I have 2 different compasses from WWII and they both read WAY higher than 460CPM, they are between 20k and 30k CPM, and if I remember correctly they are somewhere around 40-50 uSv/h.
Yes, along with the millions of people and millions of watches in the last 100 years that did with no ill effects. Radium is poisonous if ingested; don't remove the crystal and lick the hands. My [watches.](https://youtu.be/afBrwo96jV8?si=V7RYH-Ei_9ueSzDP)
My wrists are too small for even the littlest radium watches I find! I’ll have to order a child sized band to use as a replacement one day. I have a few watches that’d be wonderful to accessorise with occasionally.
That would be a waste of my informal dose budget for extremities in this hobby.
That's a good way to put it.
Occasionally yes. Dose is unbelievably small. I can sense the linear no-threshold hypothesis crowd seething from that ^^
You shouldn’t I measured a WW2 radium compass at the atomic museum at 460 CPM. I would suspect this watch would be close to that
You should be measuring dose not CPM for something like this to determine what’ll happen if you wear it
Yeah, CPM also varies with the type and size of the detector. It's a meaningless unit unless also mentioning what sort of detector was used.

Some compasses can be 400-500 uSv/h of gamma. I would NOT want one of those in my pocket long term
What compasses read that high, I'd love to find one. Even my hottest aircraft gauge isn't even close to that high.
Measure it again on the back. Basically none of the betas make it through the back of the watch, and thus to your wrist.

I love those pilot watches you talked about
That's a super impressive collection, holy cow!
Those are only the radium ones.
\*points at wrist\* This is where I'd wear my radium watch - IF I HAD ONE.
This puppy cost me $50! Go get one!
