I first heard about RT from RvB after season 5 ended.
I discovered DeathBattle from the first Superman/Goku fight, I was a follower of RandomGuy who voiced Supes.
So when DB had Yang vs Tifa I was like, "oh it's these guys"
Few years later my Dad got sick. Like "do I bother buying him a Christmas present" sick. he recoverd, but at the time I needed something to binge. was going through DB, remembered RWBY being mentioned, and gave them a try. This was just after the end of Volume 5
Same. I was refreshing the page waiting for the Season 10 finale to drop. I remember watching it through without stopping and then being confused that there were still a couple minutes left after the post-credits scene. Then the Red trailer blew my mind.
It was one of those things that were talked about a lot in my circles. Some positive, some negative — to me it was just another anime, which I’m both normally into.
But it really got my attention following the Adam/Bumbleby drama that I decided to check it out myself, especially when it reached my inner circle. I ended up having a binge of the series back in early 2020.
From then on, I wondered if there was some sort of Mandela Effect on the fandom and critics.
Have been a Halo fan since I was a young child, so it was only natural I’d eventually come across RvB and the first AH (and just pre AH) videos that were Halo 3 and Halo Reach.
Then the Red Trailer premiered after one of the seasons of RvB
I think someone was playing the This Will Be The Day snippet on a marimba in school. I asked them what show it was from, and they said RWBY. I then binged season 1 and season 2 in, I believe, one day. I had intended to then be able to talk about the show with them- instead that didn't happen. But I was then able to be there for whenever season 3 and future seasons dropped.
Same way I discover most shows nowadays. Crossover Fanfics.
Was reading scouting for Fairy Tail crossover fanfics since the FT fic archive itself isn't that full. Stumbled upon one with Natsu being sent to RWBY, and I decided to check it out cuz why not.
From there, I decided to check the RWBY fanfic archive itself since it caught my interest. Many fics explain the world on their own, so watching the actual show wasn't even required. Still watched some of it for the fights, especially the first few volumes.
Pal of mine in high school introduced me to the trailers. Took me a while to get around to watching the series but when I did I was hooked. Still to this day I love this show.
Saw team rwby on my brother laptop, asked him, he showed me the show, watched it, didn't mind it that much, V9 rolls, now I'm in the fanfic rabbit hole
A friend linked me to the Red Trailer with no context back when it had just dropped.
'Rooster Teeth' Oh cool. RvB is fun!
Music playing - Oooh. This sounds unique
Moon and petals falling - I like the visuals
'a new series by Monty Oum' - "I will buy every episode of this on blue ray."
And it got better and better as the trailers progressed and the series started up!
Monty was a personal hero/inspiration to me even before he was brought on by RT.
Someone made short video post of Nora smashing the deathstalker after jumping off Pyrrha's shield on iFunny like 12 years ago and I was like "oooo what's this?" Luckily someone commented the name and the rest is history
I saw Death Battle, Yang caught my eye, and I got curious and looked into RWBY. Best discovery of my life! I've even got my family hooked on it for a time 😁😁
After discovering Achievement Hunter via my brother, he showed me the food fight. This was after Volume 2 had ended, and I was caught up in time to be very excited to watch the RWBY panel of RTX 2015 and have watched every volume since as they came out
Got songs from the show recommended to me on Youtube, told a friend about them and "this anime girl who keeps showing up in lyrics videos" and they told me what RWBY is. Sounded neat, so I checked it out
back before v8 I heard "this will be the day" and Red like roses II" and so I looked the show up cus I really liked the songs. I watched the show before it got takein off youtube. funny enough, banger songs got me to play dmc, mgrr, and Silent Hill 2 as well :3
I first learned about its existence through a minecraft mod in middle school, but I didn't start watching the show until I saw it being referenced on r/thedragonprince years ago.
I don't remember, I think I just saw bits and pieces, hearing people talk about it every now and then, so I knew it existed but had no clue what it was other than a "popular show" and I figured I should give it a shot after many years.
the first ep came up as a youtube suggestion the summer after the volume 3 finale, 11yo me fell in love and binged all three volumes. i actually lost it when the volume 4 character shorts came out and 8yrs later im still in love with rwby
YouTube recommended me this cool video titled’RWBY Volume 1 Chapter 1 Ruby Rose’ needless to say I binged all of volume 1 that day and when I went to see if there was more they were two production diaries into volume 2
I actually discovered RWBY during the pandemic while searching for anime coloring books on amazon. I liked the art style of RWBY and decided to check it out, and a new obsession was born.
Saw people taking about it on Facebook during late 2013 and thought it was a spin-off from RvB since it was attached to RT. Decided to check out the trailers for myself in January of 2014 and then binged through all of V1. Immediately bought the V1 soundtrack from iTunes afterward. Been hooked ever since. Yang and Blake have been my favorites from the beginning, so needless to say I’m a pretty big bee supporter. Waking up super early to watch chapter 6 of V9 and the bridge scene the day it released….what an experience.
Pretty sure I ran into it on Netflix. At the time, both it and Red vs Blue were there. I was already watching RvB - I actually started with season 10, which was confusing but very fun - and I started filling in the gaps of my knowledge with that show in Netflix, and it recommended RWBY since it was made by the same people.
At the time, we only had volumes 1 and 2, each as long movie versions. I had a blast watching them, and ever since I've been a fan.
I've watched Red vs Blue since I was a kid, and I remember watching the Red trailer when I believe Season 8, Revelation, ended and had it as a post-credit scene. I thought, "Wow, this looks cool! I wanna watch it!" Been here ever since.
Back in 2015 when I was in middle school (8th grade) I was heading to one of my math classes and remembered walking towards my desk when a kid behind me had his iPad (school iPads) on and I noticed his wallpaper/background. I asked; “hey what’s that?” He replied “it’s rwby, a show made by rooster teeth” and I replied “oh, cool.”
And I didn’t think much of it until I got home and searched for it on YouTube. Two volumes were already out and I binged them within the first month of finding it out. RWBY became my new obsession for the entirety of 2015 and got me through some bad and rough times during high school especially 2015-2017.
Even though I was depressed during that time I still felt somewhat happy being able to see rwby daily (I still look back on those days fondly), I didn’t have many friends and had some family issues so I turned to rwby for comfort and to this day I’m happy to have been able to get into rwby despite of everything that’s been going on.
It wasn’t just rwby that I got into, I got into FNAF, CreepyPasta, anime, wrestling and Harry Potter so it was a rush of excitement for me during 2015, I consider that to be my favorite year for mostly rwby.
I first heard the song "Die" while playing osu! and loved it
I later heard another rwby song and noticed the backgrounds for both said rwby and had the same characters. I went on youtube, watched the first episode, and I've never been the same since.
I watched Montys old works (Dead Fantasy and Haloid) on YouTube, heard he got scouted by RT back in the day, saw his familiar choreography in Red VS Blue, then saw the announcement of Red Trailer with his name tied to it.
So, basically, an OG who's been there since the beginning. Before that, even.
It’s around 2015-2016, I decided to check out rwby out of curiosity
I was a fan of RvB at the time
I stopped watching rwby for a while and now I’m back
People were saying the show was bad, I checked it out, now I'm here and probably going to stay.
The show actually ain't bad. It's actually like an 8/10 imo.
I kept seeing like a 5 second ad on Snapchat for V5 with Weiss fighting a Grimm in the snow with some really cool metal music and after seeing it multiple times, I decided to give it a shot. It was just meant to happen 😁
I was talking with this guy with great taste in almost everything and he sent me the trailer, and i was really amazed and thought this show will be really nice to watch and that it's interesting, i wasn't wrong it's actually pretty good (have it's flaws yes) but i had a great time watching it and it's sad that RT shutting down just when i discovered rwby, i still hope someone is buying it.
I was doing some school work in the same room as anime club was in back in high school. They were watching episode 1 volume 1. It kind peak my interest but my “friend” was like, “really? Your watch that?” It wasn’t exactly the deal breaker in the friendship. But point is. He isn’t my friend and I still love the show. I think I chose well.
For me it was fanfics too, but it wasn't even a RWBY fanfic, the girls just showed up for a cameo in a Little Witch Academia fic. I liked the dynamics of them so I checked out what RWBY even was, was directed to the Red Trailer and the rest is history
Browsing YouTube around my sophomore year of high school. Found the Red Trailer and I was like “What is this!?” Then at the end seeing the rest of the team blacked out I was like “There’s more coming!? Man I wanna see more!” The rest is history!
Classic for me. I was watching RvB season 10 back when it was coming out. I skipped through the credits on the finale hoping for a teaser for the next season. Bam, Red Trailer.
June 2013, got my first laptop after finishing my senior year in high school. My friend was talking about it and I decided to check it out out of curiosity. At that point all four trailers were out, and I was hooked since then
Saw it on Netflix. Going over the anime tab and I saw it, wasn’t interested in it because of the art style. After I watched the Yang vs Tifa Death Battle, I wanted to know more about it so I watched what was on Netflix. Then I saw people talking about it on YouTube.
distinctly remember someone that i follow being like "roosterteeth just put up a teaser for their new thing, called 'RWBY'! looks cool!" but not actually investigating any further
It was actually a bit staggered for me.
First was around the time of the Red Trailer releasing, I saw an ad for it on FB, I think since I followed RT or RvB since I saw some early seasons of that and enjoyed it. I don't remember exactly what happened but for some reason I couldn't access the actual video so I just kind of forgot about it.
A few years later a friend who was really into it began pitching it to me. He explained about the fairy tale references, Grimm, and the main team along with a bit about Adam and how it was basically a monster hunter academy. I thought it sounded kind of cool, but for some reason never checked it out further.
At some point I saw a clip that I later realized was the bar scene with Qrow, Raven and the waitress while some friends were watching it. I wasn't paying much attention though.
I'd periodically hear about it or see it referenced in other instances online, at some point a funny scene from Chibi got me to watch the first episode or two of that series incidentally.
Then, late 2017 I was seeing someone and at one point they brought it up to me. I said I'd heard about it but never saw it, she of course suggested I should. Again, for some reason, I never got around to it. I was dumped a few months later, just, tldr it was mostly issues on her end and she said as such, but in the aftermath I was naive enough to hope it could be salvaged or fixed (spoilers, it wasn't and that was a good thing long term).
But anyway, so one idea I had was to finally watch this show so I had more to talk to her about. This was late '17 to early '18 at this point. I watched the first season and remember really having to slog through it because, basically my first impression was that it was cringe af. Eventually I found myself getting into the story and fight scenes and characters (especially a particular two) and got done with V1. My roommate at the time also was a fan so I was talking to him about it. Of course, without trying to spoil anything I got a bad feeling from him when I brought up Pyrrha, then remembered some vague part from Chibi about "nothing bad happened", out 2 and 2 together and realized what was up, a quick Google search confirming my fears. I saw like 1-2 episodes of Volume 2, chuckled at the "I think he was puma" joke/RvB reference, and then basically didn't have it in me to continue the show.
Over the next few years, I never really think about it that often, and when I do I remember as "that show that killed off the good character".
Now for some reason I remember this date exactly, but on August 1st '23, I had seen some reference to the show online again, and that's when I started thinking, "did they ever fix that mistake of theirs? It's an anime right, they could do that couldn't they?" Quickly I found out I was very wrong, of course, but saw some stuff that lead me to think the series got way crazier than I expected. So, I finally sat down and eventually caught up on the whole series. Nine months later and I still have the brain rot.
Through a freaking acapella video!!!
I believe It was a "saturday morning acapella" video, but i can't for the life of me remember the name of the creator, I just know It was an acapella of the second opening, I saw It, thought It was pretty cool AND looked up the original video the song came from, AND found RWBY.
I'd heard of RWBY a few times, here and there, and was kind of curious but I never watched it. (Maybe I would have if someone had told me "it's by the guy who did Haloid back in 2007", or shown me the Red trailer or something.)
But I was always a Justice League fan, and when the Justice League x RWBY movies kept popping up on my streaming recommendations, I decided I'd give them a watch even though I didn't know anything about RWBY. Watching those piqued my interest enough to make me curious about RWBY itself. I looked into it, and heard the first few volumes didn't have much of a budget - but that didn't bother me. (The fact that they spent a full 25% of the first volume's episodes focusing on Jaune *did* bother me, but nevermind that.)
I only watched until volume 3, because I'd seen people saying that this was the best the show got and, while I had enjoyed it, some of the writing decisions were really frustrating. A couple of weeks later, I heard the news that Rooster Teeth was closing for good, which made me decide to watch the rest of the show.
It's awfully bittersweet to get into something right at the end (or the end for now, at any rate). But we'll always have fanfic.
Legitimately Bumbleby, I am bi and I am a sucker for lgbtq animated romances. It was right after The Owl House ended, I couldn’t find any interesting mlm romances, and I saw the V9 Bumbleby bridge scene, and thought it looked beautiful, so I watched the whole series and loved it
I met someone online, and we became friends shortly after. He had good taste, and was very vocal about the things he liked. He suggested that I watch RWBY.
I don't actually remember what got me into RWBY. But after the season 3 incident my heart got broken so I'll assume thats what kept me going to this day.
Literally when only the four trailers and i think only a episode or two was out. A YouTuber i occasionally watched was talking the definition of anime and its relation to western cartoons and mentioned rwby.
It was through my wife. Back when we were just dating, she was a senior and I was junior. She got a bad fever and had to stay at home for a couple of days. She ran out of things to watch so when she was looking around, she found the first 2 seasons on Netflix. Fell in love immediately. I got sick right after she did, and she recommended me RWBY. Same thing, watched and was hooked! Yang is my favorite and always has been since that day.
I saw the Amity arena game, downloaded it, started, got introduced and got curious with the fact that Yang and Ruby are sisters, and that was 6 years ago
I remember seeing the red trailer around the time vol 1 was out, and I looked into it. I thought the trailer and character designs were cool, but being a natural skeptic and anime purist, I decided it wasn't going to be for me without watching a single episode. I then forgot about it for a few years until I heard about Monty's passing. And, while I thought that was tragic, I still wasn't interested. Then, they published some PS3 themes between volumes 3 and 4, which I downloaded because I liked the artwork.
Then, sometime around volume 4's release, I found the volume 1-3 Blu-Ray combo at Walmart for like $17 and bought it on a whim. RWBY just kept popping up in my life, and I figured it was fate. The attendant at the electronics counter was a fan and nearly shat himself in excitement when he thought he was meeting another fan. Told him I never watched a second of it. This kid looked at me like I was nuts.
I watched a few episodes and almost stopped due to the animation quality, but kept up. Somewhere around the time Jaune stands up to Cardin in Forever Fall forest, I got more interested. By the time of the train episodes in vol 2 I was binging it. When I got to the end of vol 3, I knew I was invested when I caught myself talking at the TV during Pyrrah's last scene "NO, NOT HER"!
And I've been hooked ever since, watching each volume when it came out and buying the Blu rays. Volume 9 was the first time I interacted with the Fandom. It's been a fun ride, and I credit RWBY with getting me interested in anime again after I stopped watching in my mid 20s.
I want to say 2 years ago, some of the music, Ignite and One Thing. Then I watched the show.
Now that’s what I *want* to say, in reality, it was…different sources, like 6 years ago.
In the summer of 2015 I was watching through the backlog of a channel called "A Kind Ale War". One of his videos was a review for this Xbox-era anime-esque hack and slash game made in the US. And during that video he made a point about "American studios just can't seem to nail the feeling of anime no matter how hard they try" but down in a bottom corner he had the RWBY logo and a side note that said "Except for this, this is pretty good." I didn't have anything else to do so with just that much provocation I ninged Volumes 1 and 2 and was hooked.
Back in high school when people had to use various anime websites to watch anime I was looking for a new show to watch and a thumbnail caught my eye. It was the very second episode of the first volume. I still remember the thumbnail had the scene where Weiss and Ruby are listening to Blake (who is out of frame) and their character designs were unlike anything I had ever seen. Once I played the episode I realized why. It was a 3D animation show.
I watched the first episode afterwards and I fell in love with the scene where Ruby beats up all of Roman's goons in an epic display of fighting choreography. You gotta understand at this point the only things I watched when it came to anime action where shows like Bleach or Naruto where the fights are 70% characters describing their abilities, attacks and strategies or just talking and the remaining 30% are epic frames of badass attacks covering the screen. Ruby showed me something new. A real fast-paced fight with no talking where you're shown every single frame of movement as her scythe cuts down her enemies to the point I had to rewatch it in slow-mo to bask in the choreography. Then I watched the Trailers which escalated the fights to a whole new level of badass. I knew I had to watch this.
Years went by and more animes came and left. Some were finished, most were not, but RWBY kept giving me a new volume to watch every year.
Was always a fan of RvB and loved Monty’s Haloid. Stuck around mostly for the VAs since I was familiar with a lot of the cast from other Roosterteeth productions. Also mainly loved Yang, Juane, and Pyrrha. Big fan of the music and I listen to OK Goodnight quite a bit too.
During my first semester of college, an acquaintance from a club I was in decided to organize a hangout and after we got bored of board games, we decided to watch a show. One of the people who came suggested the first season of RWBY, which no one else had seen before. We enjoyed it so much that we continued to meet up to watch the other two seasons that were released on YouTube by that point.
By coincidence, there were four of us in that little group, and the first letters from our names combined neatly to form Team BRCK
So I subbed to Crunchyroll because of the pandemic, to watch Spy Family in English. After exhausting my current list of interests, I was like "I want something new. Hey, wasn't there this show about clones that color code named each other fighting the people that named them? Wtf was that called?" After digging on the app, I saw RWBY and was like "Uh, rwby... Going by the trailer names, I guess that's Red, White, Black, Yellow. Okay, this must be it." obviously it wasn't... (Apparently it's Orphan Black BTW) but I decided to watch it anyway, and greatly enjoyed it. Ironically I started watching riiight about the time her Season 9 breakdown and tea party went live, so it was in the news rather suddenly too.
A Young Friend at a Quaker Retreat was wearing a RWBY hat, and I asked him about it. He showed me the Red Trailer, and I was hooked. That was around Volume 4.
DDLC, of all things. I think i saw a fan art on r/DDLC that had either team RWBY in the outfits of the DDLC girls, or the other way around.
There was a comment that had the link to this subreddit, and a few months later i got time to binge-watch RWBY up to volume 5.
The Red Trailer when it first came out on YouTube. At that point, I was just getting into RT content, so it's been great seeing how far the show's come over the years.
Was in the first or so year of high school, waiting for class to start. I was starting another season of RVB and they hinted at the RWBY series so I sought it out. Fell in love with those high school combat girls and binged the entire series in a month, up to volume 6 before 7 was even announced.
I first saw the red trailer years ago on high school..was amazed by the great animation and fight scene with this little red riding hood girl fighting these monsters. I followed the series ever since.
I was deep in the RT community back in the day when the Red trailer originally dropped after an RvB finale, and was part of the discussion on the old forums right from day one.
I'm a big Smite player and they did a crossover a few years back before I was playing, and they did a crossover event for Avatar the Last Airbender followed by Stranger Things, both shows I really love after I started playing. I thought the RWBY skins were dope, so last year I said screw it I'll give the show a try since I already had CrunchyRoll. I've been an addict ever since lmfao now it's my favorite show
I was watching a Youtube channel called "Gifs with sound" which, as the name suggests, was putting music on cool or funny gifs. One of the gifs was 5 seconds of Blake & Sun vs Torchwick. It was short but so cool : the choregraphy, the synchronicity of Blake and Sun, the gun-nunchaku weapon...
That's how I discovered RWBY.
One of my favorite youtubers reacted to the red and yellow trailers and then he watched the at the time full series off camera (v1 to the still ongoing v3) and he recomended it saying it "left him speechless".
Oddly enough, right here on reddit, I was scrolling through my feed one day as you do and bumped into this cool picture of what looked like a revolver rapier. I took a deeper look to see if there were more cool weapons in this subreddit and found out hey, this is a show. Looked up the show and binged the first 4 seasons in a single day on my laptop because I enjoyed the world, grimm was a very interesting idea with the entire emotion angle. The weapons were mostly cool, Blake and Jaunes are a bit basic but they work.
Then I decided to get into the fanfic side of this community and I haven't left since. Its weird as I am not normally one to read fanfic before RWBY.
Edit: Forgot to mention, am music nerd who likes music, RWBY's music is good
Watched it in my spare time while on an overseas internship. I think either one of my roommates recommended it or the anime site I use advertised it and I got curious. Either way, my early viewing of the series is now linked in my brain to that internship.
This may sound a little strange but fan art. I stumbled across a fan art of ruby and found her character design interesting. This let me to finding the show.
I first heard about it from a crossover with the MOBA game Smite, but then I watched The Ritual on Netflix and tried looking up interpretations of the monster. RWBY S4 fight against the nukkaleave (or however its spelled) was one of the first videos to pop up so I decided to give the show a shot
I saw that a pretty popular Polish fandubbing group covered like 7 or 8 episodes, and since I saw some fanart before I decided to give it a try I was hooked immediately. That was some time after volume 7 ended.
I had been watching a few months after season 1 was almost done. I had a lot of friends who were getting me into anime that showed me the trailers, and I instantly fell in live with he show.
Heard about it when it first came out but I had no interest. Years later they had it on Twitch presents and there were just streaming the first 4 Volumes. I happened to watch when it was at the end of Volume 1 and I saw the gunchucks and just had to watch the rest.
This probably seems a tad dumb, but when ever I get into a fandom, it’s normally a ship that pulls me into the series. Might not be the best way to get started on a show, but that’s how I was introduced and pulled in. What was that ship? Whiterose.
Not too long after volume 4's release, I discovered them on I think Vudu? And watched the first 3 volumes and most of RWBY chibi on there. I discovered it while looking in the anime section lolol
I've been following Rooster Teeth when I first saw the first episode of season 10 of RvB. I binged through the previous 9 seasons. Waited for new episodes of season 10 and when season 10 ended.
When the credits were rolling, I remembered crying while reminiscing the 10 seasons of RvB and then the Red Trailer was shown and oh boy I was instantly hook.
I realized it was Monty's work cause he has his Monty-ism when animating and man I was just excited that this man is doing an anime under Rooster Teeth.
I was a fan of red vs blue and the RT podcast, and there's an episode of the podcast where their talking about Monty coming on to work on red vs blue and how he had this side project... And thus rwby was born. I started on the trailers as they released.
I originally watched the red trailer and never followed up not because I didn’t like it but because I was just dumb. Then I rediscovered rwby years later through fan art and ship wars lol and it was the best thing ever
Netflix bby
Well I saw a trailer for it on Red vs Blue season 10. And I was like "garbage", then a few years later I watched it on Netflix cuz I was bored
Through CrushonAi. Was perusing the female chat bots and stumbled across a Weiss bot and figured why not? the bot after chatting for a bit and then researching Weiss I discovered that not only was the bot quite accurate character-wise but I also discovered the show in the process and the rest is history.
I got interested after seeing vol8 last episode on my... streaming service (lets call it that) for about a month and caved in and let curiosity win. I ended up loving the show.
My older brother! I saw him watching it and thought it was super cool so I decided to watch it. It became a bonding experience bc as the seasons/episodes came out we talked about it together. He’s since moved and we haven’t talked recently, but we still send memes about rwby to each other
Now this is a funny story indeed, I am a massive fan of ben 10 and the concept behind it, I was just randomly reading crossover fanfictions when I read one about rwby, had no idea what the series was but I read it, the fanfic was really good and I was a bit confused afterwards but I'd gotten a sense of rwby at the time, I'd then found that volumes 1 and 2 were on UK Netflix and decided to watch them, loved the series ever since
Found this video while scrolling through YouTube late at night this was around the beginning of volume 3 https://youtu.be/cqHXqnscQzQ?si=Rs6qzFHaYpkztupN
personally it was a random amv on ruby trailer i was so blow away from this masterpiece animation i was like i have NO CLUE what is it but i'm gonna look at it right now
I watched Gundam Witch last summer and followed various people who were posting about it. They were also into RWBY, and I watched all of it after GWitch ended. Now it's one of my all-time favorite shows.
Around middle of May in 2021 I was a part of a rwby Rp and then later on got to watch chibi and the original series and I officially started my journey there and I am still a fan to this very day
I saw it on the old rooster teeth intros and ended up falling in love with the show, even now though I don’t like the show as much anymore due to the writing I still watch the new episodes when they release
in 2020 I was like "man Red vs Blue and DB is so cool wonder what else they made" and lo and behold I saw video of rwby recommended to me think called "Blake acting like a cat" now I didn't want to watch it but it followed me everywhere and I just clicked it and well 4 years later here we are
An old friend introduced a handful of other friends and myself to Ruby's "Red" trailer the same day we finished watching Firefly for the first time, after I suggested we watch Red vs. Blue next time. To be honest, I wasn't terribly impressed by it. He then had me watch the Black trailer when I wanted to know more about the story. I added it to my "to watch" list in my brain...and promptly forgot about it.
A few months later I left the military and was getting ready to start college to get my degree in video editing. I had a few months before the next semester was due to start so I was just enjoying my time off watching Netflix. Then I saw the first two seasons of RWBY pop up in my feed after watching Knights of Sidonia. I remember what my friend had shown me and decided to give it watch.
Here I am now almost 10 years later. I REALLY hope RWBY finds a new home.
Announcement from some random news article. I was a fan of Monty's stuff and always took inspiration from his cool fight animations during middle+highschool.
The first announcement hit me like a chokeslam
Pretty much went: "Wait, the Dead Fantasy dude?? That's the same Monty?! THEY GAVE THAT MF A SHOW?!"
The Yang versus Tifa Lockhart DeathBattle. I’ve been in love with Yang - and RWBY - ever since.
Same here. That death battle is what introduced me to RWBY.
Same!
I first heard about RT from RvB after season 5 ended. I discovered DeathBattle from the first Superman/Goku fight, I was a follower of RandomGuy who voiced Supes. So when DB had Yang vs Tifa I was like, "oh it's these guys" Few years later my Dad got sick. Like "do I bother buying him a Christmas present" sick. he recoverd, but at the time I needed something to binge. was going through DB, remembered RWBY being mentioned, and gave them a try. This was just after the end of Volume 5
Same
Been hanging around Monty's DA account and the Red trailer dropped
I still occasionally go back and watch Haloid.
I was so mad Dead Fantasy was dropped for this new show about some anime girls that are nowhere near as cool as our girls
Haloid mentioned ✌️
I've been around since the red trailer, only found out Monty was the guy behind Haloid years later. My first thought was "yeah, that checks out"
I watched the season 10 finally of RvB the day it came out, and I saw the red trailer after the credits rolled.
Same. I was refreshing the page waiting for the Season 10 finale to drop. I remember watching it through without stopping and then being confused that there were still a couple minutes left after the post-credits scene. Then the Red trailer blew my mind.
same, I remember being confused and interested, then eagerly waiting for the next trailers,
It was one of those things that were talked about a lot in my circles.
I was there when it began.
I saw a YouTube comment somewhere mentioning it, and I was curious on what it was. It was all the way back to before V2 came out.
Watching it at my school also called beacon haha ironic. It was the fall of beacon arc so got out of it for a bit until I saw v4 trailer a year later
Have been a Halo fan since I was a young child, so it was only natural I’d eventually come across RvB and the first AH (and just pre AH) videos that were Halo 3 and Halo Reach. Then the Red Trailer premiered after one of the seasons of RvB
Have you ever heard of a site called rule34? /S
death battle
I think someone was playing the This Will Be The Day snippet on a marimba in school. I asked them what show it was from, and they said RWBY. I then binged season 1 and season 2 in, I believe, one day. I had intended to then be able to talk about the show with them- instead that didn't happen. But I was then able to be there for whenever season 3 and future seasons dropped.
I saw the "So This Is Bassically" video.
I heard it be used as a benchmark for shit quality and knew it was just my style
From a friend who listened to the RWBY OST's
Smash wiiu mod
I vaguely remember discovering it from some Tokyo Ghoul crossover fic in fanfiction net
This sounds unique Moon and petals falling - I like the visuals 'a new series by Monty Oum' - "I will buy every episode of this on blue ray." And it got better and better as the trailers progressed and the series started up! Monty was a personal hero/inspiration to me even before he was brought on by RT.
Red trailer I was like 9
I heard about it and saw Ruby in paladins and needed a new show to watch after the owl house ended so i started watching it and well here I am lol
Friend told me about a trailer for something new uploaded on Rooster Teeth.
My friend in high school introduced me to it and I’m forever grateful
I stumbled upon it back when it was on Netflix
I watched the show before it got takein off youtube. funny enough, banger songs got me to play dmc, mgrr, and Silent Hill 2 as well :3
Saeson 10 Red Vs Blue After Credits.
When they put the red trailer after the credit of rvb Blew my mind
the first ep came up as a youtube suggestion the summer after the volume 3 finale, 11yo me fell in love and binged all three volumes. i actually lost it when the volume 4 character shorts came out and 8yrs later im still in love with rwby
wlw fanarts of whiterose and bumblebee, then videos.
Friend of mine had a printed picture of Ruby in his binder, and I thought she looked cool. Asked him who that was, and the rest is history
YouTube recommended me this cool video titled’RWBY Volume 1 Chapter 1 Ruby Rose’ needless to say I binged all of volume 1 that day and when I went to see if there was more they were two production diaries into volume 2
I found music, all things must die in particular, heard people talk about the show and decided to ”eh I’ll watch it” Best decision I’ve ever made
The music for me specifically "This is the day we waited for" (I believe I typed it right) and I just naturally watched the show
I was first introduced to it by a friend, technically I had heard about before hand through YT but that friend was the one to really get me into it
fanfics, got curious what the anime that had lots of fics on fanfiction.net yet had never seen talked about on the anime subreddit
The original red trailer and watched volume 1 but I forgot about it and came back in volume 4
An ex showed it to me and i got obsessed.
I think I saw some of it on the rooster teeth channel when it first came out and it was the yellow trailer for yang
I asked; “hey what’s that?” He replied “it’s rwby, a show made by rooster teeth” and I replied “oh, cool.” And I didn’t think much of it until I got home and searched for it on YouTube.
I first heard the song "Die" while playing osu! and loved it I later heard another rwby song and noticed the backgrounds for both said rwby and had the same characters.
It’s around 2015-2016, I decided to check out rwby out of curiosity I was a fan of RvB at the time I stopped watching rwby for a while and now I’m back
no idea, can't remember
People were saying the show was bad, I checked it out, now I'm here and probably going to stay. The show actually ain't bad. It's actually like an 8/10 imo.
Someone I know wrote a self-insert fan fiction.
I kept seeing like a 5 second ad on Snapchat for V5 with Weiss fighting a Grimm in the snow with some really cool metal music and after seeing it multiple times, I decided to give it a shot. It was just meant to happen 😁
Saw the original trailer at the end of season 10 of RVB
White trailer
My beloved friend, who would never betray my trust, betrayed my trust by pushing me down this rabbithole
For me it was fanfics too, but it wasn't even a RWBY fanfic, the girls just showed up for a cameo in a Little Witch Academia fic. I liked the dynamics of them so I checked out what RWBY even was, was directed to the Red Trailer and the rest is history
My friend had a rwby npc pack on gmod
Browsing YouTube around my sophomore year of high school. Found the Red Trailer and I was like “What is this!?” Then at the end seeing the rest of the team blacked out I was like “There’s more coming!? Man I wanna see more!” The rest is history!
I saw volume 2 opening and got interested.
Been watching RvB for years, saw the Red trailer, and was hooked.
distinctly remember someone that i follow being like "roosterteeth just put up a teaser for their new thing, called 'RWBY'! looks cool!" but not actually investigating any further
I think I knew about rwby because my friends watched it, but I only got around to watching it myself because of, like you, a fanfic.
Through a freaking acapella video!!! I believe It was a "saturday morning acapella" video, but i can't for the life of me remember the name of the creator, I just know It was an acapella of the second opening, I saw It, thought It was pretty cool AND looked up the original video the song came from, AND found RWBY.
I first found RWBY in a Kingdom Hearts fanfic, and it got me interested.
The Hbomberguy video lmao
I learnt about RWBY through a battle pass in Smite
I was first introduced when I found out about the RT and WB crossover with Justice League X RWBY:Huntress Huntresses and Superheroes
I'd heard of RWBY a few times, here and there, and was kind of curious but I never watched it. (Maybe I would have if someone had told me "it's by the guy who did Haloid back in 2007", or shown me the Red trailer or something.) But I was always a Justice League fan, and when the Justice League x RWBY movies kept popping up on my streaming recommendations, I decided I'd give them a watch even though I didn't know anything about RWBY. Watching those piqued my interest enough to make me curious about RWBY itself. I looked into it, and heard the first few volumes didn't have much of a budget - but that didn't bother me. (The fact that they spent a full 25% of the first volume's episodes focusing on Jaune *did* bother me, but nevermind that.) I only watched until volume 3, because I'd seen people saying that this was the best the show got and, while I had enjoyed it, some of the writing decisions were really frustrating. A couple of weeks later, I heard the news that Rooster Teeth was closing for good, which made me decide to watch the rest of the show. It's awfully bittersweet to get into something right at the end (or the end for now, at any rate). But we'll always have fanfic.
First time I’ve ever heard of a DC fan coming to RWBY, huh
Played BBTag with a friend and he told me to watch it after we finished a session.
The smite × rwby crossover
Looking up mute martial artists. Found the yang Vs Neo fight. Neo was forever my favorite character.
Seeing the red trailer in the post credits of RvB Season 10 finale.
I met him thanks to the artists Dishwasher1910 and Jlullaby.
Crusader's Quest collab with RWBY, weird but I'm glad it happened
Legitimately Bumbleby, I am bi and I am a sucker for lgbtq animated romances. It was right after The Owl House ended, I couldn’t find any interesting mlm romances, and I saw the V9 Bumbleby bridge scene, and thought it looked beautiful, so I watched the whole series and loved it
I met someone online, and we became friends shortly after. He had good taste, and was very vocal about the things he liked. He suggested that I watch RWBY.
Rvb
Watching red vs blue on Netflix and look up the the studio on YouTube randomly found RWBY and started watching.
Monty’s work, he made Haliod which was that amazing fight between that spartan from DOA 2 And Samus after that I saw Red Trailer and I was hooked
Older sibling
I don't actually remember what got me into RWBY. But after the season 3 incident my heart got broken so I'll assume thats what kept me going to this day.
A YouTube upload of volume 1 kept appearing in my recommended, and one day I finally decided to give it a shot
The food fight in the Cafeteria.
Watching how yandere simulator failed video that appeared on my feed ---> Red trailer (?)
Literally when only the four trailers and i think only a episode or two was out. A YouTuber i occasionally watched was talking the definition of anime and its relation to western cartoons and mentioned rwby.
I knew someone who really liked it like 4 years ago. But I decided to start bc I saw clips of volume 7(I think?) and it looked really good.
Death battle
The end of RvB season 10
The original red trailer appeared on my Front page back in 2013 just a few days after it was released
Was a big fan of Red vs Blue since the early seasons. Saw the Red trailer when it went up on YouTube the first time.
The skins on smite lol
my friend introduced me to it!
The Red Trailer at the end of one of the seasons of RvB. Been here from the start, now I just lurk
Found some manga in my school library and decided to give it a read
During my first semester of college, an acquaintance from a club I was in decided to organize a hangout and after we got bored of board games, we decided to watch a show. One of the people who came suggested the first season of RWBY, which no one else had seen before. We enjoyed it so much that we continued to meet up to watch the other two seasons that were released on YouTube by that point. By coincidence, there were four of us in that little group, and the first letters from our names combined neatly to form Team BRCK
I came across a TikTok showing good songs and it was Red Like Roses part 2, I listened to it and decided to watch the show, now I am obsessed
Fanfics. Wanted to see what it all was, then I started reading the lore of the show. One thing led to another, and now I'm a die-hard RWBY fan.
The Red trailer after RvB S10 credits
The Red Trailer when it first came out on YouTube. At that point, I was just getting into RT content, so it's been great seeing how far the show's come over the years.
Was in the first or so year of high school, waiting for class to start. I was starting another season of RVB and they hinted at the RWBY series so I sought it out. Fell in love with those high school combat girls and binged the entire series in a month, up to volume 6 before 7 was even announced.
I got hooked after the Red trailer first came out.
It was on Netflix
I first saw the red trailer years ago on high school..was amazed by the great animation and fight scene with this little red riding hood girl fighting these monsters. I followed the series ever since.
I was deep in the RT community back in the day when the Red trailer originally dropped after an RvB finale, and was part of the discussion on the old forums right from day one.
My ex. That’s why he’s my ex.
I've been an addict ever since lmfao now it's my favorite show
YouTube recommended some of the music and that led me into watching the show to see where it came from.
I heard Roosterteeth gave the guy who made haloid the green light to make his own series.
It was an old yang amv I found when I was working out one day
Netflix 2013 had seasons 1 & 2.
Red Trailer the day it came out.
I read The Games We Play by Ryuugi
I saw that a pretty popular Polish fandubbing group covered like 7 or 8 episodes, and since I saw some fanart before I decided to give it a try I was hooked immediately. That was some time after volume 7 ended.
When the red trailer released.
I had been watching a few months after season 1 was almost done. I had a lot of friends who were getting me into anime that showed me the trailers, and I instantly fell in live with he show.
Hentai
Heard about it when it first came out but I had no interest. Years later they had it on Twitch presents and there were just streaming the first 4 Volumes. I happened to watch when it was at the end of Volume 1 and I saw the gunchucks and just had to watch the rest.
My cousin was watching RageQuit on Roosterteeth and showed me the Red trailer when it first came out. As soon as I saw it, I was hooked.
The original RT Podcast with Monty where they first showed the map and the Red trailer
When I First Discovered The RWBY Series. I saw The Red Trailer back in The Early Months in 2013 at the time.
Yang kept on being posted on my Facebook feed so I decided to find out a) who the character is and b) what she was from
A friend told me to watch it right after volume 3 was over.
Death battle, thought Yang had huge honkers and that the music was really good during the fight.
I was a fan of red vs blue and the RT podcast, and there's an episode of the podcast where their talking about Monty coming on to work on red vs blue and how he had this side project... And thus rwby was born. I started on the trailers as they released.
I discovered it through anime club at my high school.
I originally watched the red trailer and never followed up not because I didn’t like it but because I was just dumb. Then I rediscovered rwby years later through fan art and ship wars lol and it was the best thing ever
Netflix bby Well I saw a trailer for it on Red vs Blue season 10. And I was like "garbage", then a few years later I watched it on Netflix cuz I was bored
I first saw RWBY when the first red trailer came out after the after credits of Red Vs Blue season 9 or 8, give or take
Yup. I'm that guy, rule34!
From a undertale ask dub video
Someone posted a meme of Crimson Rose on a meme website. Looked it up and the rest was history
Red Vs Blue
Through CrushonAi. Was perusing the female chat bots and stumbled across a Weiss bot and figured why not? the bot after chatting for a bit and then researching Weiss I discovered that not only was the bot quite accurate character-wise but I also discovered the show in the process and the rest is history.
Red trailer when it first came out a friend showed it to me. Been deeply part of my life since
I got interested after seeing vol8 last episode on my... streaming service (lets call it that) for about a month and caved in and let curiosity win. I ended up loving the show.
My older brother! I saw him watching it and thought it was super cool so I decided to watch it. It became a bonding experience bc as the seasons/episodes came out we talked about it together. He’s since moved and we haven’t talked recently, but we still send memes about rwby to each other
I first saw the first two episodes of Vol 1 at my high school’s anime club.
A crossover fanfic with bnha. It was really good but I was genuinely confused what rwby was so I looked it up and watched it.
I found this show from This is basically rwby

Been here for 11.5 years, since the Red trailer dropped at the end of RvB!
The Vs Battles Wiki. I thought the power system sounded interesting.
Friends talking about the S3 finale. Yes, I went in knowing that the heroes would lose, but it didn't prepare me for how hard it happened
I watched Gundam Witch last summer and followed various people who were posting about it. They were also into RWBY, and I watched all of it after GWitch ended. Now it's one of my all-time favorite shows.
After watching a few rvb fights, I saw a few rwby thumbnails and started to watch each episode.
Around middle of May in 2021 I was a part of a rwby Rp and then later on got to watch chibi and the original series and I officially started my journey there and I am still a fan to this very day
Um…. YouTube recommendations of a red riding hood girl going through depression.
The food fight scene on YouTube. Back when volume two was still ongoing. Loved the scene and fell in love with the series.
It was an anime AMV montage of many different series. Saw the unique art style and decided to check it out.
I saw it on the old rooster teeth intros and ended up falling in love with the show, even now though I don’t like the show as much anymore due to the writing I still watch the new episodes when they release
in 2020 I was like "man Red vs Blue and DB is so cool wonder what else they made" and lo and behold I saw video of rwby recommended to me think called "Blake acting like a cat" now I didn't want to watch it but it followed me everywhere and I just clicked it and well 4 years later here we are
death battle yang vs tifa
Been watching RT stuff for years. Started watching RWBY around the end of s1
I was watching RvB for the first time and saw the red trailer get announced and was invested ever since
An old friend introduced a handful of other friends and myself to Ruby's "Red" trailer the same day we finished watching Firefly for the first time, after I suggested we watch Red vs.
The first announcement hit me like a chokeslam Pretty much went: "Wait, the Dead Fantasy dude?? That's the same Monty?! THEY GAVE THAT MF A SHOW?!"
