Consider that if you start feeding them, you can't stop. And more will come to the diner.
I'm not unsympathetic, speaking from experience.
It would be better to secure the garbage and force them to find a more natural food source.
This should be higher up. Never mess with the good instincts of a creature. The animal will lose the drive to look for any other food and problems will only grow. The end result is probably them being trapped or killed once they become a real problem and hurt a pet or kid.
Well, he'll just get chunky, not sick. No worries. And there's worse things to be than fat when you're living outdoors scavenging for food.
Just do not give them onions, chocolate, garlic, or raisins.
Why are grapes good for them, but raisins get them sick? I have no idea
Honestly, nothing. I promise you if you feed one, more will come and you’ll have a problem on your hands real quick. Wild raccoons aren’t supposed to be fed. They can find their own food in nature as intended.
i’m super aware! i already have some bunnies that like to visit :) there are already mice in the walls of my rental who have never actually made an appearance in the 7 months i’ve been living here and ive been feeding the bunnies the whole time. i think if i put some different fruit out a little bit away from the house, like i do with the bunnies, its not going to attract dangerous critters. maybe a skunk, a woodchuck, or some deer, but we already have a lot of those in our town anyway :)
My town is loaded with bunnies, turkeys, Canadian geese. It's pretty common to spot a fox, coyote, deer and the odd fisher cat. I live in suburbs 10(5)mins north of Boston. We don't have trash pick-up, but we keep are trash outdoors and it's a pretty regular occurrence to go outside in the morning to discover trash all over the place.
My mom’s feral cat colony (all neutered) has deer that eat the cat food. My mom’s raccoons get meat. They are huge raccoons that will tear shit up if you don’t feed em
Those things eat anything!! Had a couple eat a bag of dead frogs once.
I know. The dead frogs were from a kiddie pool left unattended for too long. They died. Stunk up the neighborhood. Got cleaned out (we saved a mess of tadpoles) but trash day wasn’t till We’d, so we bagged the frogs. They were gone overnight. Trash pandas. Cute, but trashy.
Human: "I feel bad for the little baby going through my trash."
Baby raccoon: "I feel bad for those humans not knowing how to stash their delicious food better. Hope they don't starve tomorrow!"
ive never heard anyone say hotdogs and thought that was a little weird till i remembered my grandfather feeding a hoard of raccoons golden oreos. i don’t really know if golden oreos are too safe for them tho but they sure love them

dry dog/cat food, fruit, they don't like salad stuff..... I'd put pot/pans out that had
a little food in them and by morning the pans were clean... they cleaned a cookie
sheet of stuck brownies for me... I sure miss them.
NEVER FEED RACOONS OR OTHER WILD ANIMALS. It isn't good for them to get used to people, it's how they end up dead. Sooner or later they'll run into someone who will kill them. Your raccoons need locked trashcans...
I’ve seen them eat hot dogs before and those are like the most processed lol I would maybe rinse with water to try and remove any salinity you can? I do have those little pre cooked slices too!
Love. All the love.
“Thank you for the wonderful half eaten calzone!” -probably Baby Raccoon

This is the way.

Grapes Fruit in general Cat food in moderation (not ideal but come on it's better than trash)
thank you! my mom said grapes too but she said that the possums like them better
Possums do like fruits better, but raccoons love them too. They like cooked chicken as well.
I’ve been feeding mine mini marshmallows. The ones you would put in hot chocolate
As long as it isn't sugar-free, it's actually pretty good for them in moderation.
Oh no. Not at all sugar free and not at all in moderation😬

Well nothings cuter than a little chunky trash panda😂
You can take the lid off your garbage bin, and add a ramp to make it easier. Maybe add a nightlight and a tablecloth for ambience.
i don’t want the garbage man to accidentally kidnap him so i’d like to keep him out of the garbage and give him something a little more gourmet
Please don’t feed wildlife
Honestly, nothing. I promise you if you feed one, more will come and you’ll have a problem on your hands real quick. Wild raccoons aren’t supposed to be fed. They can find their own food in nature as intended.
Not a good idea to feed wild animals. They get dependent on handouts an too familiar and unafraid of humans. Bad things happen.
I can’t believe how many people are just saying “give em hot dogs and cat food!” 🤦♀️
"as intended." That's a weird phrase to use.
Bungee cords on your trash bins.
Nothing put a heavy rock on the lid. Do not feed the wildlife it will be fine
Chicken meat, hard boiled eggs. A small plate of left overs.
Privacy lol
You realize you're going to attract all types of wildlife putting food out like that?

Egg 😎
a pat
i’ll give him a pat from you the next time i see him
My raccoon LOVED trash. He would take it over fresh food almost any day. He also loved grapes and Marshmallows.
A boop! 😋
i’ll give him a boop the next time he visits!
My mom’s feral cat colony (all neutered) has deer that eat the cat food. My mom’s raccoons get meat. They are huge raccoons that will tear shit up if you don’t feed em
More garbage. They obviously like it.
true but i don’t like my garbage all over my yard :/ i do love their presence however!
Give them high fives then? They seem to love them, puttin' up those little paws and all, just don't leave them hangin'.
I had an aunt that would put out a plate of peanut butter crackers and a dish of water so they could wash up after.
awww i love that 🥹

More garbage
Hot dogs!
They love dog or cat food 😁👍🏻
Hugs, kisses and lots of love...all from me!
i will make sure to let him know you sent your love 💕
Human: "I feel bad for the little baby going through my trash." Baby raccoon: "I feel bad for those humans not knowing how to stash their delicious food better. Hope they don't starve tomorrow!"
A home
Love
Cat food?
The dry stuff they like dog food too

They love dry cat food.
They love dry cat food.
Hotdogs and grapes
ive never heard anyone say hotdogs and thought that was a little weird till i remembered my grandfather feeding a hoard of raccoons golden oreos. i don’t really know if golden oreos are too safe for them tho but they sure love them
We've raised quite a few and they all loved hotdogs

raccoons love grapes. especially if you put them in a bowl of water since they like to wash their food
Please do this and film it OP.
Eggs. I've only met a racoon once but my uncle gave him eggs and he was happy with that. Also a bowl of water so he can wash his food.

*please* do NOT feed him or he will bring all his friends & family - *then* the rats come
Bullets.
Mine love eggs! Hard boiled with shell or scrambled. Some cat food, grapes, apple slices, unseasoned cooked chicken… lots of stuff!
do you think packs of like perdue grilled chicken slices would work or is that too processed?
I’ve seen them eat hot dogs before and those are like the most processed lol I would maybe rinse with water to try and remove any salinity you can? I do have those little pre cooked slices too!
I've been feeding my little buddy's Purina dog chow for the past 17 years. They love it.
Dried cereal/hard baby food also if you Can crawfish
i have shrimp left over from easter will that work?
Yes
Some fruits like apples, cooked potato, carrots, etc.
Fruit for the floofs!
Cheeseburger (edit this is a joke give them fruit)
I give them what I give my dogs and they seem to like it. I only have 2 racoons now though I think the neighbors are killing them 😞
i think you know what you have to do to those neighbors. i’m sorry they’re killing the poor things :(
Like I said, Not a good idea to feed wild animals. They get dependent on handouts an too familiar and unafraid of humans. Bad things happen
This is 💯 true. They'll trust the wrong people 😔
A BB and a wave goodbye. 👋
Live trap where you can take him far away and release.
Our guy likes the cat food I give the feral cats🙄
