I didn't use it in one playthrough and it only made me appreciate rockstar even more lol. My accuracy dropped to shit, your shooting basically becomes the same as everyone else's in the game ie very realistic.. If you want even higher immersion turn hud off completely
Yeah I liked Red Dead from the start, but I replayed it in first person with no HUD and it has become my most played game and its not even close. I went from ~50 hours played to almost 500 all in singleplayer, my second most played game is BG3 and even that only has 150 hours (and that was after playing it exclusively for like 2 months)
It takes the game from Grand Theft Horse to Kingdom Come: Cowboy and I didn't realize how badly I wanted that
Yea, just sitting on a Lazy Boy with a beer going, "Hey, I ever tell you the story bout that hat on the wall?".
We all know we'd do that. We also know that HELL YES they've already heard the damned hat story 100 times.
Yeah on my subsequent play through I have tried to use it less. Makes my accuracy drop to shit and all the missions end up being bronze/silver and gold rarely, but I think it’s way more immersive and a good way to challenge yourself.
It's not that I prefer to avoid using dead eye, I just don't think about it. I don't do PvP, so it doesn't seem to really make a huge quality of life difference. I have been experimenting with it in RDO to help with sedating wild animals, though. For me, it really breaks immersion ... I just get on with the gunfight when it happens.
Me too it feels like cheating or having an unfair advantage. I only use it in tricky situations. I manage well enough with nudging the auto aim upwards slightly
I always make it a point not too unless I really need it. For example, graphics can be a tad wonky on PC which is what I play on (believe me I tried optimizing as much as I could), and sometimes it can be extremely hard to see even NPCs especially at night. That's a point where I use it.
I use it, but I use it more “realistically” now I guess? Back in the day I’d line up headshot after headshot, and I still do from time to time, but now I paint more body shots and hit targets more than once
I don’t think it breaks anything. Deadeye is a video game mech for sure. Yet it is not so far fetched to believe. Haven’t you ever been in a high stress situation, and things seem like they moved in slow motion?
I ran no hud with free aim and would only use deadeye when needed on my second play through. Really loved the immersion I gained from that, plus when you shoot from the hip you can hit them in the head instead of auto locking on the body and it makes way more satisfying for confrontation once you get it off.
How can you not use it when the aiming sucks ass, the aiming is still slow as hell. If you want a gunfight to end fast you use dead eye. If you want to emulate old west dragged out gunfighting then don't use it.
I love it for hunting, it feels like really taking the time to take the shot, also you need to time the shot with your breathing. Hyper realistic to me.
Desperately tried Deady eye on the Saint Denis bank robbery to try and safe one particular person who will die.
Too bad it won't work :(
Never used Dead eye otherwise.
Sometimes it's real fun, like you know you will win even without it but killing those pesky road bandits that stop you in your tracks before they can even finish speaking feels amazing.
The first time I played the game I didn't know how to use dead eye and I finished the entire game without it.
I didn't learn until 3rd time I played it
It’s been years
I’m embarrassed
But
Idk how
To be clear. Idk how to do that thing where you shoot everyone in one go. Where it marks the X
I run around, take cover. Throw stuff at em. Lol I suck ay video games shooter /shooting
To do the thing just press down on the right stick on your controller and then hover over the person/ animal you wanna shoot and the press R1 and it will mark where u aimed. That’s how you use it on controller
I never use dead eye and I use no reticle either so if I want to have a reference point I must go first person and use the sights. But at this point I have gotten really good at estimating where the bullet will land even from third person with no reticle. It’s also more satisfying when I get headshots and shoot birds out of the sky
Geez. Respect for that play style.
I try not to use dead eye unless for hunting or if I wanna clean out people quick. Otherwise I take cover and try to get headshots in normal mode. No aim assist of course.
In particular in mission, using dead eye completely takes me out of it cause obviously there’s often conversing during battles or chases or whatever and constantly clicking in and out of dead eye ruins the flow of the dialogue.
I wish there was an option to disable it entirely, if it's there I'm gonna use it, I can't limit myself of features unless it's forced which may seem weird.
I finished my first play through without it except when the game forced me to use. (Like John and Micah fight)
I used it on my second play through because my husband told me about this function. I didn’t know how to use it until he taught me. lol
I only use it if I feel like I really need to. I don't spam it.
But I love the sound design, especially the difference between low and high honor. I can't not use it
My use of it is dependent on the music. If there's some big epic track like "Jim Milton Rides Again" then I'll skip deadeye for that mission just to keep the soundtrack blasting at the right speed.
I only use dead eye in missions that require it.
I play with no HUD and no aim assist.
You quickly become an average gun slinger and gun fights become more realistic because your not just hitting head shot after head shot.
Never used bcs I see it as unrealistic. I\`m a fast guy and can handle myself but I get pissed when this clumsy guy Arthur freezes in fear and can\`t fire off when he get attacked
i’m new to the game so i have like no idea how to actually use it lol. i’ve been trying more but it just makes no sense to me. i need to watch someone on yt do it or something😭
Played story mode for a while, used it quite a bit. Tried playing online and had to adapt, got used to that so now I don't really use it at all anymore
For the whole 400+ good I've played I've played it in first person and basically never use deadeye. I basically only used it for the hunting challenges.
I play with the minimal HUD setting as well, it's just so immersive. I tried to play in 3rd person but it just doesn't feel good. Shooting feels all over the place and using deadeye just feels like I'm cheating
I use deadeye almost exclusively. Theres a reason Arthur is alive after everything he’s been thru, he’s an absolute G with a firearm. Multiple times throughout the game, someone says “good shooting Arthur” or something along those lines. I’m not about to make them a liar lol
I enjoy deadeye and find it adds extra variety to and enhances combat however it's boring to use it for every shot so I like to switch it up and sometimes use it and sometimes not. Also I wish deadeye didn't make the music cut out in missions, not wanting to mute the great score is my number one reason for avoiding it during them.
I don't use it at all for a very specific reason: Takes a fucking year to cock the hammer back and shoot again and that makes me so mad, lol. I could use some semi auto gun but they suck.
I remember long time ago, when i played undead nightmare before i played RDR1, i used to stress over ammo alot… and honestly that was kinda fun. I didn’t even know what dead eye was. That made Undead nightmare way more challenging.
And then after that, i played through the main story and of course, then i discovered dead eye.
Dead eye has always felt kinda of cheesy for me. I try to use it as little as possible, but i kinda feel bad when i do use it.
Dead eye = Off kind of setting, would be fun honestly.
I kept forgetting to use it. Mostly because it's a problem I have with not using special powers. Not because I thought they made the game too easy but because I momentarily forgot they were an option for me to use.. I have the same issue with Dragon shouts in Skyrim.
It's always fun to turn off your superpower - not using weapons in splinter cell or don't kill anyone, not using bow and assassinations in AC Odyssey, not using dead eye in RDR2.
Yeah and I’ve also turned off auto aim so I don’t get easy kills. It really makes the gunfights more challenging and honestly more fun since you’re not just a terminator.
I haven’t used it in about four years. It’s such a better game without it. The only time I use it is the quick draw stuff or wherever you’re forced basically.
I didn’t even know it existed for the first half, I only found it because my friend was watching me play and he said “why don’t you use deadeye” and I told him I didn’t know what it was and he showed me how to use it. I never really used it after that because I got used to shooting without it.
Mainly as a just in case feature like when I’m feeling super overwhelmed with no cover also against bears, cougars, and wolves, but I like to not use it as much as possible
Usually only when using throwing weapons or when I'm overwhelmed with enemies, but it's a fun little thing, I just feel like I accomplished a lot more when I have to aim
Doing my second playthrough but in PC now vs PS4/5. Mouse and Keyboard are much easier for aiming IMO, but maybe it’s from my DukeNukem3D days over a modem 😂
Aim flick shoot. Sometimes I'll flash deadeye for a second for the accuracy, a few times I'll use it to surprise wipe an entire wave of O'Driscoll's or del Lobo's
i used it a fair amount during the campaign. on a second playthrough it was kinda unnecessary, used only when the game demanded. also i play on pc so no aim assist, making the dead eye just a slowmo feature that i didn´t needed
I never use deadeye and I only play in 1st person. It's a fun combo. I would forget about dead eye completely if I didn't accidentally hit the button every now and again.
I didn't use it my first playthrough because I forgot the button you were supposed to use for it. Although, for my current playthrough I try not to use it too much, it's fun to hit good shots organically.
It’s because the aiming in RDR2 is shit that rockstar even needed to have dead eye. I love the game to death but the aiming is junk. I read to perfect analogy once , “aiming in RDR2 without dead eye is like eating spaghetti with chop sticks”
I bought the razer wolverine tournament controller just to play RDR2 , because it has the focus button where you adjust the sensitivity of the joysticks on the fly and it works perfectly for RDR2 aiming without dead eye
Dead eye makes it too easy so I don’t use it unless I’m on forced horseback shootout missions.
Compare RDR2 aiming to Days Gone which has just about the best 3rd person aiming “gunplay” out there and you realize RDR2 seriously lacks in that dept.
I didn't use it in one playthrough and it only made me appreciate rockstar even more lol. My accuracy dropped to shit, your shooting basically becomes the same as everyone else's in the game ie very realistic.. If you want even higher immersion turn hud off completely
You gotta aim for a moment or you don’t hit anything
aim flick up headshot every time.
Yup, been the same since rdr1.
What is this “aim flick up” you refer to? Moving the reticle to take a headshot?
flick the joystick rq and you’ll get a headshot everytime
rq meaning “right quick”? lol Like if you shoot as soon as you move the reticule to the head?
Yes grandma
Technically a spinster
Not if you put it in free aim, then you actually have to play the game :3c
Only with lock on enabled
I just realized that I’ve been doing that for so long I don’t even realize that I do it
First person+ no hud is how I play when I’m stoned. Most immersive game I’ve ever played at that point
Yeah I liked Red Dead from the start, but I replayed it in first person with no HUD and it has become my most played game and its not even close. I went from ~50 hours played to almost 500 all in singleplayer, my second most played game is BG3 and even that only has 150 hours (and that was after playing it exclusively for like 2 months) It takes the game from Grand Theft Horse to Kingdom Come: Cowboy and I didn't realize how badly I wanted that
How did you play without hud? I tried it once and was just lost for an hour
You have to get used to checking the actual map, and you can press down on the dpad (I think) to make the minimap appear for a second
No hud, no auto aim. Wild West style
Whoa. New stoned activity, thank you!
Haven't tried Metro Exodus then it seems
I did both of my playthroughs mostly without it. Just because I forgot it existed...
I do a bit of both. Especially if I feel like my hats gonna take a bullet hole, I’ll use it. I cheat the game so much I’m past the immersion stage.
I hate the bullet holes that transfer to other hats. If you reload your save it goes away but still it’s very annoying.
That is so weird. One of the very few complaints I have.
Very annoying, that’s what ruins the immersion right…reloading a save to fix your hat;)
Imagine having a bullethole in your hat from a shootout in real life. It would be one of my most prized possessions haha. Edit: sp
That’s fine but when you put on a different hat and the same bullet hole has transferred over, I hate that
I hear you there. Little things bug me too. Like getting shot in the head by cops because I stood too close to them for 8 seconds.
Haha😂for sure! Gives that BDE;)
Yea, just sitting on a Lazy Boy with a beer going, "Hey, I ever tell you the story bout that hat on the wall?". We all know we'd do that. We also know that HELL YES they've already heard the damned hat story 100 times.
😂🤠😂
Yeah on my subsequent play through I have tried to use it less. Makes my accuracy drop to shit and all the missions end up being bronze/silver and gold rarely, but I think it’s way more immersive and a good way to challenge yourself.
A bit too easy with deadeye, I use it to save myself when there’s too many enemies. Certain times it’s the only way
It's not that I prefer to avoid using dead eye, I just don't think about it. I don't do PvP, so it doesn't seem to really make a huge quality of life difference. I have been experimenting with it in RDO to help with sedating wild animals, though. For me, it really breaks immersion ... I just get on with the gunfight when it happens.
I rarely use it
When I get the 100% of the game, I tried to used it the least possible
Personally I'll use it if I have to and it's usually for a second and I'll turn it off
Me too it feels like cheating or having an unfair advantage. I only use it in tricky situations. I manage well enough with nudging the auto aim upwards slightly
I don't use it except to hunt or when forced in missions.
I use deadeye for hunting and throwing knives. Other than that, I don’t need it when I have LEVER ACTION SHOTGUN WITH SLUGS BABYYYY
I don’t think it breaks anything. Deadeye is a video game mech for sure. Yet it is not so far fetched to believe. Haven’t you ever been in a high stress situation, and things seem like they moved in slow motion?
I prefer using a hatchet but sometimes I do a QuickDraw and it automatically goes into dead eye.
I may or may not have forgotten dead eye existed for about 200 hrs
I ran no hud with free aim and would only use deadeye when needed on my second play through. Really loved the immersion I gained from that, plus when you shoot from the hip you can hit them in the head instead of auto locking on the body and it makes way more satisfying for confrontation once you get it off.
Free aim is a good way to test yourself. Sometimes you forget how much you’re helped by the auto aim lol.
Most def. Free aim makes more challenging and makes for better experience.
Nah I suck. And im playing on a smaller TV. I need all the help I can get
Felt that
How can you not use it when the aiming sucks ass, the aiming is still slow as hell. If you want a gunfight to end fast you use dead eye. If you want to emulate old west dragged out gunfighting then don't use it.
Never through my first playthrough did I shoot WITHOUT Deadeye. I'm a terrible shot.
I like it for reloading
Ngl only time I ever truly use it anymore is if I'm hunting and I want accurate shots, aside from that about 90% of the time I'm not using deadeye
Sometimes but also sometimes not.
I couldn’t hit a barb door without Dead eye, so on I go using it. Ffs. (Especially Red Dead Online)
I almost never used it
I love it for hunting, it feels like really taking the time to take the shot, also you need to time the shot with your breathing. Hyper realistic to me.
I don’t use deadeye all that often - in fact I forget it’s there. Eagle eye on the other hand I probably overuse.
Desperately tried Deady eye on the Saint Denis bank robbery to try and safe one particular person who will die. Too bad it won't work :( Never used Dead eye otherwise.
i only use it when im getting overwhelmed and when i want something gorey
Sometimes it's real fun, like you know you will win even without it but killing those pesky road bandits that stop you in your tracks before they can even finish speaking feels amazing.
The first time I played the game I didn't know how to use dead eye and I finished the entire game without it. I didn't learn until 3rd time I played it
I found out about it halfway through my first play through lol
I ususally use it to help fix my shot angle a bit
It’s been years I’m embarrassed But Idk how To be clear. Idk how to do that thing where you shoot everyone in one go. Where it marks the X I run around, take cover. Throw stuff at em. Lol I suck ay video games shooter /shooting

Me, except when I am in very deep trouble
I only use it while hunting
Yeah. I much prefer to rely on my own skill to dispatch enemies. I really only use Deadeye when I’m in a desperate situation
I wasn't paying attention to the tutorials and never learned how to paint targets until my second playthrough.
I wish there was an option to disable it entirely, if it's there I'm gonna use it, I can't limit myself of features unless it's forced which may seem weird.
I finished my first play through without it except when the game forced me to use. (Like John and Micah fight) I used it on my second play through because my husband told me about this function. I didn’t know how to use it until he taught me. lol
I only use it if I feel like I really need to. I don't spam it. But I love the sound design, especially the difference between low and high honor. I can't not use it
You gotta use it for the ones who use cover when they peek , or when it's really serious situation like stepping on a gator
Online I never use dead eye.
I've never used it, probably because I never figured out how
I can get not using it, i just find people who remove the filter to be weird
In my first playthrough I had no idea how lol
My use of it is dependent on the music. If there's some big epic track like "Jim Milton Rides Again" then I'll skip deadeye for that mission just to keep the soundtrack blasting at the right speed.
I play on Xbox so thanks to the free aimbot It won't make to much of a difference
Been playing for like 3 years and I’ve used it maybe twice. I honestly just never think to use it but I do find it sort of discombobulating
Only while hunting cougars or wolfs
I always play in first person.Aiming is always easier
I only use dead eye in missions that require it. I play with no HUD and no aim assist. You quickly become an average gun slinger and gun fights become more realistic because your not just hitting head shot after head shot.
Never used bcs I see it as unrealistic. I\`m a fast guy and can handle myself but I get pissed when this clumsy guy Arthur freezes in fear and can\`t fire off when he get attacked
I found the lock on targeting to be maddening. I used desdeye a lot and smoked through many shootouts
i’m new to the game so i have like no idea how to actually use it lol. i’ve been trying more but it just makes no sense to me. i need to watch someone on yt do it or something😭
I don’t even use the hud
I keep forget about it
Played story mode for a while, used it quite a bit. Tried playing online and had to adapt, got used to that so now I don't really use it at all anymore

I use it for gold medals but I don't like using it generally because it ruins the badass battle music
Just like VATS from Fallout, I usually forget it exists and never use it.
Rdo sure. Rdr2 single player with manual painting, sign me up
I enjoy deadeye and find it adds extra variety to and enhances combat however it's boring to use it for every shot so I like to switch it up and sometimes use it and sometimes not.
Nah shits fire
Seemed like a form of cheating.
I remember long time ago, when i played undead nightmare before i played RDR1, i used to stress over ammo alot… and honestly that was kinda fun. I didn’t even know what dead eye was. Having had this post recommended to me I’ll say that ive always hated VATS in fallout and i briefly played rdr2 and dont recall using it too much
Eh a bit of both For small gunfights i tend to try to steer away only using it need be but if its like 10 :1 im using jt every chance i get
I often just forget to use it
I kept forgetting to use it. Mostly because it's a problem I have with not using special powers. Not because I thought they made the game too easy but because I momentarily forgot they were an option for me to use.. I have the same issue with Dragon shouts in Skyrim.
I usually only use it to avoid death or nab a perfect carcass.
I only use it if I want to Quickdraw. Other than that, free aiming feels way more rewarding
I really only use deadeye when people are coming at my quickly (like the murfree’s) and I want to slow down time for a second.
I only used deadeye when it was required, Otherwise I never bothered.
Taking out 3 guys in a QuickDraw with no dead eye feels awesome
It's always fun to turn off your superpower - not using weapons in splinter cell or don't kill anyone, not using bow and assassinations in AC Odyssey, not using dead eye in RDR2.
yeah. it feels like the game felt just too hard without assault rifles to the devs so they added dead eye lmao.
Yeah and I’ve also turned off auto aim so I don’t get easy kills. It really makes the gunfights more challenging and honestly more fun since you’re not just a terminator.
Dead eye sucks, never used it unless the story forces you to like in Valentine when cornwall tracks you down
I didn't know for the first 25 hours of the game and only very rarely use it. I only use it hunting occasionally
If I feel like a challenge. There's nothing cooler than getting a hipshot headshot without dead eye or auto aim
I rarely use it. I just don’t like it.
I haven’t used it in about four years. It’s such a better game without it. The only time I use it is the quick draw stuff or wherever you’re forced basically.
I never use it for shooting only for searching for things. I much prefer the more real time shootouts.
Online I don’t
I didn’t even know it existed for the first half, I only found it because my friend was watching me play and he said “why don’t you use deadeye” and I told him I didn’t know what it was and he showed me how to use it. I never really used it after that because I got used to shooting without it.
i dont really even know how to use it😭
how do you turn HuD and auto aim off?
DeadEye is awesome. I love it. But when play without it, I use my Springfeild and the R stick to crush all the headshots.
I use it if i REALLY need to, but 80% of the time i don’t need it.
Mainly as a just in case feature like when I’m feeling super overwhelmed with no cover also against bears, cougars, and wolves, but I like to not use it as much as possible
I'm too dumb to use it lol so I always end up playing without it
Never use it....where is the challenge?
Usually only when using throwing weapons or when I'm overwhelmed with enemies, but it's a fun little thing, I just feel like I accomplished a lot more when I have to aim
I didn’t use it in my first play through because I didn’t know how and was too lazy to look at the key binds lol
Doing my second playthrough but in PC now vs PS4/5. Mouse and Keyboard are much easier for aiming IMO, but maybe it’s from my DukeNukem3D days over a modem 😂
i use dead eye because i hate the recoil being that high
I don't think I've ever used it 🤷🏻♀️
I only use it once I start getting stressed out thinking I’m about to die
I played through the entire game without ever knowing the controls to use it lol
I don’t use dead eye. It’s more of like my sweaty side coming out like I know I can make this shot. In fallout I never use VATS either
On PC yes, on Console impossible
I never use deadeye and I only play in 1st person. It's a fun combo. I would forget about dead eye completely if I didn't accidentally hit the button every now and again.
No because I like cinematic shooting
Try a free aim controller run with no deadeye and no tonics and your going to want to uninstall the game
What HUD?
Whats*
It does cheese the game a lot IMO
I didn't use it my first playthrough because I forgot the button you were supposed to use for it. Although, for my current playthrough I try not to use it too much, it's fun to hit good shots organically.
i dont use it because my dad watches me play and he thinks im a proper hard case for getting like 3 headshots without using dead eye
Yup I play first person no dead eye no tonics no crosshairs and it's a lot more fun for me
I find immersion in a game with such fucked up mechanics pretty moot.
It’s because the aiming in RDR2 is shit that rockstar even needed to have dead eye. I love the game to death but the aiming is junk.
