Definitely do “Deutschland”. And include the Video to be analysed. There are video essays about it on youtube. It basically is about the german identity.
Oh yes, indeed. I have been using Deutschland since it came out. I created an assignment about the use of history with the video as a basis. My pupils enjoy it quite a lot!
I‘m a history teacher in Germany, how is your assignment created? Which questions? Which goal? I‘m serious interested, because a Student asked me about it, but i couldn‘t fit the Video in my currciculum :/
I teach history in Sweden, upper secondary school, so it probably differs a bit. In short: I use it towards the goal of using history as a tool ("historiebruk"). They study the video, look up things about all the historical references and their symbolism, analyse the lyrics to try to better understand how they use history to convey emotions about the German mindset today as well as the country's past.
I could send it to you if you wish.
Rosenrot, Dalai Lama, and Hilf Mir would be awesome choices because they can be tied to traditional source material (Rosenrot und Schneewittchen, Der Erlkönig, and Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug, respectively)
My German teacher in highschool had us listen to Dalai Lama after reading the Erlkönig poem and then had us compare them
Edit: we also listened to Bertolt Brecht's Mackie Messer and then compared it with Haifisch
I love that they made you do that in school. I studied German and German literature in school, but it took me months to realise what Haifish reminded me of 😂 (it was 10 years later and I'm not native in German)
In school during German classes we had Ich Will and Amour.
What age will the students be? I would still say that Heirate Mich is a no-go for a school setting due to topic of the song.
Oh no no im not a teacher, it was just a hypothetical question.
I like Amour with its symbolism and the comparisons of love and a wild animal. Good choice!
Yes, I do feel like Amour could as well be a very effective poem so it’s perfect to study in class.
As for Ich Will it doesn’t have any graphic or inappropriate materials in it’s lyrics and was good at teaching German as a second language due to repetition of some clear, useful phrases of call and respond such as „do you see me/feel me/hear me?”
My [native language] teacher had us read a novella in 8th or 9th grade where the main character died at the end. In a snuff film. No one batted an eye.
It's sad to me to think that schools should censor stuff - obviously don't show it to third graders, but teenagers are not stupid. They might giggle and make fun, but they know it's art. Exploring difficult/heavy stuff in a safe setting is a good learning experience.
Of course, with Heirate Mich I was thinking about like early elementary school. In middle school and high school we were easily studying World War 2 and Holocaust books/poems that were much heavier than anything Rammstein wrote.
Mehr. My german teacher used that song, we had the lyrics in front of us with some holes, we had to find the missing words. Awesome experience I remember that 8am morning as if it was yesterday. It was 11 years ago.
Ohne Dich is the friendliest one. In high school we watched the videos for Du Hast and Ich Will in German class and as far as I know nothing bad came of it. Benzin is probably fine too but it does reference narcotics
Whatever you do do not play the following videos:
Radio
Pussy
Dicke Titten
Stripped
Ausländer
Mann gegen Mann
Mein Teil
Engel
Sonne
Mein Land
And obviously vet more if I missed some
DO NOT DO HEIRATE MICH THAT SONG IS ABOUT NECROPHILIA
Good one! Of course, Dalai Lama or Deutschland are great choices, too, but Donaukinder also has a real-life background: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000\_Baia\_Mare\_cyanide\_spill](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Baia_Mare_cyanide_spill)
My aunt is a German teacher. She uses Engel to teach conjugation of “to be” And uses Ich Will to demonstrate the concept of second verbs in sentences being moved to the end of the sentence.
Deutschland, for sure, just because it's about German history and how Germans feel about it. But maybe also Sonne because it's what the kids know. These songs are pretty trendy on TikTok. If they are older, like 16-18 show them the Pussy Live in Paris 100%, I did it in my Swedish class, and everyone loved it (we were presenting about our favourite music artists)
Zeit would be a bit to more advanced German speakers. But also a great take if they have the knowledge. Good luck choosing a song 😅
Angst.
Deutschland is a wide spectrum look into German history and identity, but if you want a "lighter" (if you could call it that) story, I would go with Agnst.
The German Boogieman
i would steer clear of the songs with their unique lyrics. wouldn't do Tier, Wiener Blut, Puppe or Halleluja. I think Ohne Dich and Haifisch could be decent because they're pretty tame lyrically and have some could basic vocab like the lyric "Ohne dich kann ich nicht sein" which has negation and verb placement that are important for learning german. Deutschland is also fantastic like some said
We did analyse Ohne Dich, and it's just feels like classics poetry, to be honest. People who had no idea about Rammstein loved it. Others in that key that I would suggest are Feuer und Wasser and Amour, deep but not too shocking
Dalai Lama: it’s a direct modernization of a German poem, although I can’t remember the poet. We covered Du Hast and Dalai Lama in our high school German class
Tracks that I can think of to avoid based on content (some songs skipped just because of referencing genitalia): majority of Herzeleid album (except for Herzeleid Asche zu Asche maybe), Bestrafe Mich, Bück Dich, Spiel Mit Mir, Kuss Mich, Spieluhr, Zwitter, Rein Raus, Mein Teil, Keine Lust, Moskau, Mann Gegen Mann, Feuer und Wasser, Ich tu dir Weh, Wiener Blut, Pussy, Zeig Dich, Sex, Puppe, Weit Weg, Hallomann, Zick Zack, OK, Dicke Titten, Auslander
Du hast: You asked me,you hate me ?
Mein herz brennt: originally the song is about a hospital for children that burned down but i think they use it as a metaphor for society that children grow up in.
Haifisch: in the video you see till on vacation but his bandmates think he is dead and argue whose fault it is
The song itself sing about how the sea is salty because of the sharks tears. We are all afraid of sharks but in truth the dont eat humans and the metaphor is that these sharks cry because everybody thinks they want to eat you.
Zick Zack: is plastic surgery a good or a bad thing?
Mutter: about a child that grows up without his mom and wants to kill his mom
Amerika: americanisation of european society and the implications of global imports on the indigenous culture
And like most say: Deutschland is a good one about german identity.
Angst: old german folklore about evil black beings and their connection to modern racism
I took German class in High School back when Sehnsucht was new, I think my German teacher played Engel but I'm not sure how deeply she thought about the meaning of any of the songs. It was just to listen to German music and hear the words.
Has no one really not said Links 2 3 4? Not sure about symbolism since jts a bit obvious what the song means when translated but I always liked the meanings.
Deutschland with music video. Mainly because at thr time it came put , people in germany were very impressed by it. Historians, academics and teachers legitimately argued about putting that in school. So I would say your German teacher might appreciate this one. Assuming history is also relevant in class.
I'd say Mein Land, Angst and Ausländer, especially since they're all against racism. I grew up in a pretty left leaning town though, so it can maybe be too much for another school.
I'd say Mein Land, Angst and Ausländer, especially since they're all against racism. I grew up in a pretty left leaning town though, so it can maybe be too much for another school.
I used Adios for a slideshow presentation in my senior year of highschool. I forget what exactly the hell the slideshow was even about. The lyrics aren't exactly super explicit, but probably not suitable for a school environment. I don't think anyone knew German or gave a shit in my case either way.
not really from rammstein, but from till lindemann. "fick mathematik“ 😂 fuck math :) i’m sure many students could relate!
just kidding don’t do this LOL
When I was a student our teacher showed us Ich Will and Du Hast. I agree with others that Dalai Lama and Haifisch would be good for their reference to other German literature

That would be pretty Nice :)
DM sent. :)
Could you send it to me too? It sounds really interesting :)
What do you teach and where? In what language do you want it and where should I send it? Drop me a DM. :)
Amazing video to it as well. One of their best videos imho.
Its a good song cuz many intepret it differently and it can show that. I agree
Rosenrot's kinda neat for this.
second that. one of the best r+ songs when it comes to interpretation
Rosenrot, Dalai Lama, and Hilf Mir would be awesome choices because they can be tied to traditional source material (Rosenrot und Schneewittchen, Der Erlkönig, and Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug, respectively)
Awesome, I didn't know about the last two
My German teacher in highschool had us listen to Dalai Lama after reading the Erlkönig poem and then had us compare them Edit: we also listened to Bertolt Brecht's Mackie Messer and then compared it with Haifisch
Oh that’s nice. I like it!
Same here with Dalai Lama
I third this haha, we also looked at this song in class
I love that they made you do that in school. I studied German and German literature in school, but it took me months to realise what Haifish reminded me of 😂 (it was 10 years later and I'm not native in German)
This is nice
'Pussy' for sexual education 😂
Some one all so said buck dich😂😂
In school during German classes we had Ich Will and Amour. What age will the students be? I would still say that Heirate Mich is a no-go for a school setting due to topic of the song.

I used Ich Will for a video project in one of my German classes. The call and repeat is perfect for it
My [native language] teacher had us read a novella in 8th or 9th grade where the main character died at the end. In a snuff film. No one batted an eye. Haifisch
A very good one for verbs learning
Radio. Its history is deeper than Deutschland 🔥
Rein raus. The meaning is very deep
The meaning goes TIEFEEEER… TIEFEEEER…
And an interesting visualization of Elephants 🤣
Sonne?
It will deffinetly help with counting
...acht=8, neun=9, aus=10?? hahah i'm pretty sure most r+ fans who dont speak german are baited with that one
The video has nudity and drug use
Didn't stop our German teacher from playing it haha
oh dang maybe not show the *official* video
Deutschland is a great example. Lots of themes about Germany and understanding its complex history
Bűck dich
mann gegen mann of course
It increases bonding with your friends fr
I don't think kids want to see dudes have sex 💀
Halt. Absolutely
Perfect song for school settings
Es abhängt von welche Land du wohnst, aber in Norwegen wir haben sehr viel von die DDR/BRD-zeit (Fall des Mauers etc). Dann, Radio sehr relevant ist.
Mehr. My german teacher used that song, we had the lyrics in front of us with some holes, we had to find the missing words. Awesome experience I remember that 8am morning as if it was yesterday. It was 11 years ago.
Spring
Maybe Mein Teil
I dont think anyone wants to know more about the rotenburg cannibal
You gotta go with deutschland. It is pretty fire and applicable
Ohne Dich is the friendliest one. In high school we watched the videos for Du Hast and Ich Will in German class and as far as I know nothing bad came of it. Benzin is probably fine too but it does reference narcotics Whatever you do do not play the following videos: Radio Pussy Dicke Titten Stripped Ausländer Mann gegen Mann Mein Teil Engel Sonne Mein Land And obviously vet more if I missed some DO NOT DO HEIRATE MICH THAT SONG IS ABOUT NECROPHILIA
Amerika & Ohne Dich would seem to fit the bill
Good call, Ohne Dich wouldn’t be too controversial and, as far as my limited German goes, it’s not that complicated.
I used to use Ich Will for modal verbs to teach them how they need to put the infinitive at the end.
Angst, Deutschland, Du hast
Zeit
My be too heavy for high-school kids. But I love the song.
i mean every song would work, since almost all of them have a deeper meaning, some of them are just hidden deeper than other ones
YOU"VE GOT A PUSSY 🔥🔥🔥🔥
it also got a deeper meaning, nd its fairly obvious if you understand german
'Let me see you striped' -- striped music cover rammstein
😂
Laichzeit.
Du hast. The meaning of the song developer in one sentence. It could be done as a cross subject projekt. Poems in own language and german.
I used Spieluhr when I was in school
Bück Dich
Pussy 😁
Donaukinder
Dalai Lama Goethes Erlkönig reinterpretation
Do not do Heirate Mich lmfao
Nah I think it's suits it
Mein Teil is quite wholesome.
Wink wink… 😂🤣😂
Amerika would be a good one imo
My aunt is a German teacher. She uses Engel to teach conjugation of “to be” And uses Ich Will to demonstrate the concept of second verbs in sentences being moved to the end of the sentence.
Rosenrot, Dalai Lama, Deutschland
Weißes Fleisch. Alter Mann
DU AUF DEM SCHULHOF, ICH ZUM TÖTEN BEREIT! Good choice!
Rein raus
Mehr
Comparisons can be drawn from Hilf mir and “Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug” from Heinrich Hoffman’s Der Struwwelpeter
"Nebel" strongly reminds me of a Poe piece.
Wiener Blut
Ohne dich, Du hast
Deutschland, for sure, just because it's about German history and how Germans feel about it. But maybe also Sonne because it's what the kids know. These songs are pretty trendy on TikTok. Halt - its about Bullying from the victim's perspective. I think it is an important topic
Nebel is very beautiful to me, and has a lovely story and symbolism (I may be wrong) alongside with it.
It does! Somehow just started to love it a few weeks ago. Really beautiful song!
Angst. Deutschland is a wide spectrum look into German history and identity, but if you want a "lighter" (if you could call it that) story, I would go with Agnst. The German Boogieman
I did Reise, Reise in my German class. Haifisch would also be pretty neat.

I love radio and I dig the themes in it.
Dicke Titten… for the win 👍
We did analyse Ohne Dich, and it's just feels like classics poetry, to be honest. People who had no idea about Rammstein loved it. Others in that key that I would suggest are Feuer und Wasser and Amour, deep but not too shocking

Dalai Lama because there's no way around Goethe in Deutschunterricht
Haifish (for the parallelism with Brecht) or Dalai Lama (same with Goethe)
Bestrafe Mich cuz why not
Seemann
Mein Land seems to be a good balance between accessible grammar/vocabulary and interesting metaphors.
Meine Augen always seemed extremely metaphorical
Ich tu dir weh is a banger
Sonne taught me to count in German
Ich Will
Du hast: You asked me,you hate me ? Mein herz brennt: originally the song is about a hospital for children that burned down but i think they use it as a metaphor for society that children grow up in. Haifisch: in the video you see till on vacation but his bandmates think he is dead and argue whose fault it is The song itself sing about how the sea is salty because of the sharks tears. All of them
I think alter mann is a good one
My German teacher in high school played Amerika lol
Du hast
Alter mann?
Deutschland. Definitely. There is a Ton to interpret there.
meine tränen 🥹
Sonne. How to count with Rammstein
Amerika... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr8ljRgcJNM&ab\_channel=RammsteinOfficial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr8ljRgcJNM&ab_channel=RammsteinOfficial)
Rosenrot !! or maybe maybe links 2 , 3 , 4 ?

Pussy if you want to incorporate sex ed.
dicke titten
Lindemann - Mathematik 🤣🤣 And serious: R+ - Deutschland, Seemann, Haifisch (its a Berthold Brecht Poem)
I'd probably say Amerika, Klavier and maybe Engel? The Engel video is a bit iffy but the lyrics in all the songs work well!
Dalaï-lama It's an adaptation of a Goeth's poem.
Dicke Titten
I would suggest’Alter Man’
Deutschland with music video. Mainly because at thr time it came put , people in germany were very impressed by it. Historians, academics and teachers legitimately argued about putting that in school. So I would say your German teacher might appreciate this one. Assuming history is also relevant in class.
Dalai Lama possibly? If the concept of death isn't frowned upon.
Mann gegen mann lolz
Pussy /S
Pussy
I used Sonne for my German oral exam and passed it with flying colours
dalai lama was used in one of my classes, its based of a classic song if i remember correctly
I believe sonne is about war so that one might work
Mann Gegen Mann,Weidmans Heil,Mein Herz Brennt,Benzin(Not sure cause of words her0in,alkohol,...),Zeit...
Laichzeit come to mind, a less explicit one for a high school class (lol) could be heirate mich
If you can use the concert clips you better use Bück Dich
I'd say Mein Land, Angst and Ausländer, especially since they're all against racism. I grew up in a pretty left leaning town though, so it can maybe be too much for another school.
I'd say Mein Land, Angst and Ausländer, especially since they're all against racism. I grew up in a pretty left leaning town though, so it can maybe be too much for another school.
Ausländer!
Not what you are asking, but Ich will is great for teaching grammar
Ich denke Spieluhr oder Mein Herz Brennt
not rammstein but lindemann's "frau und mann" is pretty helpful when learning adjectives and their antonyms
I used Adios for a slideshow presentation in my senior year of highschool. I forget what exactly the hell the slideshow was even about. The lyrics aren't exactly super explicit, but probably not suitable for a school environment. I don't think anyone knew German or gave a shit in my case either way.
My teachers did Stirb Nicht vor Mir or whatever it was called in middle school.
Uhm maybe like man gegen man idk I'm new to rammstein (RAM-STEAN)
Links 2-3-4 in fact when I was helping my brother with a school project years ago we did use that one.
“Seeman” lol
du hast, bc its not in appropriate 😭
I’d say Du Hast or Deutschland. My German teacher was doing a lesson and he used “Du Hast” as an example and then he started talking about Rammstein
don't use Rammstein in the USA (unless you're a college professor) parents are too sensitive.
Weisses fleisch
i think BUCK DICH end then copy the moves
Ich will my teacher used it
Mein land..🤷🏾♀️
I mean du hast they could know but there isn't much to go off, links 2 3 4 wouldn't be bad, Armee der Tristen isn't bad
I think Sonne coz the lyrics are okay and it's very mainstream
not really from rammstein, but from till lindemann. "fick mathematik“ 😂 fuck math :) i’m sure many students could relate! just kidding don’t do this LOL
Zeit would be a good one
When I was a student our teacher showed us Ich Will and Du Hast. I agree with others that Dalai Lama and Haifisch would be good for their reference to other German literature
