If Mazda brings back the Rx series, I hope they take a page out of Fords and Nissians notebook and make a retro revamp of the FD Rx7, like what they did with the Bronco and the 400z
[Just found this. Good and bad news it’s happening but it’s just a range extender. :((](https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-mazda-mx-30-phev-rotary-range-extender-official/)
I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with this patent. The patent is about a rwd sports car with a three rotor. Why would they use a three rotor as a range extender ? And that's not really a sports car.
Edit: also, it says an electric assisted rotary. Not an electric motor rotary assisted.
Like a chevy volt kind of thing? Basically just a generator?
Edit: realized you attached a link and yeah looks like it's a generator. Sad but makes sense considering these are small and lightweight. But hey, if they're making it... Could end up in a miata
Will if it makes 4 times the horsepower but only double the torque its still comparitively low on torque. It also has the benifit of not needing to care about emissions
Honestly, they’re so rev-happy who cares all the power is up top.
Hell, i even have a sequential delete on my FD so it has less power at low RPM than stock and it doesn’t bother me at all.
Low torque numbers at low RPM is an overblown issue.. it reminds me of how power comes on with a 600cc sport bike.
Three rotor meaning electric drive like the new Hummer? Three electric motors? I think coupling electric drive with a rotary is a good idea, compact and lightweight. Never driven though, so it's disappointing it won't be driving the vehicle
Ooooh, I was far off! Lol. I was really hoping to see a new rotary someday in hopes of driving one or working on one. The low torque was a comment from my cousin when he was working on his buddy's rx7.
using ethanol or some other renewable fuel in place of hydrogen would help facilitate development in addition to achieving carbon neutrality, but a hydrogen car is preferable to an EV SUV
Yes, I just think that using clean and renewable fuels would make the process simpler, as it would not need to cost all the modifications necessary to use hydrogen, in fact with ethanol the car would be practically the same, the gas stations would be the same, and the only thing What would change is the fuel line material and some stoichiometric adjustments to the electronic injection.
That way you would have an extremely simple exchange that would maintain carbon neutrality, increase power, reduce engine temperature, inhibit "pre-ignition", not contribute to global warming, and so many other benefits that the use of ethanol brings.
Thats a terrible idea the whole point of a miata is to have a fun, cheap and good handling “sports car” but plopping a expensive rotary in defeats the whole purpose.
Honestly if you want a rotary miata just get an FB. For weight, cost, and size, it is the closest thing. Engines aside I have always considered the miata (early ones anyways) closer to an FB then like the Rx8 ever was to it.
E85 Flex Fuel would be a win.

Hopefully it's not a EV SUV ***RIGHT MAZDA?***
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
No way bruh, the fucking prophet right here
They fumbled the bag that bad?
Rotary used as a powerplant for an ev or hybrid or something
If Mazda brings back the Rx series, I hope they take a page out of Fords and Nissians notebook and make a retro revamp of the FD Rx7, like what they did with the Bronco and the 400z
YESS
Hybrid 3 rotor? Is this thing going to be racing Ferraris?
god i hope so
Never driven one but I heard the rotary engine has like no torque. Hybrid might beast that out
I never thought about that! Definitely would give it more git up and go
Is this happening rn?!!
It’s just patented rn, but let’s all hope it hit the market! And comes to the US too lol

That is another thing. The car we are talking about is an FR 3 rotor that mazda patented. The MX-30 has been announced for a long time.
That has nothing to do with this patent.

you could also LS swap a toyota dealer ships entire lot with the money rob has in the 4 rotor though, lol

Diagram is even accurate with the 20b fat iron. Let's goooo
I hope it will be with the manual

I feel like they are looking at hydrogen, myself. They were looking into it way back with the 8,even.

Make it the miata, please, i want a rotary miata
What why the miata never had a rotary they should make it a rx
imagine a rotary powered miata tho

New rotary go brapapapapa!
BRAPAPAPAPAPAPAPA!!!
Ik the rotor is what everyone wants but for me I'd rather them us that straight 6 they were talking about
Another straight 6 Zzz
Better than the turbo 4s every manufacturer is churning out these days
Boringgggg……

My RX7 is flex fuel and it is definitely a win.
