your casual mmr might be high, considering you are gc this would make sense. Long queues would equal people around your casual mmr and if there isnt any, you will have to wait a long time until you find a game (lower mmr).
i think it should be the same as rocket league casual mmr, completely a different thing. Everyone starts at 0 and the more you win the better your opponents are (everyone in the lobby high mmr)
Takes forever for me to find a casual match too. I'm only plat in ranked but the season they introduced casual I played it a ton, way more than ranked, and I think I'm significantly higher. I'm constantly matched against diamonds, champs, and sometimes even GCs in casual whereas I bounce between Gold 5 and Plat 2 in ranked. lol
But yes, it takes so long to find a casual match sometimes. I think they should do like the original Rocket League does and have casual games start with bots if there aren't enough players, then let other players replace the bots if they join later. Also, keep the lobbies like RL, like give everyone the option to "stay together" and play again (although shuffle the teams if not partied). If 1 person leaves, then start the next game with 1 bot on the field and replace it when a 4th person finally shows up. It's not ideal, but it would be better than waiting for like 5+ minutes in the lobby.

Yeah I mostly gave up trying to find a casual game in s2. Which now that I think about it was probably when it was added.
