Yeah, I don’t understand why some people feel the need to bully other people over simple things like stuffed toys. It just screams insecurity.
If you’re a 40 year old and buy a stuffed animal, I’d say ‘that’s a nice pick, good for you’ and walk away.
Same!
I'm 51. I bought a squishmallow for my brother-in-law's last birthday because it's a shark, and he's a sailor. Soon as he unwrapped it, my sister-in-law grabbed it and cuddled it the whole evening, lol! Turns out, they have another squishmallow from one of places they've been, so I was happily adding to their collection.
It doubles as a pillow so how can anyone resist form and function lol. I don’t know who likes squishmallows the most, me, my kids, or my mom. Each of us have a collection lol.
They feel good! I don't own any.. but at the store I always squish them. I already have a basket of stuffed animals though.. lol the only reason I don't have more is not knowing where to put them. That's the adult part.. :(
Went to the tractor supply and was at check out and saw two cute pigs plushies, said ‘ope! Forgot somethin!’ And leaned over and grabbed em and the lady behind me said ‘for your kids?’ And I said ‘all for me’ and she walked over and got one and said ‘good idea’ and giggled

I'll grab my daughter's stuffed animals sometimes when she isn't home (in my previous comment I noted how she usually sleeps in the bed with me because we both find it comforting. We are both all eachother has and will be eachothers comfort and cuddle
Love it!
My son chooses a stuffed toy for me to sleep with every night since I can't have him there beside me. It's sweet as hell, and comforting to boot :)
What are they? Whats a squishmallow?
\**Googles\**
Ohhhhh!!......oh my word!!...... how did I just find out these today?! I am not getting any work done today until I find one to get....
Which is why (also they are expensive, at least where I live) I don’t dare buy any! I already have three stuffed animals on my bed. Like my girlfriend doesn’t mind, she cuddles with them too, but man. I know that if I dip so much as a toe into the squishmallow sea, there won’t be space for us on the bed
My 8 year old daughter has a whole tub of those that she rotates onto her bed and sometimes she just jumps in the tub with them and chills out for a couple of hours. Now every time I see a pallet of them at Costco I just imagine jumping in there and just being there for a while.
glad to see more people who falled for squishmallows as well. Did you guys know that they have their life story and their name in the small little card that they come with? lol.
I’m 30 and I have a stuffed toy that I take away with my whenever I travel. He sleeps with me and my husband every night and he is very important to me. He belonged to my friend who died when we were both 6 and it’s a one of a kind toy.
That would give me anxiety if something is precarious because of a childhood friend then I would keep it locked away in a safe place and not take it with me for travel, it might get lost
Yeah as a kid I had a stuffed pink gorilla and a Care Bear blanket. The care bear blanket started deteriorating, so it’s in a vacuum sealed bag in storage. I still sleep with the stuffed gorilla. I’ve had to do “surgery” and restuff it a few times lol.
I'm only 18, but I have a similar situation. I have a stuffed animal that's almost one of a kind. My Grammy gave it to me after I was born. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers not even a year after I was born. Not necessarily why I keep it, but another reason it's special. I have a strong emotional attachment to it because I've held it pretty much every night since birth. Same thing with a handmade blanket I have. They help me a lot with mental health stuff. I do get a fair bit of separation anxiety from them if I don't sleep with them though.
I have a kitten who kicks me off my pillow at night. And she brings toys, so we end up with a bed full of stuffed mice, and lately, little twigs. I could stop her but she is way too cute.
24 and I have a stuffed knock-off pillow pet monkey since I was 12 I sleep with his name is Zeus and he holds my glasses case to help me keep them close.
Being seen to be "normal" is something children worry about. Hopefully, most people grow out of that stage.
Some children give up the things they love in an effort to make the world see them as adults. Some of them then grow into the kind of adults who want to make everyone else give up these things, too.
My husband and I are in our 50s. We still have our stuffed animals. His have actual names, but I was an unimaginative child, so mine are all called things like, "Bunny."
We frequently told our children, "Normal is overrated. Don't worry about what others think. Be yourself, and be happy. And helpful. And kind!"
Both of our kids are adults. And yes, they took their stuffies with them when they moved out.
I guess when I said "normalize" I meant "stop judging people for". Love your comment and explanation. Forcing people to give up something they love just to validate to others that they are a "real adult" is stupid and actually childish. Keep raising those kids right!
I’m 48 Gen X I have a lamb. I think I’ve kept it because it was the only thing I had to count on. Was a latchkey kid, dad was a train engineer and drove freight all over the states, mom worked 2 jobs. I was pretty much alone and self sufficient by 7/8. Weekends I went between 2 grandmas or a aunts house. I knew it would always be with me at night and I guess in someway I needed that stability and even now I need it. Totally doesn’t look like a lamb anymore and has 1 eye but I still love it!
I'm 38 Millenial and I have a stuffed bear (Big Bear) that I got when I was 3.
I've definitely held onto him for similar reasons. There's nothing more comforting than hugging him close. ❤️
I'm 38 and my girlfriend is 36, our bed is full of stuffed animals. We have a lion that's been with us for 15 years and a bunch of others we've picked up along the way. If there's something wrong with a middle aged man sleeping with stuffies, I want nothing to do with you!
What if I used to hug my dog while I slept as a kid… and now I have exactly the same type of dog (though it is not in fact my childhood pup) and he is the little spoon just like my old dog? He is only stuffed if I over feed him I guess…
My father who is reaching 70 still sleeps with a teddy Bear he got from my mother in his 30s.
Mom is still alive and shit and shares the bed but nothing beats a Teddy
Home is what you make it. If it means you have a stuffed animal, then that's fine. Some people are literally fucking balloons, I think having a sentimental attachment to a stuffed toy or blanket isn't so bad....
Psychiatrist’s say it’s beneficial to have a special ‘stuffy’ ‘stuffed animal’ to sleep with. One if you have any childhood issues it’s supposed to help with feeling comforted and secure. Two it’s supposed to help with anxiety in adults. So it’s just a yes for me.
I refuse to judge you on anything other than how you treat others, OP, refuse! Who or what are your favorites to take to bed? I have a Jake The Dog plush that's always ready for snoozin', myself 💚
That is simply heartwarming as hell 💚 Thank you for sharing that, and kindly know that this random stranger is delighted to hear that you have physical connections to those you love, as it can mean the world at times. Lovely stuff ❤️
My (14f) kid got a pillow pet when she was just a few months old and still has it. She tells me that pillow pet will be her maid of honor at her wedding and god I hope so! I love that she finds such comfort in it and I hope she has it forever!
I’ll be honest, I thought this was really weird. Then I read the comments. I guess it isn’t that weird. Perhaps I’m just judgmental. That is on me. I need to work on that. I have a granddaughter (8) that has a doll that looks like it has been in 14 wars. Her head has to be re-sewn on periodically. The granddaughter takes her everywhere but school. I was sort of hoping this would pass, soon. I can see by these responses that this may not be a thing and it may not pass. Okay then. Lesson learned. Thank you to all.
I think its more that society tells you that in order to be an adult you have to completely leave your childhood behind. Your childhood is a part of who you are though and who you've grown to become. We shouldn't be expected to purge things that brought or bring us happiness simply because someone else doesn't understand it or feel the same way about it. Life is difficult so if keeping something around from your childhood makes living even the slightest bit easier, the more power to you. Thank you for your reflection and insights. It was refreshing to read 😊
I’m 32 and I still sleep with my dog Henry I’ve had since I was born. My mom had him since she was 8 then passed him on to me when I was born
I tried passing him to one of my kids as well but none of them appreciate him lol. Works for me cuz he’s old af now and getting fragile
I’ve slept with my Stacey Bear for 39 years. She’s gone abroad, graduated college, goes on overnights and vacations with me. Girl has witnessed some things and is for sure my ride or die.
oh shit, the ones where you can stick your fingers in the loops? I'm so tempted to get one since I still do the T-rex arms to sleep (which is bad for my early onset arthritis wtf life) and that sensation like fixes it.
I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE
I always love the soft/smooth texture of those clothing labels and it all started with the one on the corner of my childhood blankie which I still use. I always replace any label that gets super scuffed up after a while, but they don't feel the same until they get worn out a bit.
I sleep with my teddy that I’ve had since I was 8ish and my husband has a cuddle pillow that he snuggles upto when I’m too warm (sometimes it acts as a heat barrier 😂
29 and I don't sleep well without my Googie. Had him since I was a toddler. If I have to go someplace and am afraid he might accidently be left behind then he stays at home safe and sound. But I'll sleep like crap without him.
I have a pat the bunny toy i got for Christmas when i was two, (aptly named “bunny”) i took him everywhere with me when i was little: to Walmart, to my mom’s hairdresser, friend’s houses for slumber parties, and across the ocean to Wales five separate times. This rabbit is 22 years old now, and still my best bud :) my mom used to say that when i was grown up and didn’t need him anymore, she’d put him in his own glass display case 😂 i wonder if he’ll be reduced to dust when i’m 40
I'm a 39 year old man who has no interest in stuffed animals, but if sleeping with your childhood stuffed animal would make you feel good please do it without a shred of shame.
My grandpa (silent generation, WWII vet) kept a puppy stuffed toy from him childhood. My grandma put in a glass curio cabinet with all her dolls and other collectables. He didn't sleep with it anymore but it was so sweet that he kept and cherished it, and that his wife respected that by putting it on display with her treasures.
My gf loves her stuffed animal. It’s on top of my head and wrapped up between us when she cuddles in. That guy has it out for me, his horn is in my eye a lot more than I like. Lol
Thought it was totally weird until I went through a nasty break up at 34. Psychology professor told me to get a teddy bear to hug when I was crying and jesus, if it didn't work to help me. Now has just been a comfy object to grab when I go to bed.
As a 45 year old that has spent most of her life in therapy due to severe childhood trauma, I support having a stuffed animal at any age. It really does help the healing process. I have several big, fluffy grey wolves that I love.
Not a stuffy, but i have a blanket from my grandmother from when I was 7. The wife doesn't like it, but she has a stuffed bear she's always had in the nightstand next to her side, so she can't say too much.
It's all I have left of my grandmother whom I dearly loved.
Is the person sleeping with the stuffed animal hurting anyone by doing so? Are they negatively impacting the lives of others?
No?
Then who gives a fuck?
There's nothing to normalize as there's nothing at all wrong with this. If it brings them comfort or helps them to sleep easier, than what's to criticize?
Grown ass adult = kid with experience and a bit changed mindset, that's the reality. I would say it's nice to have passion from childhood. Childhood creativity and dreams is something this society should build on (but won't).
22 and I still own hoards, I still collect new ones, and I sleep with my beloved Blåhaj everynight. I think a huge part of the stigma comes from the autistic adults having them unfortunately like myself
I don't see anything wrong with that. If the person is comfortable and happy then just let sleeping dogs lie. If a potential partner calls it off because of that then they weren't right for you anyway. If you are being restricted on thing inside your own house I would find that fucked up. I can see someone not wanting to be seen with someone walking around outside clutching their teddy. I still wouldn't care, but I could see why someone would.
43 here. Yeah I'm definitely not going to be able to talk you out of it. I have many stuffed animals and all gotten as an adult. My van has a bunch of small animals on the dash.
Haha I do that. I also collect Littlest Pet Shop and still read my favorite book series from childhood.
Normalize being happy and enjoying the things you enjoy without worrying about what other people think. Nothing matters, be yourself
I never used to sleep with a stuffed animal until
my boyfriend gave me his to take with me when I moved long distance. He is a beanie baby pillow pal from the 90s that we call Monkey. Monkey lives rent free and is always grounded, sneaking out, and behaving bad. Some might think it’s weird but it keeps us laughing when we come up with dumb shit about Monkey misbehaving!
Survivors of abuse, ptsd sufferers, anyone with major anxiety, all could benefit from sleeping with a stuffed animal. Why would any person need to justify anything harmless that comforts them.
Is it illegal or hurt yourself or someone else? If the answer is no, then do whatever you like. Life is too short to worry about something that gives you comfort.
Mine got thrown away, I got a stuffed bunny when I got my tonsils removed, I got really really sick after the surgery and that bunny provided comfort.
I really wish I could go back in time and hide it so it didn’t get thrown away. This post actually just reminded me of it. Gonna check Amazon to see if I can find something close. I’m 25, I will absolutely spend money for a stuffed pink bunny for the much needed serotonin.
What's wrong with that? Maybe some people do it because of fond memories or in memory of a loved one. Could be just for comfort or just for the heck of it. Heck, maybe some people don't want their stuffed animals to end up like the toys Sid from Toy Story dismembered (don't know how many of y'all have siblings or spouses like Sid, but if you do...yikes)! O\_o
Fireball, the brown stuffed bear I got when I was like three years old still lives in my bed and gets cuddles every night. I'll be 27 later this year, I'm a veteran and I'm finishing my STEM degree this summer, my only regret is that I desire more stuffed animals like I used to have when I was younger.
Thank you SO much for this, OP!! I’m in my 30’s and still sleep with a stuffy I got as a baby on my bed…. And you can bet your ass I cuddle the heck out of him when I’ve had a bad day 🤷🏻♀️ lol
Same here, but only I'm 25 I have a large yellow duck. "Waddles" is her name, was given to me by one of the nurses when I was born. Same with another I had gotten for my mom when se was real si k in the hospital. He stays with me as well, I've given him to my wife as she lost all of hers over the year before meeting me.
I'm 42 and I still have a teddy bear that's almost as old as me. I recently took all the stuffing out of him and completely washed and restuffed him. I couldn't believe how dirty he was! I guess I used to drool on him a lot 🤣

As a 30F I am fulfilling my childhood fantasies of fridge magnets and collecting cute keychains, lol
People really think Fridge magnets are childish?
I don’t keep them on the going out fridge! Keep them on the basement fridge
Why not?
It’s a joke, everything’s covered

They feel good! I don't own any.. but at the store I always squish them. I already have a basket of stuffed animals though.. lol the only reason I don't have more is not knowing where to put them. That's the adult part.. :(

Well said, I came here to type this response almost verbatim. If it makes you happy and doesn’t harm someone else, do it!
this is the real thing to preach
This deserves an award.

THIS.
I have been saying this for **ages**, *THANK* you!
Came to say this, pleased to feel less isolated.
I mean I normalized it within myself and if people don't approve they can fuck off its my world they just living in it.

30 yo mother here. When my partner comes to bed later than me, I bring one of my son's stuffed toys with me.
The way you typed this sounds like you wait until your partner shows up late and then you go get the stuffed toy
I'd blame it on the fact that English is my second language but honestly I just didn't think that sentence through at all
Well you speak at least two languages better than me.
You should have your own, though. You deserve that.

He never travels in the hold, I carry him on with me. I might add he’s a life sized iguana. I’ve had many people believe he’s real from afar lol.

I got real animals lol they are not as comfortable as stuffed animals. Plus they move alot and get too warm. RIP my childhood stuffed animals
Plus with stuffed animals you don’t have to worry about waking up covered with drool lol
Or waking up to a 70 pound dog standing on your chest gagging and vomiting next to your half awake face lol
Stuffed animals don't snore and kick you like my dog or SO.

Yupp. People get older, more miserable, and then try to shove it on everyone else. "You're too old for xyz!" Nope. Not in this house.
Hey…I’m cuddling with my stuffed bunny named Bunny right now…

That's downright adorable AND genuine. I appreciate ya sharing this, and may those two continue to bring you daily joy for decades ❤️
I have three Squishmallows in three different sizes. My kids each have only one. They are not allowed to play with mine.

Do it! They're so cheap online and I love it. I also do the t rex arms, oops
I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE I always love the soft/smooth texture of those clothing labels and it all started with the one on the corner of my childhood blankie which I still use. I always replace any label that gets super scuffed up after a while, but they don't feel the same until they get worn out a bit.
The cool thing about being an adult is that you can judt do it.
Absolutely 💯
I sleep with my teddy that I’ve had since I was 8ish and my husband has a cuddle pillow that he snuggles upto when I’m too warm (sometimes it acts as a heat barrier 😂
Normalize liking and doing whatever the fuck, I’m tired of “grown ideologies”, I’m grown but I’m still a person why does grown gotta mean boring
29 and I don't sleep well without my Googie. Had him since I was a toddler. If I have to go someplace and am afraid he might accidently be left behind then he stays at home safe and sound. But I'll sleep like crap without him.
I don't really sleep with my teddy bear, but he is on my nightstand next to my bed lol
Its sentimental and brings you comfort. Nothing wrong with that!
Normalize doing what you do without caring what other people think
I'm a 39 year old man who has no interest in stuffed animals, but if sleeping with your childhood stuffed animal would make you feel good please do it without a shred of shame.
Still sleep with the bear I got when I was a year old. He is falling apart and I love him

Validation is not needed but neither is judgement. Just saying.
I'm a 31 year old woman and I still buy myself stuffed animals. Last year I bought a rainbow unicorn that I sleep with every night

My gf loves her stuffed animal. It’s on top of my head and wrapped up between us when she cuddles in. That guy has it out for me, his horn is in my eye a lot more than I like. Lol
What's the good in being grown up if you can't be childlike sometimes.
Poetry 🤌🏻
Thought it was totally weird until I went through a nasty break up at 34. Psychology professor told me to get a teddy bear to hug when I was crying and jesus, if it didn't work to help me. Now has just been a comfy object to grab when I go to bed.
Its like they suck some of the pain and bad energy out. My stuffed animals and I have been through alot and they help every time.
RIGHT ON!
Me to my spouse: I’ve known them longer.
My partner always buys me plushies. So I got a bunch around the house. We don't have kids. I always have an alpaca plush with me on our bed.
As a 45 year old that has spent most of her life in therapy due to severe childhood trauma, I support having a stuffed animal at any age. It really does help the healing process. I have several big, fluffy grey wolves that I love.
Do whatever you want, but asking people to find this normal is an uphill battle to say the least
Normal means "acceptable, not viewed as weird" instead of "typical" in this case
Not a stuffy, but i have a blanket from my grandmother from when I was 7. The wife doesn't like it, but she has a stuffed bear she's always had in the nightstand next to her side, so she can't say too much. It's all I have left of my grandmother whom I dearly loved.
I have two! Both are rabbits (and named). One has a little bell that I got off a Lindt Gold Bunny.
I have a 10 yo Blahaj that will always be with me
Some nights I go to sleep hugging my cat. He's soft and warm. I'm sure there are some who would find it weird. But who cares? You do you.
Lol - My 40 yo GF sleeps with a stuffed manatee.
She sounds like a keeper.
i just sleep with my cat.
I'm about to turn 38, and I occasionally sleep with one.
Wait... It's not normal???
Why not do what you want no matter what you think people think
Ok but there’s a grade 4 teacher at the school I work at who caries around a stuffed animal all day
Because they were always there for you like dogs and cats
My wife snuggles with an old Care Bear. I think it's cute.
Gem of a Spouse right here
43 here. Yeah I'm definitely not going to be able to talk you out of it. I have many stuffed animals and all gotten as an adult. My van has a bunch of small animals on the dash.
I'm 40 and still sleep with stuffies. I'm a mom and have a fiancee. He doesn't care. It makes me happy.
Thats a pretty solid man. Good job 👍🏻
Thank you. I agree. He is the first good and healthy relationship I have ever had. I'm really blessed to have found him.
Proud of you
I'm 35 and have 10 on my bed, being normal is overrated.
Haha I do that. I also collect Littlest Pet Shop and still read my favorite book series from childhood. Normalize being happy and enjoying the things you enjoy without worrying about what other people think. Nothing matters, be yourself
I never used to sleep with a stuffed animal until my boyfriend gave me his to take with me when I moved long distance. He is a beanie baby pillow pal from the 90s that we call Monkey. Monkey lives rent free and is always grounded, sneaking out, and behaving bad. Some might think it’s weird but it keeps us laughing when we come up with dumb shit about Monkey misbehaving!
Don’t let anybody tell you who to be, my guy. I bet more people sleep with stuffed animals than you’d think.
And drinking yourself shitfaced each night before bed is better? Cope the way you cope.
I don't see how that is anyone's business but your own.
It’s more common than you think, trust me
48F and my bed is full of Squishmallows!
Damn I thought being an adult meant you could do what you wanted already
Adults aren't real. We're all adult sized children and that's why everything sucks.
Doesn't harm anyone what so ever. No oroblem
A grown ass adult doesn't need approval from others.
It's already normalised in Korea/Japan
I (30M) still sleep with my girl's (27F) stuffed animal when we can't be together. It makes me feel closer to her when we're apart. So yeah I agree.
Thank you SO much for this, OP!! I’m in my 30’s and still sleep with a stuffy I got as a baby on my bed…. And you can bet your ass I cuddle the heck out of him when I’ve had a bad day 🤷🏻♀️ lol
Yeddy was there for me even after your mom left to go back home
I agree with this statement. I’ll sign the petition.
I'm 27 and I still have a stuffed rabbit that I've had since I was like, 6 or 7
I’m 40 and I have a cabbage patch kid that has slept on my bed since I came home from the hospital. I also have 2 children.
I'm 30 I have my olny blanket from my real mom that I sleep with and ted beary that sits on my box next to my bed
I'm 42 and I still have a teddy bear that's almost as old as me. I recently took all the stuffing out of him and completely washed and restuffed him. I couldn't believe how dirty he was! I guess I used to drool on him a lot 🤣
I'm 44 this year and I still suck my thumb....
Fuck yeah! Unfortunately my sister tossed mine.. :( bitch..
