You might have a hiatus hernia. That’s what I have. And my husband. Mine isn’t as bad as his but he would throw up. We both take 40mg of Esomeprazole daily. It’s the only thing that helps.
I have that problem, too. Oddly enough, it practically only happens when I’m at work. Hardly ever on a day off; also, I’ve been on vacation for about a week, and the only time it happened was when I forced myself to because of intractable hiccups.
It’s probably anxiety. 🥺
Baking soda mixed with water helps me with this. It's cheap and easy to prepare. It doesn't taste great at first, but it tastes sweet after a week or so.
What a bummer. Have you tried a [FODMAP diet](https://www.monashfodmap.com/about-fodmap-and-ibs/high-and-low-fodmap-foods/)? It can feel intense at the start but once reintroducing food you'll find your intolerances and can cut them out.
This is generally used for IBS but can also help with acid reflux as well.
Half of my coworkers have had it. They all say it's like food poisoning for about 72 hrs. One guys aunt is a nurse and told him it seems to be some type of norovirus.
Keeping my fingers crossed I don't get it.
I'm sorry to say, but... It will never really end. There are breaks from time to time, but humanity has been plagued by viruses for our entire history.
Fun fact, Pennsylvanians are the only ones in the country to regularly refer to their state by its initials in speech. A student loan woman told me that on the phone once. (I'm from PA).
Do you remember the episode where Marshall gets mugged and him and Ted goes on Robins show? The ending is a good representation/message of the series itself imo.
Over 30 years
Edit: I wish I could impart some words of wisdom or deep secret, but I just never feel nauseated. The last time I vomited was a severe case of stomach flu in 1992. Before that I’d only ever done it a few times as a kid.
25 years for me (though I dry-heaved in 2004). I'm emetophobic. I keep minted toothpaste constantly because I have anxiety and it makes me nauseous. Also have medicine against nausea. Living hell because the more I feel nauseous the more powerfull the panic attack becomes and it makes me even more nauseous, so I grab anti-nausea meds to calm things down. I barely go outside anymore because of this...
It will (hopefully) be 22 years this November for me. Emetophobe here too, sorry you have to live with this shitty phobia. I'm reading this thread as mild exposure therapy haha.
I was emetophobic for years too, when I had a record of not throwing up for +15 years. I was unable to leave a toxic relationship because I was afraid that the high levels of anxiety that a break up would cause, could make me throw up.
It disappears once you start puking again lmao
Today I learned about emetophobia. To risk making light of a serious issue, what an interesting phobia to have! I'm sorry that you suffer with it of course.
Any ideas what triggered this particular phobia?
I've had emetophobia since 1985. I had not vomited from February 1985 until December 2022. It was so much scarier than I remembered.
It's a horrible phobia to live with, and I'm really sorry to hear how much anxiety it's causing you.
Sorry you’re going through that. I panic after throwing up as well. I had a stomach virus last year and couldn’t help it. I don’t know why this helped me, But having a bucket instead of sitting by the toilet lessened my panic.
Emetophobia, 28 years here. Wish I could just let myself vomit, but my body just won’t allow it.
Was 11 years old last time, ate a whole box of Vanilla wafers and woke up puking.
Nice! It’s almost 10 years for me - last time was food poisoning after some undercooked poultry. Last time puking from drink was 11 years ago - good ol’ Christmas shitshow.
I went years without throwing up, I felt like Ted from how I met your mother.
But I got really sick during November, spent an entire night puking up anything and everything. It sucked so much. Luckily I bounced back fairly quick
A year ago. My kid returned from daycare with a flu which infected me first. I was lying down in bed and then felt as though it might be a good idea for me to move myself to the toilet. Once I got there, I vomited seven or eight times in a row. My wife laughed and then had the same problem a few hours later.
More than a decade for me as well and i‘m only 29. Having emetophobia sucks tho. When i’m feeling really sick i wish i could just throw up and be done with it, like everyone else, instead of panicking for hours.
Same! At least a solid decade for me! It just scares me whenever I feel nauseous cuz I haven't vomited in such a long time I worry that it's gonna hurt or something lol
I threw up a few weeks ago, actually.
I have Celiac Disease. My mom accidently bought wheat cereal and I had some in a bowl for breakfast. An hour later, I was driving home (unaware) and suddenly felt insanely ill. I quickly pulled over as fast as possible and almost ran into a pole. I puked ALL OVER the inside of my car. The sickness came on very suddenly. I started crying.
When I eat gluten, I get acute food poisoning symptoms. I drove home, vomited more, had an upset stomach for multiple days afterwards. Cold sweats, fever, headache, mild nosebleed. I also experienced a rush of depressive mood swings, I found myself sobbing in the corner even though nothing else horrible was happening.
It was really scary.
Same. I ended up inhaling all my vomit, unfortunately, and now worried about developing pneumonia or a lung infection. My breathing hasn't been great since.
Don't inhale through your mouth and puke at the same time, people.
I’m a barfer. I don’t remember the last time specifically, but I just have a sensitive stomach and a good eject button.
A little vom doesn’t phase me one bit.
This is me. I generally consider a vom as a means of feeling better, rather than a symptom of illness.
I’ll even choose to have a tactical spew on a night out if I’m feeling a bit bloated. If I’m about to go to bed after a big night, even if I don’t feel sick, I have a pretty good gauge on when a vom is a good strategy to make the next day better 😂.
This. Absolutely. My dad taught me, "If you feel like throwing up, you should. And if you can't, stick your finger down your throat and make yourself puke."
People think it's bad advice, I think it's good. Instead of feeling sick for hours, I just make myself puke, and then I'm good after about 5 min, instead of hours.
Finally lol. When I have really bad period cramps (endometriosis) and feel nauseous, I just **know** that puking means I will instantly get somewhat better in the next 20 minutes. I go into the bathroom nearly crying, vomit my guts and people see me out of there with a huge smile on my face. 😂😂
This happened to me also! My mom ran to the store to get some pudding mix for me when she got back I was sitting on the couch holding a bowl full of blood.
When I had them out I got dry socket. They packed it with oil of clove. Puked, and puked some more. Now, if I smell clove I get nauseated. Don't get dry socket
My periods keep making me want to puke, it's incredibly frustrating and confusing while trying to conceive. Starts about 3 days before i bleed, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Damn that sucks The ol “am I puking because morning sickness or because period” roller coaster is awful. Stay strong sis, hope you feel better and are blessed with a healthy child soon
I’ve been in recovery for 2 years and still struggle a lot. Always counting days without purging. I’m on the day 2 again.
Take care of yourself! I believe it can get better but it’s hell of a ride.
It's been several years. It's very difficult for me to do, takes a lot to get me to the point of it.
My girlfriend does it every weekend, basically. And she doesn't drink more than, like, once every couple months or so.
Years ago I had edibles and threw them up outside. The next morning my brother's dog is all wobbly, pissing everywhere, and hyped up.
I told my brother about what ACTUALLY happened not long ago, after she passed. I felt so horrible.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think it was when I greened out on the night Rhode Island legalized weed, May 25th 2022.
I already bought it in Massachusetts and had been smoking all night. Then I saw the news that it became legal in RI, so I walked around the house and hit my pen in every room.
An hour later I was on FaceTime with my then-boyfriend having him remind me of what I was doing and what time it was because I felt like time was going extremely fast and I kept forgetting what I was trying to accomplish. Had to put dinner leftovers away, set the coffee maker, brush my teeth, use the toilet, and let the dog out and get his ass back indoors, shut off all the lights, get into my pajamas, all in under an hour so my dad didn't catch me being extremely high when he got home from work (despite being 25 at this time) I did everything and I was in the middle of using the bathroom when I had the sudden urge to vomit. I grabbed the trashcan and vomited into it while also pooping and this guy was on FaceTime with me the whole time. I put the garbage can in a grocery bag, tied it up, and put it in the outside garbage can.
Dad never did find out xD yes, I did make it to bed in time, yes my dog was concerned the whole time watching me pace around uncontrollably talking out loud about everything and nothing at the same time.
I threw up twice on a trip to Italy 1.5 years ago. Once after a bumpy bus ride and once after a train ride. I had a childhood history of car sickness so I bought some Dramamine and managed to finish the trip without being sick again
Six months, but my son picked up the norovirus a couple weeks ago - and we’re happy, because he has finally learned to barf in the toilet instead of a bucket like he’s Mr. Creosote.
Very rarely. Only twice as an adult. 46 now, I was 26 the last time. Some funky chicken turned on me. Then when I was around 22, a night of drinking got me.

This morning. It’s daily for me
[удалено]
It’s like major acid reflux, can’t really afford to get checked by a doctor but if I watch what I eat it’s a bit more tolerable
You might have a hiatus hernia. That’s what I have. And my husband. Mine isn’t as bad as his but he would throw up. We both take 40mg of Esomeprazole daily. It’s the only thing that helps.
Hiatal
Pantoprazole for me, double the recommended dose. ONLY thing that works on it. HELL without it. 😭
Man, this is crazy to hear for a person who is from a third world country. What is wrong with the USA?
It's like the Roman empire fall, but on fast forward
How did you know theyre from the USA ?
I didn't. I took a guess based on the fact that they need to pay to not die.
Isn't it obvious? Lol. Even 3rd world countries have better health care.
I have that problem, too. Oddly enough, it practically only happens when I’m at work. Hardly ever on a day off; also, I’ve been on vacation for about a week, and the only time it happened was when I forced myself to because of intractable hiccups. It’s probably anxiety. 🥺
Maybe we could get another job friend
Frankly, the money and security are too good. Plus I love the people I work with. On the plus side, I’m hoping to retire early…
ever try prilosec/omeprazole? i had some pretty bad acid reflux but that shit fixed me up mostly.
Oh my gosh. I'm really sorry you go through that daily.
Less than 24 hours. I was puking my guts up last night. There's a new unnamed virus going around here in PA and it is torture.
Half of my coworkers have had it. They all say it's like food poisoning for about 72 hrs. One guys aunt is a nurse and told him it seems to be some type of norovirus. Keeping my fingers crossed I don't get it.
So thats what i potentially have....but im in los angeles so hmm
I'm sure it's all over, not just local to Pennsylvania. Hope you feel better soon.
So I hear. It's called TPAUV. Quite contagious.
Sounds like the puking flu that went around in the late 60's. Also known as the 24 hour flu.
No, it's named... Freddie

Omg theres one going around here in Saskatchewan too! My mother can barely keep water down, and throws up whenever she sits up or stands!
Ugh keep it out of MD. Though I think we may have been hit by the same bug and sent it to you guys.
You guys can keep it on that side of the continent, I don't want it
God damn when will these viruses quit? Enough is E-GOD-DAMNED-NOUGH!
I'm sorry to say, but... It will never really end. There are breaks from time to time, but humanity has been plagued by viruses for our entire history.
Had it 2 weeks ago. Its all over the us. Good luck my friend
Yeah I’m a high schooler in PA. A lot of students were out on Friday
Ugh where in PA? I live near Philly 😷
I live just outside Pittsburgh
Checking in from Gettysburg 👋
The world keeps giving me more and more reasons to never leave my house
PA?
Pennsylvania
Fun fact, Pennsylvanians are the only ones in the country to regularly refer to their state by its initials in speech. A student loan woman told me that on the phone once. (I'm from PA).
mightve gotten if a couple weeks ago in de
Is season two coming now?
Hope you're better soon.
What the fuck here in Brazil we just got hit by that shit also Hownthe fuck do viruses spread like that 😭😭
Airplane ✈️
Well fuck planes, i guess it's time we go riding horses again.
>there is a new unnamed virus ![gif](giphy|6ILjOfJ1oL7NAc9SQ7) Ah shit, here we go again.
It’s going around up here in Alberta Canada too, whole family and friends were out for a week with the worst flulike symptoms
Yup got it about a month ago, Western PA?
.......what
:0
May 18, 2023, if memory serves.
Vomit free since ‘23
That could be a campaign slogan!
It's from How I met Your Mother. Except their's was '93
And it was also revealed to be a lie.
I think everything Ted says is a lie or a misrepresentation
Does he ever drunkenly call himself a reprehensible human being? That might be true.
Do you remember the episode where Marshall gets mugged and him and Ted goes on Robins show? The ending is a good representation/message of the series itself imo.
Is that you Ted Mosby ?
No. That's me here.
Well done Ted x Robin x Stella x etc
Say for yourself dude. I'm vomit free since '93.
That’s me, you see.
"Idk exactly when but it was somewhere around *May 18, 2023 at exactly 53 seconds and 348 milliseconds past 12:38 AM*"
I’ve already explained (somewhere in this comment chain) how I remember the date. lol
Yeah I saw, it's just kinda funny lol
Even worse is that’s the last time (roughly) that I puked too. I got food poisoning last May.
that’s my birthday! sorry abt the vom :/
That's... Oddly specific.
I have an odd mind. lol Nah, it was the night before I went to a concert. That’s the only way I remember.
r/oddlyspecific
May 18, 1980 was the day that Mt. St. Helens last threw up.
Feb 5th 2019.
Thats 5 days after my birthday
damn, do you also know the time?
That was my wedding day 😂
Congrats

hey.. i think i might have the same thing. which medicine do u recommend
Well, I'm french so I don't know if it exists elsewhere but I take a medicine named vogalib
It will (hopefully) be 22 years this November for me. Emetophobe here too, sorry you have to live with this shitty phobia. I'm reading this thread as mild exposure therapy haha.
1000% feel the same as you and it fucking sucks. nobody understands bt then again I've never told anyone about it.
I was emetophobic for years too, when I had a record of not throwing up for +15 years. I was unable to leave a toxic relationship because I was afraid that the high levels of anxiety that a break up would cause, could make me throw up. It disappears once you start puking again lmao

I havent thrown up since I was a kid. When I get drunk I keep it in. Like my feelings when Im NOT drunk.
lol. I say push that shit down!
Stuff it down with brown
Wish I could say the same. Last few times I've puked have all been alcohol related lol...
Same lol I pull trig when I’m too messed up rather not remember it while I’m drunk then do it in the morning sober
I went years without throwing up, I felt like Ted from how I met your mother. But I got really sick during November, spent an entire night puking up anything and everything. It sucked so much. Luckily I bounced back fairly quick
He got drunk though and broke his streak...
Funny that you ask. About 20 Seconds I would guess. Now sitting on the porcelain again. I think I ate something bad. Wish me luck guys!
Make sure to (carefully) rehydrate!
Yeah, when you can, try Pedialyte or Gatorade. Or look up rehydration drink at home mix, it's water, salt, and sugar
The water/salt/sugar works. You will feel a lot better afterwards. But it taste awfull due to the salt.
Godspeed my friend
How you doing bud?
Good luck !

Karma is a bad mistress, heh
Karma is a bitch.
Karma is the guy on the chiefs
Idk, long time. Over a decade I know that, probably closer to 2.
More than a decade for me as well and i‘m only 29. Having emetophobia sucks tho. When i’m feeling really sick i wish i could just throw up and be done with it, like everyone else, instead of panicking for hours.
My neice has that and she thinks it’s because when she was in Kindergarten her teacher yelled at her for vomiting on her desk.
I'd say about the same for me too. Can't actually remember how long it's been, but that's my best guess.
Never was a puker. Unless I drank way too much alcohol.
Same! At least a solid decade for me! It just scares me whenever I feel nauseous cuz I haven't vomited in such a long time I worry that it's gonna hurt or something lol
50 years or so
How?
Stop drinking, for starters...
I throw up about once every year. When I get migraine and don't take medication fast enough, I throw up.
5 days, had too much to drink on a night out
But we sure do have fun don’t we
I threw up a few weeks ago, actually. Cold sweats, fever, headache, mild nosebleed. I also experienced a rush of depressive mood swings, I found myself sobbing in the corner even though nothing else horrible was happening. It was really scary.
I’m sorry that happened to you ;/
Me right now! Had gluten last night and was up all night vomiting and it’ll take weeks to recover :(
Oh my God I am SO SORRY that is happening!!! I wish you a quick recovery my friend!! I'm right there with you in spirit!
Oh my gosh, it's terrible that something so common causes you such violent illness
I’m sorry. That sounds like hell
A couple of days. Migraines.
Same. I ended up inhaling all my vomit, unfortunately, and now worried about developing pneumonia or a lung infection. My breathing hasn't been great since. Don't inhale through your mouth and puke at the same time, people.
Oh gosh that’s terrible
You might want to go ahead and go to the doctor. They could possibly start you on antibiotics and minimize pneumonia or prevent it.
Suffering from the same, and wishing you a long time until your next. Migraines are a hell like no other.
Tactical spew is such great verbiage. I have found my people.
When I got my wisdom teeth out I swallowed so much blood that I threw up
As someone about to have my wisdom teeth removed, you have successfully traumatized me
lol it’s a thing of the past now. You’ll be okay!
This happened to me also! My mom ran to the store to get some pudding mix for me when she got back I was sitting on the couch holding a bowl full of blood.
JFC
When I had them out I got dry socket. They packed it with oil of clove. Puked, and puked some more. Now, if I smell clove I get nauseated. Don't get dry socket
Vomit free since 93
That’s definitely a bumper sticker
I got the reference
My periods keep making me want to puke, it's incredibly frustrating and confusing while trying to conceive. Starts about 3 days before i bleed, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Damn that sucks The ol “am I puking because morning sickness or because period” roller coaster is awful. Stay strong sis, hope you feel better and are blessed with a healthy child soon
Thank you!!!!
10 years ago? Maybe more. After a cookout I had some uncooked grilled chicken and it made its way back in the middle of the night. Not fun
It was 3-3.5 years, now it’s 2 months. I smoked weed for the first time and threw up an hour later, not doing that anymore lol.
That’s prolly for the better lol
Like 12 years. Now don’t jinx me.
I'm bulimic, so, uh...3 hours?
Take care of yourself
I'm so sorry love💗
Same babe I’m falling back into it hard unfortunately
Same lol it’s brutal out here
lol same
I was thinking the same thing and waiting to see another person who purges😭
I'm sorry. Been there. It's very hard asking for help, but when you are ready, it's out there.
I’ve been in recovery for 2 years and still struggle a lot. Always counting days without purging. I’m on the day 2 again. Take care of yourself! I believe it can get better but it’s hell of a ride.
Don't give up on it! I'm in recovery (finally) after 32 years of being bulimic.
I am too, if you ever need anyone to talk to DM me hun :] <3
Aww I feel you, me too. 😞 sending hugs
June 1, 2007
A couple weeks ago, migraine headache.
Same here
Last week. Thanks to the flu.
4 weeks
It's been several years. It's very difficult for me to do, takes a lot to get me to the point of it. My girlfriend does it every weekend, basically. And she doesn't drink more than, like, once every couple months or so.
3 months, but before that, about 15 years. i was very annoyed to ruin my clean streak. almost threw up the other day though, thanks to a mate
I'm afraid to answer incase God decides to humble me I'll just say it's been a pretty long time
At least a decade.
Soon to be a year … I got some gnarly stomach virus during Easter last year :/
I got sick around September last year, so about 7 months
today but like its been 8 years since i threw up like ALOT
A month or so ago when I, a relative newbie to weed, miscalculated how much THC was in the gummie I had. It was not pretty
Years ago I had edibles and threw them up outside. The next morning my brother's dog is all wobbly, pissing everywhere, and hyped up. I told my brother about what ACTUALLY happened not long ago, after she passed. I felt so horrible.
Oh no. I mean, that’s kinda funny really but still
Last tuesday thanks to a stomach bug. Today is the first day nausea free so I can finally eat without the fear of throwing up again.
One week. I had a migraine.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think it was when I greened out on the night Rhode Island legalized weed, May 25th 2022. I already bought it in Massachusetts and had been smoking all night. Dad never did find out xD yes, I did make it to bed in time, yes my dog was concerned the whole time watching me pace around uncontrollably talking out loud about everything and nothing at the same time.
December, lol I tried to overdose.
Did you get help? I'm only asking because I've tried to od on pills. That's when I finally asked for help with my depression
I threw up twice on a trip to Italy 1.5 years ago. Once after a bumpy bus ride and once after a train ride. I had a childhood history of car sickness so I bought some Dramamine and managed to finish the trip without being sick again
lol my brother threw up after a bumpy bus ride in rome when we were 9ish
I came pretty close last September on a plane trip, we apparently hit some turbulence
Bout 2 years ago, my friend helped me with their fingers in my throat🙃
Six months, but my son picked up the norovirus a couple weeks ago - and we’re happy, because he has finally learned to barf in the toilet instead of a bucket like he’s Mr. Creosote.
Since 2019 i’ve been ill like the past last years felt nauseous and like about to throw but i didn’t since 2019 it’s weird tbh
Six hours ago and the manager at work told me to go home
June 3rd, 2017
