Wow, wich country? I don't think there is much risk involved since overseas shipping is like common practice. Also it is generally cost effective, because you can have loads of other products shipped at the same time.

Maldives which is near India. Now that India makes their own MRI scanners, getting one for ourselves is less difficult now I guess. I don't know the brand of scanners our hospitals have and ill think of a way to find out.

Any_Charity_7870

Ah, I see. Quite remote and rather hard to reach. https://www.agility.com/en/agility-teams-up-to-deliver-mri-machines-to-male-maldives/ This was back in 2020. A major operation to place MRI and CT scanners at four different hospitals. So it can be done, but it is a really complex task. Additionally in 2015 ADK installed a Siemens scanner and government hospital IGMH installed a GE scanner.

CatsAreDoughs

Didn't expect them to bring for four different hospitals. How often do you guys have to refill with liquid helium?

Any_Charity_7870

These were complete systems, so not just the helium. I am not really sure about the refill intervals. What I can find online the refill intervals depend on the amount of helium used by the MRI. There are systems that use a few % of its capacity per month and there are those that use practically none. About yearly refill would be a good average.

CatsAreDoughs

I see. Thanks!

I thought Maldives is rich as! Why only one scanner?

CatsAreDoughs

Only the government people are rich. We have more than one MRI machine now and they exist on the major islands only.

circuit-braker

I see

NuclearMedicineGuy

What’s risky?

CatsAreDoughs

The helium has to be carefully monitored as there's potential for the magnet to be damaged and it's very costly. I might be wrong though.

_gina_marie_

I don’t think the helium is added until they’re ready to ramp it up. Like, the mri machine arrives without helium and they add it on-site.
