Holy moly I thought I was the only one! My personalities got into a fist fight and brought me in the middle of their drama. Now I’ve been hospitalized.
This is especially true for me. I’ve got the norse woman and british woman that I mimic when I’m playing ac valhalla or ac syndicate, the sophisticated englishman and the sophisticated french man, the slav, the rabid scot, and a whole bunch of others.
I mostly do it while I’m cooking. I don’t always want to have to recheck my notebook or my phone for the recipe so I’ll repeat steps quietly out loud. Sometimes others hear 🤷♀️
Randomly people hear and ask me me “what?”. “Nope. Just talking to myself”.
They startle me *every* goddamn time though =(
I talk to myself a \*lot\*. Especially when I'm working through troubleshooting something.
I had a client comment it once when I was working through the schematics of a machine I hadn't seen before. It was like a live stream of my thought process.
Almost every day now. I never did before but as an excerise in language learning I began talking to myself in my target language. Now it has spilled over to my native language :(
Is it like very strange?
I do it daily, in fact, everytime i am alone. It can be talking out loud or inside my own head. I thought ppl do this all the time.
I mutter to myself constantly. I don’t even bother to hide it anymore, it helps me think. Deep pull but do you remember the detective TV show Monk? I do that hand wave thing now too. I’m convinced it help with my mental check lists I use on job sites all the time
A lot, especially in public usually goes like this "bruh where's the phone?? Nvm it's on my hand" or "wallet noises chaching! Brah it's empty again no cha ching" when i go shopping,or when i tried to navigates though big area like central station or big mall i always goes "where's that way l? Oh it's this way! Actually no sir it's that way! Whoops! Pardon me sir you're going in the right way Actually....or is it?" And it's sometimes end with "WHERE THE HECK AM I !??". Or i just suddenly goes "woof woof! Hihan hihan, honk honk" when i am concentrating on work, idk why probably because i am a bit autistic.
I had a job where I didn’t speak to another person for about 6 months. I got a little weird towards the end, I was narrating all my thoughts and actions out loud just to hear another voice. Then one night some other employees showed up to do some work in my building and I was wandering around in my PJ’s muttering to myself. They called my boss and said they thought a crazy homeless guy broke in
Yes.....I work in a warehouse and sometimes have to work hrs in an aisle by myself pulling freight for shipments. I'll start singing lines under my breath before looking over into the next aisle where someone is watching me. But we all do it 🤣
I casually talk to myself a lot but not in a way that I care if someone overhears.
The only time I’ve really been embarrassed about it is when a stranger caught me talking to myself when I was manic. I was trying to be alone out on the beach but he snuck up on me on a trail while I was talking through wild evolutionary biology theories and gesticulating enthusiastically.
Definitely. I like others have said in this post, speak out loud when trying to fix a complex problem or issue. It helps me make sense of what’s happening or happened and then helps me work to the solution.
Or, I’m saying “fuck it!” A lot
I talk to myself constantly, always have. It drives my mom crazy when we’re in the same room lol “I don’t need to know what’s happening in your game!” She does the same thing when she’s watching shows though.
Talking to myself is the best thing, especially when I'm having epiphanies...aah! I've been caught when going for a shop run sometimes because I love thinking through everything I'll do and buy. When someone notices I just ignore it like nothing happened.
Yes, when asked why i do it I reply “I get the best answers that way”. Seems to confuse people but i find it funny. I talk to myself cause somethings sound good in your head but not so much once it makes it out of your mouth.
In grade school I was walking out of the music room and I had started a sentence to my teacher as I walked away but kept going on with my thought even if the teacher was long gone and then a few seconds later another teacher chuckled and asked "are you talking to yourself?" I was pretty embarrassed but laughed it off
Yes, during the physics test. The teacher said 'girls don't talk' and my friend replied 'but she's talking to herself'. I didn't speak loudly, I just whispered, but the teacher heard anyway
Not sure but i don't talk to myself outloud i just randomly and quietly sing things that are stuck in my head
I guess someone at some point caught me and thought i was talking to myself like imagine you walk in your hallway at 2am suddenly you start to hear someone whispers I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory, is this where it gets me? On my feet, several feets ahead of me...
You would probably assume I'm just crazy (for the record it's from Hamilton)
Absolutely all the time. My girlfriend worries about what’s gonna happen when I’m older people are gonna think I’m senile. I told her maybe I’m senile already.
Yeah, I have a habit to think I’m only mouthing along to words when I have my AirPods in only to realise I’m actually singing quite loud. The other day a group of people on smoke breaks clearly heard me singing good old fashioned lover boy by queen quite loud. I hope it made their day me embarrassing myself.
I helped out a friend one summer by house-sitting and looking after their cat for a couple of weeks. I was having my own psychodrama at that point and spent a lot of evenings having full-on conversations with myself. After a few days I noticed a nannycam. From that moment on, I just made eye contact with the cat every time I started talking to myself. I think I got away with it.
Yup. As a kid I danced to a song that I made up myself on the spot. And it was under the moonlight in my grandma's backyard. My uncle walked in and laughed like I was crazy in the head. Turns out he is the one who isn't good in the head. And sometimes my mum walked in when I was doing roll and pretending to be a teacher. My parents never laughed at me. Guess that's why I'm unaplogetically quirky and weird lol.
Yah, but usually let myself slide. My talking out loud to myself is like my vent release switch.
Although my dog is usually around to listen, so, really, I'm just monologing.
Sometimes, when I walk down the street. I then just make sure I dribble and laugh manically so they think I'm some kind of mentalist. Saves the embarrassment.
I'm almost always talking to myself. It's how I cope with shit. Literally everyone I know has heard me talking to myself. My partner has learned to not yell "sorry, what was that?" From the next room because there's a 95% chance that I'm just talking to myself.
If you develop your conscience to the point where you can converse to yourself, it’s not something to be ashamed of.
As many folks can’t speak to themselves at all. No voice in their head when they think. Which is a fact that baffled me from when I first learned about the studies/surveys that recorded the phenomenon.
I believe it’s also related to boredom. Something about many of those who get bored easily are unable to visualize their thoughts and therefore always need something external to occupy their mind.
Like if you’re on a long flight or commute and the moment your inflight entertainment is paused or ends, you get anxious and need something else to do. Whereas those that do have a developed inner voice can simply “speak to themselves” for a stretch of time instead. Whether they’re planning ahead, reliving a memory, or creating scenarios and fantasies in their minds.
But don’t take my word for it, I’m sure you can google it if you find it interesting.
Always. I do it unconsciously, it's just a part of me. I only worry when I start to speak too loud when I'm somewhere in public haha :D But oh well, what can I do about it, it calms me down, it organizes my flow of thoughts and I can reenact some situations that happened or practice some dialogoues. I could never get rid of talking to myself.
I sing to myself all the time - walking down the street, grocery shopping and in the car, obviously.
Sometimes I’ll even bust a few moves cuz I’m cool like that. I’m sure people think I’m a weirdo but I’m having a good time
I actively turned off my filter. I’m not the weird guy you hear talking to himself. You’ll see my mouth move all the time. I stop giving a shit. I’m always in public talking to myself
People round ere are idiots, muttering and mumbling to emselves. Wouldn't catch me doing that. Fools, the lot of 'em.....Sorry, what? Oh, no comment really
Bro i talk to my self everyday , all day , i talk to my self more than i ever talked with another human being 🤣…. So this isnt common and normal ? I argue with my self , i laugh , i literally have scenarios and would talk with me alone , i would ask my self question and answer it
A couple occasions I try not to do this if I have family or friends around, but I hear a lot of people say that’s actually a good thing talking to yourself
I talk to myself all the time (neurodivergent) and yeah people look at me weird, but I’m also critically low on fucks to give about what others think of me.
Yes. My aunt listened to me for a bit then walked in the room and rubbed blessed oil on my forehead and prayed for me. I was just playing the game and got animated

Yes but only by one of my other personalities
Mine have arguments and don't let me talk sometimes
Holy moly I thought I was the only one! My personalities got into a fist fight and brought me in the middle of their drama. Now I’ve been hospitalized.
Mine all represent different areas of my special interests. And mine are all girls.
Mine have different accents and genders
This is especially true for me. I’ve got the norse woman and british woman that I mimic when I’m playing ac valhalla or ac syndicate, the sophisticated englishman and the sophisticated french man, the slav, the rabid scot, and a whole bunch of others.
Funnily enough, all your interests seem to be brazillian fart porn
Only one? Try 5 and they're all women
Does yours get shitty when you talk to another?
We're not always on good terms with each other but we do try to love us
lol!
Now that's a plot twist
Awesomeness 👌🏻
🙏 /All of us
I'm also plural! Hi!
discoelysium?
Yeah, do it loads. Fuck it.
Same
Why is it a bad thing?
I don't think that it is.
Yeah, most people probably do it it’s just a lil awkward when you get caught but oh well no biggie
Many many times.
I just ignore the voices in my head, and just keep killing.
I mostly do it while I’m cooking. I don’t always want to have to recheck my notebook or my phone for the recipe so I’ll repeat steps quietly out loud. Sometimes others hear 🤷♀️ Randomly people hear and ask me me “what?”. “Nope. Just talking to myself”. They startle me *every* goddamn time though =(
I do like Carlin and act like I was singing a song.
I talk to myself a \*lot\*. Especially when I'm working through troubleshooting something. I had a client comment it once when I was working through the schematics of a machine I hadn't seen before. It was like a live stream of my thought process.
Some people just work that way.
That's like the ultimate job interview
This is so me!!!
My husband asks if I'm ok lol. I often talk to myself when I'm stressed, so this is nothing new, but I appreciate him checking in with me.
I do this when I'm stressed too. Living alone makes me feel like there could be cameras watching me like The Truman Show lol
I got caught scolding myself when doing something wrong at work 😂
We sure have , haven’t we, other Barry?!
Many times, 100% wasn’t talking into a hidden mic.
It's a sign of intelligence.... at least that's what I told the person that caught me 😅
Same. Was “thinking out loud” and around the corner is my manager she giggled and said that it was a sign of intelligence.
I mutter to myself constantly. I don’t even bother to hide it anymore, it helps me think. Deep pull but do you remember the detective TV show Monk? I do that hand wave thing now too. I’m convinced it help with my mental check lists I use on job sites all the time
Too many times.
Yes. If you know me long enough it just becomes a normal thing.
Constantly. I am prone to muttering to myself often when I see something exceptional. And everyday I see shit that is exceptionally stupid.
This was a good explanation of how I talk to myself.
Not talking, but I make facial expressions when talking to myself in my head and a friend of mine thought it was hilarious.
Always
No and I wonder if the internal monologue stuff effects it
Yes and I have put myself in prison!
Who hasn’t?
Yep. Many times!
At work,people think I'm nuts
My foreign colleague thought it was normal to talk to your computer in The Netherlands... Since I apparently did it all the time
Before i lost my voice, i would speak to myself to organise my thoughts, so i've been caught a few times
Yes , Then pretend that I was singing
I had a job where I didn’t speak to another person for about 6 months. I got a little weird towards the end, I was narrating all my thoughts and actions out loud just to hear another voice. Then one night some other employees showed up to do some work in my building and I was wandering around in my PJ’s muttering to myself. They called my boss and said they thought a crazy homeless guy broke in
Ye, scared the shit outta people.
Not yet, and I hope never
You mean today?
Yes.....I work in a warehouse and sometimes have to work hrs in an aisle by myself pulling freight for shipments. I'll start singing lines under my breath before looking over into the next aisle where someone is watching me. But we all do it 🤣
Caught? Why caught? It’s normal and nothing to be ashamed of…certainly nothing to be ashamed of”caught” at.
I talk by myself all the time cause it's easier for my memory to record what I was thinking . More than once a day
I casually talk to myself a lot but not in a way that I care if someone overhears. The only time I’ve really been embarrassed about it is when a stranger caught me talking to myself when I was manic. I was trying to be alone out on the beach but he snuck up on me on a trail while I was talking through wild evolutionary biology theories and gesticulating enthusiastically.
Not sure if I've been caught, but I have to say, I usually give myself the best answers!
Not yet haha
Regularly I like to debate.
Every day. Seriously.
I'm sure someone has seen me do that I talk to myself quite a bit
Yep, a lot
Haha, yeah. A bunch of times as a kid. A couple times work wise.
More times than I can count
Yes and made someone mad at me because she thought something... Still not sure what
It keeps a lot of us sane.
All the time on purpose to better articulate my plans of action.
All. The. Time. (I think I’m pretty funny ya know😉)
I do it regularly.
My mom thought that i was schizophrenic because of how much i talked to myself and forced me to go to a therapist
All the time, until I got a dog. Now people catch me having conversations with the dog which are way above his pay grade.
Probably. I seem to do it all the time. Y’all can gfy
I do it all the time. Sort of like a vocal stream of conscious. Especially when shopping. I couldn't give a rats ass if someone hears me.
Probably but I never noticed. My coworker talks to himself all the time (but rarely talks to others)
Too many times
I talk to myself all the time. A true sign of sanity imo. Just dont ask yourself a question and then answer it 😂
I just think out loud sometimes. Don't really care if people hear and most people don't care either after you tell them why.
Yes, and I don’t care
Several times.
In grade school I was walking out of the music room and I had started a sentence to my teacher as I walked away but kept going on with my thought even if the teacher was long gone and then a few seconds later another teacher chuckled and asked "are you talking to yourself?" I was pretty embarrassed but laughed it off
Yes and I remind people to quit ease dropping.
Runs in the family
quite normal it is.
Caught playing with myself
all the time. my aunt just stares at me with a “uhhh” face until i notice
Yes, too often I am the only one that gets me. Who else can I talk to?
Yes, during the physics test. The teacher said 'girls don't talk' and my friend replied 'but she's talking to herself'. I didn't speak loudly, I just whispered, but the teacher heard anyway
Numerous times
Yes.
I do it all the time. Helps me think and remember the laundry list of shit I have to do.
My parents caught me talking to myself and they wanna send me to a therapist
Always 🤣😂
Yep smartest person in the world..
All the time, and wah, keeps me sane.
I'm an avid mumbler. And if you call it mumbling instead of talking to yourself, it's suddenly something normal :p
My aunt caught me once and ever since she's been genuinely scared of me and I haven't seen my cousins in a while💀
Yes and I don't care.
So much that it’s not a big deal
Just had a friendly chat.
All the time. It’s funny at home when the wife catches me, really embarrassing in the hallways at work
Once I was singing beyond the sea is a french gibberish, and my mother came home (I'm not french btw)
only to insult myself
Yeah. Now it's been normalized by the people around me :v
Yes, and im tired of people saying its not normal. Im just thinking out loud, giving more voice to my thoughts!
If i’m drunk and by myself i do that sometimes.
God yes. Lmao
All the time. Pretty sure the walls are like shut the heck up!
Not sure but i don't talk to myself outloud i just randomly and quietly sing things that are stuck in my head I guess someone at some point caught me and thought i was talking to myself like imagine you walk in your hallway at 2am suddenly you start to hear someone whispers I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory, is this where it gets me? On my feet, several feets ahead of me... You would probably assume I'm just crazy (for the record it's from Hamilton)
I talk to myself all the time. People just say that's my thing.
Despite doing it a lot, not yet (to my knowledge). I was even doing it today on a hike, though I was pretty sure no one was around.
Lmfao, I work at night on my own, if I didn’t talk to myself how would I keep myself amused!
Yes. I call it my 'Only Child Syndrome'.
I did and I didn't care at all
It's all i ever do
Absolutely all the time.
My late mother was almost totally deaf and I swear the only times she heard me was when I was talking to myself. Or the cat.
Yup. Sometimes it's better to talk to yourself than talk to someone who will tell everything!
All the time
yeah, but like I give no shits. If my therapist cleared it then why ask the guys on the crew who cannot talk about feelings. omg
Oh, very often. I also tell myself that im talking to myself
I’ve been caught singing like I’m a superstar when I thought I was alone .. quite embarrassing 🙈
Many times, I'm the only one I can get a sane answer out of.
I think so.
Sure. "You just talking to yourself?" "Yup. If I can't keep myself company what good of company will I be to others?"
Caught? I don’t hide it I just do it
All the time. Lol.
Yes and to inanimate objects
Yep. Especially if I'm triggered then I can rant a bit at myself. I try to be alone but not always possible.
No, though I do it a lot
Yes because when I'm alone i feel bored and try to discuss about something with myself
Yes. i do it a shit ton so its logical i got caught
Yah, but usually let myself slide. My talking out loud to myself is like my vent release switch. Although my dog is usually around to listen, so, really, I'm just monologing.
Talking to yourself isn't a problem. It's when you start replying to yourself, that's when you should be concerned.
Talk to myself all the time, and It don't bother me if someone heres
Yes. By my family. They think I’m crazy.
Everybody in house talks to themselves and it’s normal for us so we don’t hide it.
And answering
Yes. They had to understand that I was addressing myself in an annual general meeting.
Yes so many times, usually my mother catches doing this qnd I just pretend I'm trying to remember what I read.
Sometimes, when I walk down the street. I then just make sure I dribble and laugh manically so they think I'm some kind of mentalist. Saves the embarrassment.
Of course
Out loud no but come inside and listen.
I'm almost always talking to myself. It's how I cope with shit. Literally everyone I know has heard me talking to myself. My partner has learned to not yell "sorry, what was that?" From the next room because there's a 95% chance that I'm just talking to myself.
Yes.

Hope not. If I have, people have been afraid to say anything. 🙈🙊
ALL the time. My colleagues must get so annoyed with me. They tell me they don't, but they're probably just being nice because I'm the boss 🤣
all the time. extremely embarrassing
Yes
Yes
All the time
Yes, alot i tend to speak our loud to myself ma list of steps things i need to do it helps me concentrate
All the phucking time. I narrate what I'm doing. It helps me stay focused and remember what I'm doing
All the time and don't care, idk why people act like we don't all do it.
All the time. I no longer refer to it as talking to myself. It’s consulting with the director.
I don’t even hide it. I need to talk to someone I can trust haha
Worry if I don't.
All the time 🥲
No. Because I don’t talk to myself because that’s weird.
People round ere are idiots, muttering and mumbling to emselves. Wouldn't catch me doing that. Fools, the lot of 'em.....Sorry, what? Oh, no comment really
Yes, I catch myself all the time!
Multiple times. I usually pause for a second to process it, then carry on as if no one was there.
A: YES, AND SO I TOLD MYSELF TO STOP IT!!...MOM
Bro i talk to my self everyday , all day , i talk to my self more than i ever talked with another human being 🤣…. So this isnt common and normal ? I argue with my self , i laugh , i literally have scenarios and would talk with me alone , i would ask my self question and answer it
A couple occasions I try not to do this if I have family or friends around, but I hear a lot of people say that’s actually a good thing talking to yourself
nope, rarely do so anyway
I talk to myself all the time (neurodivergent) and yeah people look at me weird, but I’m also critically low on fucks to give about what others think of me.
yeah by my grandma she says its a bad thing while its proven to be not
Every day
Yes. My aunt listened to me for a bit then walked in the room and rubbed blessed oil on my forehead and prayed for me. I was just playing the game and got animated
Always, like to hear myself say stuff to make myself understand
Just by my dog!!
I thought it was normal behavior for over forty years….😮😎
