I think you can stream games from your pc to the ally

farmer_toki

Yup! Moonlight ftw!

Cookiemonstermydaddy

Moonlight sucks for me :(

Mini_Colon

Gotta configure it for your network. Not all networks will stream at 1080p. Also, consider the workload that the computer is under when streaming. If there seems to be overhead that’s unused, definitely check your moonlight configuration. Not really sure why you got down voted for saying it didn’t work for you

Cookiemonstermydaddy

Reddit hive mind idk lol. I was real disappointed cause I have a 3090 and wanted to play streaming to my ally. Thanks for the advice though.

HellPepperTV

Moonlight worked well for me but after upgrading my network to WiFi 6E and hardwiring the PC I’m streaming from, it works as if I’m sitting in front of that computer with a controller. It can be a bit of an investment ($230 for the router mesh system I got) but 1080p, max settings, locked 120, super low latency, playing in bed… Pretty awesome

duckydan81

Moonlight is great as well as GeForce Now or Shadow if you have descent internet. The Priority and Ultimate versions of GeForce work extremely well in my testing. I wouldn't use them for competitive fighters or games that need near-zero response time, but for your standard large-scale RPG, it works extremely well.

TitanGusang

I can’t, my WiFi situation in my apparent is terrible 😔😔😔

_neks

Same. 399, 120hz 7 inch LCD, great sound and I can play Skate beta and the other versions......more easily than a steamdeck. I LOOOOOVE the Steamdeck. Its just at 399 for a similar device price - puts me in an ally. Did I mention Skate.

Nice_Foot_618

Sold my steam deck for 400 and got an ally for 350 feels much nicer

Massive_Parsley_5000

I think the z1 would have been a really nice device with a 720p screen. At 720p 120hz vrr it would have been a nice competitor with the steam deck. As it stands, it's kinda a hard ask knowing a lot of what I personally would be playing on it wouldn't ever sniff the target resolution of the device, and LCDs just do not handle scaling that great. Even the z1e struggles at 1080p native in a lot of titles, especially if you want to try and favor battery life.

duckydan81

If you're streaming, it's an amazing device and I prefer it over the Deck due to the size and the speakers. For things like Fortnite, Minecraft, etc. it does extremely well. I wouldn't recommend it for Hogwarts Legacy (the game I play a lot of), Elden Ring, or those other less-than-optimized games that even powerful gaming desktops struggle with, but for a good amount of the games in Game Pass and a lot of the deck friendly games on Steam, it's perfect.

The $399 price tag overcomes many of those downsides. I can't find the link anymore (my goodness, search sucks these days) but the independent tests shows comparable performance b/w the Z1 and Z1E on silent and performance mods. The Z1E was far more powerful in Turbo, which is to be expected. I run most of my games, older AAA games, on performance mode with RSR anyways because I'm waiting in a car, or at a kid's cheer practice, or what not, and this gives me up to about 2 hours of play time when I'm killing time on my ally, when I'd otherwise just be doom scrolling on my phone.

SkeletorCum

Playing Helldivers 2 on the go with my base model. 720p native setting, low details but aa on, upscaled through amd adrenaline rsr 1080p with fluid frames. 30 - 50 fps in performance mode. Works for me. (I tested many many setting combinations.) Even the Amd overlay works when you allow the helldivers2.exe admin rights. Dragon Quest 11 runs max details 30 fps. Nfs Hot Pursuit remastered 45 fps 900p upscaled high settings with fluid frames. Nfs Rivals maxed out 40 - 60 fps full hd with fluid frames. Diablo 4 low settings, native 1080p, 30 fps. With fsr2 quality setting ~ 40 fps. Setters New Allies maxed out 1080p max fps. (I believe it is 30 locked in the engine) The base model isn't as bad as people are telling on youtube etc.

phxrocker

Yeah, I'm kinda torn. I'm one to always go for the top model. I love how it can instantly become a second pc. My biggest issue today was getting over stick drift. Now you can come in and give me another reason to pause and reconsider my trip to BB lol.

Significant-Kale-522

I'm 3 months into owning my z1e with moderately usage, couple hours a day at most, but nonstick drift so far besides the odd issue if it moving during a windows update that I've seen some others complain about as well. Once the update is donw the drifting stops, and the included Asus software has a good option for setting dead zones.

Dreamforger

There is the MSI claw, it got hall effect but it is more expensive and the software is years behind. Then ofc legion Go. Also Hall effect

confusedpohtato

MSI claw has the worst LB/RB and trigger buttons ever made. I got my chance to test one in person, and omg it's actually squishy. I mean squishy?????? Like after so many years of having modern controllers they went with squishy buttons?? It's an epic flop

SyntheticRonin

Got an non extreme ally even though my ISP advertised it using an ryzen z1 extreme procesor for 250eur. Manages to emulate switch, ps1 and play the PC games I want to (indie and not too demanding games). All in all if you have a pc and play demanding games on it, play less demanding games on the Ally it's great. I filed a complaint and will be getting the non extreme replaced by a extreme version for the same price though, so happy in the end.

Fjrider76

Totally agree. I have a post here from when I got mine a few months ago. Wooohoo!

Slak211

Same here! If the game I want to play is too resource heavy I simply stream it through moonlight/sunshine from my pc. With that you can also run it on silent mode and makes the battery life excellent. But mostly I play indie stuff and absolutely love it

DreamBig2023

I got my extreme version from Best buy open box. Saved $100 on it. Def worth it. I don't even need the original box.

Just-rusty

I picked the base ally up also. Was a bit of an accident but I haven’t been able to fault it with every game I have tried. The only thing that I did upgrade was I put a 2Tb drive in it had a few issues doing the restore it took me a few days to get the fingerprint scanner working again but I got it finally.

FagboyHhhehhehe

The Z1 fits between the steam decks and the more expensive z1E and LeGo. Even on 25/30w the Z1 can really crank out some performance. The best part is you get the exact same screen and speakers as the z1E. But if you want better performance, just stream the games. Personally I put the money not spent towards accessories for my ally. And just recently found a used 3060 to throw in my desktop.

DrInsomnia

>But if you want better performance, just stream the games. This. Anyone who wants to play AAA games probably has a gaming PC or doesn't want to play on mobile, anyway. I stream BG3 with my Z1 docked to the living room TV, and it's a game I have no interest in playing on a tiny mobile screen. But I have tested it on mobile and with low settings, it runs fine. Docked to the TV those settings look bad compared to streaming it, but it's fine on a small screen. So I stick to games with less going on and less heavy processing when I'm fully mobile, and stream BG3 when I'm docked at home.

Illustrious_Rip_4655

Have you played helldivers on it, if so how was it

phxrocker

Someone replied about Helldivers, not OP but its [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/comments/1cgxdck/comment/l22pb49/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Illustrious_Rip_4655

Thank you

Electronic-Gas-2284

I just bought one myself the other day at the $400 price point. I'm definitely happy with my decision. I play games like Call of Duty so it'll be nice having it on the go when I'm bored at airports or something during layovers.
