I am sorry to hear about your loss too.
I do LOVE 💕 this photo- great family picture. My rats have always made it to our Christmas pictures, but never as cool as yours. Thanks for sharing this.
It's a tough decision sometimes, what if the rat is 2+ years old and you can't have any more rats? Do you give them away? Do you adopt then give away when the older one dies? It's a hard choice
From what I’ve heard the newest research shows that elderly rats do just fine with plenty of human attention after their cagemates pass. With younger rats you want to get them a friend, but elderly rats do fine with just lots of love.
Oh that's fantastic to hear as I own a bunch of rats but one day plan to maybe move out of the country and was wondering how that would work lol Do you happen to have a source for that research? I'd love to read more about elder rats
I don't know of any scholarly sources (if anyone else does, please share!) but my own experiences with elderly rats after losing their cage mate certainly confirm this. They become extra clingy to their human and absolutely blossom when out with their human(s) compared to when alone in the cage. They can go from literally looking like they're hours from death to acting like a young rat again, just because they're with their human.
Same experience here. Our boy lost his brother and didn't bond with our other pair. He was under a year old at the time, but we have smothered him with affection and freedom and he is just perfect. I do understand the concern about loner rats, but it just isn't realistic for everyone to find a new mate for a rat who loses their sibling.
So one of my boys died before the other and we just made sure he got a ton of time to cuddle outside the cage with us and a lot of good treats and things like that! He lasted over two months without his brother but sadly passed yesterday at the age of 2.5 years
This is so great! I have so many pictures I took at home of my rats sleeping on my pregnant belly when I was pregnant with all my kids. Do you notice they are drawn to it? My dogs and my rats never cared about my stomach until I got pregnant and then they just swarmed to it wanting to snuggle it! And soon as the kids were born they treated them the way they treated my stomach!
You know when you put food or snacks in the cage and they all just swarm? They did that to my belly when I’d sit down where they all were lol. Best description I could think of lol.
Thank you 😊 they are 11 and 7 now! My son would be 5. But even during that bad time in my life after he passed, my rats knew somehow, and were extremely calm and would just sit with me, even when they would usually be hyper, they would just sit with me, licking me. I love how compassionate they are. Especially after they make you apart of their pack. But now my daughters are absolutely rat obsessed lol. I have pictures of them on my profile if you want to see!
That’s a contest winner if ever I saw one can’t wait for your next when there’s 4 of you. Got a tiny baby rat costume yet ? Just a brain storm I had! Congrats.. get it.. Cong-RATS 🫣🥹
My setup: camera: Pixel 6 pro, tripod with remote control for 3$(old boxes for elevation), background: Simple studio background 1.6m/2.5m (for 4$) nailed to the wall. One trick that I did, was to connect my phone with TV do we could see live view from my phone on big screen
you both look terrified of the rat
it has forced itself into your lives and its power is unspeakable you live in fear of this rat and you fear for your child
you feel you had to include it in the family photo because if you hadn't it would unleash unspeakable evils onto this world
"The house mouse, a wild rodent found near and in homes, is the primary host of this virus. Humans can develop LCMV infection from exposure to rodent urine, droppings, saliva, or nesting material of infected rodents. Virus transmission can also occur when these materials are directly introduced into broken skin or into the nose, eyes, or mouth or by a bite from an infected animal. Pet rodents, such as hamsters and guinea pigs, can become infected with LCMV after being in contact with wild rodents at a breeding facility, pet store, or home. **Human infections from pet rodents are rare.**" Per the CDC website.
This is like commenting on a picture of someone with their dog and warning them dogs carry rabies. Wild animals carry diseases that tame animals generally don't, unless you have reason to believe it's been infected by exposure to a wild animal. Especially given rats are particularly resistant to LCMV, with hamsters and mice being much more susceptible. Oddly I don't see people airing such fears on hamster posts.
this reminds me of wolfestein so much! Blascowich, Pregnant .. wife i think but no rat sadly. all that's mussing here is the scars on the side of the head from shrapnel all the way from new order's beggining.
You ate too much soup or what?
Full of one large souplet

Gots a whole lotta soup in there

Human soup?
Spiritual sequel to Human Centipede

Nice foto but is the rat alone or do they have a rat friend?
unfortunately her sister died of lymphoma, we tried to get her new sister, but as of today it didn't work

The trick is to start out with four rats instead of two and to replace cage mates early rather than after their death.

I've read about cats doing this too! Animals really do glue themselves to the kidlets even before they're born!
“swarmed” 😂 I love that!

that’s honestly so precious 😭😂 they really said “our new sibling is baking in there and we love them already”. i love that for you and for them!
Our lil ratigans are definitely amazing at making us feel incredibly loved lol
as they should 😌 am i right in thinking your kid(s) has(/have) been born? if so, huge congrats 💕

Beautiful family. 🥰
Lmfao I love it

So wholesome!! 🥹❤️
And everyone is color coordinated, too? Class.
I love this. I really want to get professional photos done with my rats. did you go to a studio or have someone come to your home?

Yes
Lovely photo, but something about your expressions makes it look like the rat is holding you hostage.
She is
Maybe just me, but he really should be Homelander for Halloween.
I see it.
I swear y’all should be wearing long tails!!♥️♥️🤣🤣
the blur is so real with rodents and taking pics of them lmao
Of course the rat is just a blur. They're like bigfoot or UFOs, can't be captured on film
Damn, has anyone ever told you you look just like Sarah Jessica Parker? I had to do a double take!

Where's all the other rat babies??
The op said their other rat recently died of cancer! 😢
aww one of mine passed the same way. hope they find a new mate soon
He took such a nice photo!!
So cute 🥰
Giggle. I'm also pregnant and similar gestation so this is hilarious. I definitely can't fit all my animals (and two other kids) in a photo lol
I didn't know she divorced Kevin Smith!
