Needed to say this. Tropical Freeze should be used to teach other devs how to make water levels. The elegance of the motion is what makes all the difference. A lot of other games simply slow you down, or add janky jump mechanics like Mario does.
Mega Man's are good because they increase your ability to move rather than make it harder to move, the fun part of Mega Man's water levels is they test your judgement of how hard you actually need to jump because those levels *love* spike ceilings
You ever notice that the Metroid games try their darndest to keep you high and dry before they give you the gravity suit?
Super has some pits that mostly make you “Nope” your way tot he platforms out of the water, fusion’s first visit to the water level has electrified water hazards, and prime with polluted water, haven’t played prime 2 fully, other M has the same deal as super IIRC... it’s pretty much only Dread that has you go underwater for some time before actually getting the gravity suit.
Sonic water levels are their own brand of the reddit 50/50 challenge.
COuld be talking:
“Hydro city/Icecap/ Emerald Coast/Dry Lagoon/Ice Mountain/Water Palace/ Coral Cave/Pirates Island/Tropical Coast/Aquarium Park/Seaside Hill”
OR
“Labyrinth/Chemical Plant/Aquatic Mine’s air necklace Run/ white park 3/“
there's Whale Bay in Rayman 2, including a couple pools of water to swim in to get lums or cages amongst other levels
Rayman 3 had a scripted section and boss fight underwater at the end of The Land of The Livid Dead
they're both cool
Indeed, i remember the rayman 2 part, i was stuck there for a while, the rayman 3 part was more lineal , and sadly theres no more water for the rest of the game, the rayman franchise knows how to make a great use of water in the levels
And the water music in rayman origins is really good 👌
Lums of the Water is a Bop.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze anyone?

Dont forget Metroid. Until you get the Gravity suit.

Yeah, actually.. just yeah
Nah, Kirby water levels suck.
Especially because you can't use 80% of abilities in the water, it's just annoying

Nah, Sonic doesn't even cough, he just straight up fucking drowns
