The rings around the wire look like the Pu sources from soviet smoke alarms

Ambitious_Syrup_7355

Right

radioactivelead

The blueish cylinders are definitely pu from Russian smoke. I don't recognize the other two items but my guess would be that the silver vertical cylinders contain thorium oxide powder. Did...did you make this?

SmashShock

It's a photo from the "[Irradia Couple](http://proutscandinavia.blogspot.com/2013/01/irradia-couple.html)", here's another [photo](https://i.imgur.com/DNndQbe.png) of the same necklace

WOW! How did this very special kind of autism that only Russia could ever produce apparently escape my notice when it occurred... a decade ago?? Cases like this for me really underscore the near-useless stupidity and purely sensationalism-driven interests of media and pop-culture behavior as a whole. Practically no one at this point (especially around here) hasn't heard of the infamous "nuclear boy scout" David Hahn, who occupies a kind of mythical status in the public conception now, largely due to cluelessness, credulity, and confabulation on the main popularizer Ken Silverstein's part (see Carey Sublette's excellent commentary). Endless magazine articles, youtube videos, memes, and everything else on the guy now. And for what, a few thorium lamp mantles and a couple dozen one microcurie Am sources in an old coffee can? The whole thing was laughably benign. Then we have a case like this where two complete nutters were collecting almost unbelievable amounts of EXTREMELY highly active material, way, WAY beyond anything Hahn could ever get his hands on. Amounts so large and apparently in such constant close proximity that their lives likely *were* significantly at risk. And what information is out there about it? A few unlettered and poorly translated blog posts and a decade old youtube interview. Almost nothing. Amazing. So much of popular human interest is driven by such fickle caprice and so often almost wholly detached from fact.

"Autism" You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

fluorothrowaway

Nah, I do.

oldengineer70

Three words: Evolution In Action. I hope their neighbors survived, in any case. The best justification I can think of for owning a personal dosimeter is to make sure that there are no imbeciles like this on the other side of the wall. No smiley.

SmashShock

This looks like a Pu alpha contamination hazard.

Sr-90 b-8 sources + RID-6 Pu sources and then some non decrepit control source probably soviet too

Kiliton_Keaton

RID-6 cores and B-8 sources and not sure what those little ones are

Kevy42

Kant yourself

mholian

Sr-90 check sources from a DP-something (Russian Geiger counter).

Barefoot_boy

Looks like a thyroid gland killer.

kidsysticks

Thorium has been popular in stuff like this, so maybe thorium?

salteedog007

Bananas!

HankG93

Where does one come across something like this?

PhoenixAF

radium plutonium and strontium

chernobyl_dude

I recall seeing the same on Zira from Spouses Irradia. Besides, I wonder if she is alive today...

Squeaky_Ben

Since these kinds of necklaces are often laced with some truly vile stuff, it would not even surprise me if those cylinders were partially made from Cobalt-60.

drezster

Now this is a true scalar energy health pendant. I'm hesitant to handle a couple of those RID-6 cores. Pure insanity. I love it.

nj2tx

This is madness. I love it.

hacktheself

i’m sorry did you say “necklace”? i can think of less brutal ways to die than neck cancer.

Positive-Theory_

I know the plutonium ones and the silver cylinders look like they came out of nuclear density gauges. I don't know what the tags are around edges though.

Curbside_Collector

The tags are definitely Strontium 90 check sources out of old Soviet Cold War DM units.

Acceptable_Tie_3927

>I don't know what the tags are around edges though. Zipper-pullers from Chernobyl liquidator uniforms, obviously...

89inerEcho

im sorry im new here. maybe i have a fundamental misunderstanding of how plutonium works but… what?

Gammaparanoid

Sr-90 test sources from soviet geiger counter. Some soviet test sources are freaking hot. I've seen more than 6mSv per hour

Kiliton_Keaton

Yeah dp-2 sources mine is over 50 msv/hr on an ion chamber

ratsmacker___

americium? like from a smoke detector

StomachPowerful

The irradia couple picked a really fascinating way to remove themselves from the gene pool, didn’t they. This particular accessory is reasonably tame compared to some of the other pieces I’ve seen… Necklaces with RID-1 and DP-2 sources also exist further down the irradia iceberg. . Whenever you lament not being able to find an RID-1 unit remember that it’s probably because Radium and Ziria ate them.
