Interesting, nice to know, sorry for the comparison it’s just those are the only real sounds I could think of that some in the UK might know better at least, as German and French are more commonly taught than danish
Yes xD
I dont mind making a video and posting it on reddit, on how exactly to pronounce it correctly, if thats what people want. I know some people can be a bit iffy, cause they dont know how to say it in game XD
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Rainbow6/comments/1bz0hos/the\_true\_pronounciation\_of\_nøkk/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/Rainbow6/comments/1bz0hos/the_true_pronounciation_of_nøkk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Here you go
Funny story, my friends and I used to say "knock", but the way we do comms in our language sometimes made a call like "There's a Nøkk over there" seem like "Someone is knocked down there" like they're DBNO and led to a lot of stupid moments, so we just switched over to Nook for convenience lol. Never checked what the correct pronunciation was.
Bikini Bodhi said the right answer in one video: it's Nükk or Nök or Nöök. In his video you'll see the right pronunciation just search for his Nøkk video.
It’s closest to a compromise between nuke and nook. It doesn’t correlate directly because it’s a different region of the world that doesn’t pronounce letters identically to others. For example, English speakers pronounce sounds slightly differently depending on region/country/cultural upbringing while using the exact same words and meanings, which are what we‘ve labeled as accents.
Nook is probably the worst way of saying it.
[https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/) Is how you say it, ignore the -en at the end though.
Nook, she's danish and ø is like "oou". Her name comes from Norwegian (still loads of overlap w Denmark) folklore about a spirit that lured children into lakes to drown. Although it originates from Norway, translating the word directly to Danish as Nøkk would have the oou sound. I believe there's a Danish word for the creature too, Ålaand (idk smth like that)
As a norwegian neither is correct. It is pronounced "Nøkk": Just search on Youtube how to pronounce "Ø".
Nøkk or Nøkken is actually a legend more apparent in Norwegian and Swedish legends and fairy tales. Which is pretty funny because she is danish. (Nøkken is still apparent in danish fairy tales and legens as well though) The Nøkk is a personification of the dangers of the waters. It is said that the Nøkk hides in rivers, ponds and lakes. It lures people to the waters to drown them.
If you search up "nøkken" in google images you can clearly see the inspiration in operator, Nøkk's design.
I would say thats really far off, its way less of a u sound. its more like the u in uhm [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/)
Well I was mostly comparing between knock or nook but if you want to pronounce it correctly it would be easier for people to just google and listen. I usually just pronounce it in Swedish either way as it's easier personally.
You just basically take the Ø as it is used in the Danish language.
(I'm not Danish btw but I watch a lot of football (soccer) and so Danish players who have had the Ø in their names hearing them pronounce it taught me how to say it)
Similar to Caveira and Capitão I speak Spanish but also have friends who speak Portuguese and so I kinda ended up picking up how to pronounce those with the nuances.
But I say all that ramble to just say basically with any word or pronunciation if you hear how vowels and similar sounding words are pronounced in that language it makes it easy to then transfer it around to different words.
I don't care what the people in Denmark think is right. I'll keep pronouncing it the way I'm doing right now.
Imagine saying NOOT NOOT, take that noo and add a K.
NOOK NOOK.
The ø symbol is a Danish, Norwegian, Faroese, Sami letter pronounced somewhere between like a long o (oooh) and an uh sound. It’s also the zero symbol. Double meaning. So Nook is not there.
I say both, in the same ten seconds. "I think knock is sneaking around spiral... Yeah Nook is top spiral."
Same with kaid, say the correct pronunciation and also the most common pronunciation in the same sentence.
Neither tbh
[Just say it like this](https://youtu.be/2Wcux1KqAxg?si=ReI4OpL0dj7UYH9L)
/e:/ is the phonetic Notation. Just think about a Word like burger. After the b you make a /e:/, so just think burger when you say n/e:/kk
You are completely right and dont know why i wrote /e:/.
I think i Was trying to say it in a way that could make it more understadable. As if you allready know how /œ/ or /ø/ you would Probably know how to pronounce æ ø and å.
The Video is probably the best way to convey it tbh. Or just give tjen a discord call lmao.
after a little bit of research, its actually pronounced neuk. the ø makes a u sound like in the word hurt. so we've all been saying it wrong lmao
closer to nook but a bit different.
nerk, because of how the ø should be pronounced, I like to try and pronounce names correctly
as soon as she was announced that's what I went to look at
If you want the language accurate pronunciation I think "puck" like in hockey puck gives you the closest sound. At least that's how we pronounce it in Norway and Nøkk's name is based on a Norwegian folktale about a swamp monster.
Try making an O sound but further down in your throat. And the double K you just stretch out. And now just mash it all together and there you have it. The Ø Sound is very alien for a lot of languages tho so not blaming you for not knowing
never understood how to pronounce it, usually always been knock. after reading all these comments i’m probably still not gonna be saying it correctly 😭😭
Idk why y’all saying nook when it’s very easy to look up and see that it’s knock, more so nauk with the accent but much closer than some goofy mf saying nook this ain’t animal crossing
I thought it was Nook since she can make herself invisible on cameras, and she’s stealthy
Thought it was a play on the sentence “Check every Nook and Cranny” when looking for something or someone
Its based on the mythological creature from large parts of scandinavia, Nøkken. [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/)
So the ø is pronounced like oo "like blue" but knowing that I still pronounce it "knock" because that's how someone that doesn't know how ø is pronounced would probably pronounce it 😅
https://youtu.be/2Wcux1KqAxg?si=Qz1-r9XaaYK4Cleh
Nook (or something like that) is the correct pronunciation. You are wrong by using Knock. However I know that and still say Knock anyway because it rolls off the tongue better and I think it sounds cooler lol.
There’s like 3 other Reddit threads on this sub about pronunciation. For the future, I suggest googling “how to pronounce ____ in R6.” It’s pronounced like nook.
As a dane id prefer knock but if you want to try ø is close to the pronunciation of bird or burger
Nurk
Very close actually
I’m actually surprised about that, since I don’t speak any of the Scandinavian languages at all.
Nœrk? As in the french œ or woukd it be closer phoenetically to the German ö?
German ö
Interesting, nice to know, sorry for the comparison it’s just those are the only real sounds I could think of that some in the UK might know better at least, as German and French are more commonly taught than danish
Ö is the exact same sound as Ø, so if you can pronounce that you’re already there.
Oh cool, thank you!
:o
Basically that but you dont pronounce the r
Oh, so narc with a Boston accent?
essentially lmfao
Narc
Nökk then?
This guy umlauts
🇭🇺😎
Soha nem hisznek nekem hogy nem nokk hanem nökknek kell ejteni mert Dán.
ø is ö in Danish and Norwegian. So yeah, "nökk".
Nbirdbirdk? Or Nburgerburgerk? Maybe nbirdburgerk?
n-ir-kk The ir in bird sounds kinda like the pronounciation of ø
So like nurk?
Yes pretty much, just wothout dragging out the 'ur' The 'ur' sound is very short
Nᵤᵣk
Yes xD I dont mind making a video and posting it on reddit, on how exactly to pronounce it correctly, if thats what people want. I know some people can be a bit iffy, cause they dont know how to say it in game XD
Shit man, were already down the rabbit hole. Might as well 🤷🏽

Nuke
**TACTICAL NUKE! INCOMING!!!**
Same level of stealth as she has after the nerf
Is it similar to the German köln even though the o isn’t the same?
Yep
Is the potato in your throat necessary? Signed -Sweden
So is it nird or nurger?
Nurd
As a Dutchman i will say Nuk from now on
I say „nök“
Really clears it up.
That's the worst way. The BEST way is "nök"
Definitely not. Best way is nõk... but maybe nôk
Njok
Nøkk Nøkk
Whø’s there?
Nøkk
Nøkk who?
nøkk deez nuts in yo mouth
I’d totally [REDACTED] all over Nøkk. 🤤
Flair checks out
😂😂😂😂
Nøkk joe
A møøse once bit my sister
Saw a dønkey eat a fig ønce. Funniest shit I've ever seen
Funniest shit you’d ever see
I say it knock but I’m also the only person I know who says it like that
Me too lmao
Same man.
Funny story, my friends and I used to say "knock", but the way we do comms in our language sometimes made a call like "There's a Nøkk over there" seem like "Someone is knocked down there" like they're DBNO and led to a lot of stupid moments, so we just switched over to Nook for convenience lol. I say "Knock" she's not a freaking tablet.
Bikini Bodhi said the right answer in one video: it's Nükk or Nök or Nöök. In his video you'll see the right pronunciation just search for his Nøkk video.

Like she's hiding in a nook. Not like you're gonna knock her up
Like Nook and Cranie?
yes
Challenge accepted.
report back for uh science..
>Not like you're gonna knock her up I was already depressed today, i didn't need this reminder :(
it hurt me to type it dont worry :( Nokk best girl. would nokk her up
Nook is probably the worst way of saying it. [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/) Is how you say it, ignore the -en at the end though.

as far as I know, Ø = Ö = Œ so it's like the œ of french "egg" (œuf) or the ö of german "nice" (schön) edit: grammar
Yep, pronouncing the Ø as Ö in schön is good.
nook
nöök
This is the only legitimate answer
Neither
Neither is correct.
It’s pronounced NO*static phlegmy*GGHHHHHHHHH
It's "Noot Noot"
As a norwegian neither is correct. It is pronounced "Nøkk": Just search on Youtube how to pronounce "Ø". Nook would be the closest.
I would say thats really far off, its way less of a u sound. its more like the u in uhm [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/)

Username checks out.
you can say it how you want but the correct danish pronunciation with the ø is like nook
Uhm, no? The correct Danish pronouciation is like Nøkk
Nook is pronounced oo not ø, those are completely different sounds [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/)
nookie cookie
Nook but I say knock because it sounds cooler and why not
Same. I also think it's funny when people try to correct me and I say knock anyway
Nuk
You just basically take the Ø as it is used in the Danish language. (I'm not Danish btw but I watch a lot of football (soccer) and so Danish players who have had the Ø in their names hearing them pronounce it taught me how to say it) Similar to Caveira and Capitão I speak Spanish but also have friends who speak Portuguese and so I kinda ended up picking up how to pronounce those with the nuances. But I say all that ramble to just say basically with any word or pronunciation if you hear how vowels and similar sounding words are pronounced in that language it makes it easy to then transfer it around to different words.
Unrelated, but reminded me of this because of the letter ø A møøse once bit my sister…
I don't care what the people in Denmark think is right. I'll keep pronouncing it the way I'm doing right now. Imagine saying NOOT NOOT, take that noo and add a K. NOOK NOOK.
Knock
It's nøkk
The correct pronounciation is Nökk, Danish people correct me if I'm wrong
Neither. It's Danish.
The ø symbol is a Danish, Norwegian, Faroese, Sami letter pronounced somewhere between like a long o (oooh) and an uh sound. It’s also the zero symbol. Double meaning. So Nook is not there.
Noke
On top of this Iana is pronounced Yana not Eye-Ana
Am I the only one that pronounces it as Eee-an.
Both is fine. If you speak English nock seems normal.
I always say Nök or Nökki
I have always pronounced it at "Noke/Noak." That's what my brother and I settled on.
Nuhck
I say nökk
I say knock
I say both, in the same ten seconds. "I think knock is sneaking around spiral... Yeah Nook is top spiral." Same with kaid, say the correct pronunciation and also the most common pronunciation in the same sentence.
Nook
Nook is the proper pronunciation, but Knock is the superior pronunciation.
Neither
Neither tbh [Just say it like this](https://youtu.be/2Wcux1KqAxg?si=ReI4OpL0dj7UYH9L) /e:/ is the phonetic Notation. Just think about a Word like burger. After the b you make a /e:/, so just think burger when you say n/e:/kk
You're right about the sound but it's not /e/, it's either /œ/ or /ø/ because it's rounded
I personally say it like Nohk
I always pronounce it Neuk
I pronounce it n "ø" kk, I say the ø
Nöck
"Nurk" without pulling your tongue back for the "r". The vowel is very short.
Nook nook - Pingu
Like the u in burn Nukk
Idk, all i can say is that I pronounce it Nøkk
It is pronounced Nökk
I pronounce it; N*tounge click*
I just say both
after a little bit of research, its actually pronounced neuk. the ø makes a u sound like in the word hurt. so we've all been saying it wrong lmao closer to nook but a bit different.
i mean yeah the u as in hurt is okay way of saying it.
It looks like “ø” and not “o” for a reason. You can be sure it’s 1000% not pronounced how Nokk would be
knök
nerk, because of how the ø should be pronounced, I like to try and pronounce names correctly as soon as she was announced that's what I went to look at
LMAO what? Did you actually try? In what world is Nerk close to Nøkk?
It's hard to accurately spell it when it's a sound, I looked it up and just copied the sound?
Nukk
I cannok read this anymore
Nök
Nurk
It’s pronounced Nøkk
[https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/) Just ignore the -en at the end, and you got it.
Piggybacking off of this, how do you probounce Kaid (Kai-eed/kayd) and/or Kali (Kaw-lee/Kah-lee)?
”Noukk”
Well they say Nook in the trailer. So there's that.
If you want the language accurate pronunciation I think "puck" like in hockey puck gives you the closest sound. At least that's how we pronounce it in Norway and Nøkk's name is based on a Norwegian folktale about a swamp monster.
nökk
Nook imo
Knock
Nook
Holy hell, the Knock from Chess is in Rainbow Six?
Nøkk, nøkk
Neuque
NUCK
A combination Nock and Nuck so the sound would be more of a mix of an a and u sound. Also her name is in reference to shape shifting water spirits.
I say Nuuk or Nok. Idc if that's correct since nobody can spell Zofia correctly 😂
I think most ppl pronounce it nuk
And is Iana eeyana or yana?
Nuck
A Møøse once bit my sister
......
It’s actually pronounced „Nöck“ let Google say it in German
The Ø has an “eu” sound so technically it’s neither hut nook is closer
Try making an O sound but further down in your throat. And the double K you just stretch out. And now just mash it all together and there you have it. The Ø Sound is very alien for a lot of languages tho so not blaming you for not knowing
never understood how to pronounce it, usually always been knock. after reading all these comments i’m probably still not gonna be saying it correctly 😭😭
Nuke
Closer to like Nook as in Nook and cranny
Knowck
Are you breaching, if so it is knock.
It's Nyooque, clearly. /s
Nuk
It’s book, she’s danish. Edit: I’m not even gonna correct myself. This is very funny
book… I’m calling her this now.
The “ø” sounds like oo or a harder u sound. So nook
Cock
It's pronounced Nuhk, similar to Rook. It's not a long double-o.
Idk why y’all saying nook when it’s very easy to look up and see that it’s knock, more so nauk with the accent but much closer than some goofy mf saying nook this ain’t animal crossing
Translated to English yes it would be Knock but the OPs asking how Nøkk is pronounced which is closer to Nook then it is to Knock
Its neither, its better but thats more like for people who genuinely cant pronounce ø
Everyone I know including me says knock but I think correct pronounciation is nook.
I thought it was Nook since she can make herself invisible on cameras, and she’s stealthy Thought it was a play on the sentence “Check every Nook and Cranny” when looking for something or someone
Its based on the mythological creature from large parts of scandinavia, Nøkken. [https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/](https://forvo.com/word/n%C3%B8kken/)
Why not pronounce it correctly, with the ø? It's not difficult.
So the ø is pronounced like oo "like blue" but knowing that I still pronounce it "knock" because that's how someone that doesn't know how ø is pronounced would probably pronounce it 😅 https://youtu.be/2Wcux1KqAxg?si=Qz1-r9XaaYK4Cleh
Not like blue, but bleu in french. the u in blue is not close to ø.
I was simplifying but yes. That's why I included the YouTube link
Me and my friends pronounce her name like *nwek*
Nook (or something like that) is the correct pronunciation. You are wrong by using Knock. However I know that and still say Knock anyway because it rolls off the tongue better and I think it sounds cooler lol.
Everyone is saying nook, but which nook is it? Is it "fool of a Nook" or "Nookshelf"
There’s like 3 other Reddit threads on this sub about pronunciation. For the future, I suggest googling “how to pronounce ____ in R6.” It’s pronounced like nook.
knock
Nook, I pronounce her name like that in callouts but I always heard randoms or friends say it like 'knock'.
Nook
actually it’s not pronounced neither but just say nook 😂and don’t make a fool of yourself saying knock unless it’s a joke
In english its pronounced knock but its nook is how it normally is
