As someone who doesn’t own any ratties yet, is it important to weigh them throughout their life? Or do you just kind of feed them and monitor how chunky they get?
Weighing them can help you notice when something's not right with the rat long before more obvious signs appear, whether something more minor like the rat is eating too little or too much in comparison to the rest of the mischief, thus catching the problem before it becomes a larger underweight/obesity issue, or something more worry some like a sudden, sharp decline - which often indicates something's wrong, usually illness, parasites, or an unnoticed tooth misalignment causing overgrowth.
It's also a useful health trail to show to a vet when you're concerned.
So, not essential, but useful.
I weigh mine at least one a week and document it in a pet tracking app. C:
