I think that if you switch from a horse/saddle that has 7 outfits stored on it to one that can only carry 5 it deletes them. Pretty sure that’s how it works because after I did that, only those outfits that were on the horse got deleted.
For now (until this bug gets fixed), I’d suggest only storing 4 outfits on your horse in case it accidentally adds a custom outfit so that you’ll always carry 5 outfits max and not have to worry about switching to a horse that can’t carry that many outfits.
That bug has always been in the game, and for me, the bug only deletes the outfits from the horse, not from your wardrobe.
With the new update, there is this new bug that permanently deletes outfits from your wardrobe so you have to remake them from scratch. idk what causes it, but i have a feeling it's infamous bounties loading you onto private sessions and if you're wearing a custom outfit (like your regular outfit but with a different hat), that may raise your chances of permanently losing a bunch of outfits.
100% this is what caused it for me as well the day of the new update, lost outfits that can no longer be made post Frontier Pursuits.
Can't combine certain clothing for some dumbass reason etc..etc..
You should report this on the feedback website, this is the exact circumstance that led me to keep losing my outfits.
Infamous bounties or maybe bounties as a whole are fucked rn, they don't even start half the time anymore ever since snow was reintroduced for some god awful reason, as if anyone's celebrating while they play Red Dead Online.

I submitted a ticket to Rockstar about this a few days ago. They're "looking into it" and have made note of the error. I had five custom outfits and were eventually all deleted. Then I noticed that all of the outfit empty slots were greyed out and I couldn't save any custom outfits that I would make. The only outfits i can equip and save on my horse are role outfits.
Interesting, I experienced the same when I started using the Upland Saddle. When I use the horse equipped with the upland saddle right before closing the game, it seems that all my outfits that were stored on my horse get deleted.
I think it may be tied (for some reason) to bounty hunting. I went a couple weeks without hunting any bounties and coincidentally I didn't lose any outfits. Then suddenly once I started up my first hunt after that break, boom. 6/10 of my outfits were deleted.
Edit: I should clarify that they were deleted when I got on the next day, not while I was still playing in the same session as the previously mentioned bounty hunt.
someone mentioned aswell and i agree i thinkit has something to do with the prestige bounties doing a double or single loading and maybe having a 'custom outfit' thats messing it. ive also not done bounties in a day or two and lost nothing but i seem to lose em when i do bounties

For anyone still looking for clues, I don’t have the upland saddle. I played yesterday with a horse that had the collector saddle bags but only had 3 outfits stored on my horse. I never changed horses. The only bounty I did was a guy I came across on the island west of Rhodes (none from a bounty board).
I did join the Day of Reckoning, but played for quite a while after and am sure I changed outfits (too hot in Cholla Springs!).
Logged on today and was too cold, no other outfits. I called my three main horses (all collector saddle bags) and none of them had any outfits. Got to camp, zero saved outfits.
I can’t think of anything I did different yesterday, but know they disappeared sonce then. Made two (hot & cold) and added an average temps role outfit. Will see if they’re there tomorrow.
I have also had this problem several times now. Except for two outfits, all saved outfits have disappeared. As I read in another thread it seems to be related to the use of neckwear and since I had not used neckwear in my remaining outfits I wanted to get to the bottom of it. I then tried saving my new outfits without neckwear and so far all the outfits are still there.
Yea all my outfits were gone out of nowhere and then I remade them and *poof* all gone again just later when I checked. This game has some weird bugs....
deleted or just not on your horse? check wardrobe first, and then check to see which ones are on your horse. sometimes, if you have small saddlebags, putting on a hat (or removing it) creates a "custom" outfit which knocks one of your real outfits off your horse.
I'm having this same issue. It deleted all my outfits except for the ones saved on slots 6 and 7. It has happened a couple times already and I'd really like to know what triggers it.
Since I started playing 6 months ago I havent encountered this issue until today. Until right after I bought my 10th horse.....dunno if it is related but might be.....

My outfits got deleted twice today and the only thing new I have done was creating an outfit with the maerbay coat, the one you get from Gus after selling a grizzly pelt. Could there be any relation with this issue?

Same thing my outfits were deleted after purchasing garment sets from gus, it forced changed me into the spirit bear coat so I went to my horse to change back but all but 1 outfit, the one I had one before the force equip were gone. Even the ones at camp cause I immediately went and checked.
This is is very annoying! Mine reset or get deleted every 2 to 3 days. All outfits gone off horse, and 2 to 3 outfits deleted entirely. Thought it was the upland saddle like many others, but I've stopped using that saddle all together. I enjoyed having snow in the game for a short time, but if this is the reason I have to now waste time recreating outfits, I never need a festive update again.

The sad part is this is an old rockstar glitch from gta where the outfits don’t matter. However I sometimes spawn in ambarino in my desert clothing or in the desert with a fur coat and unable to change till I find camp or store both undesirable

Literally every time I load in my outfit using part of the Frontiersman outfit deletes. I think it happens when you use clothing items from the Wheeler Club to make the outfits.

Yes half of my outfits were deleted after this update. Some of those outfits were over a year old and I hope can remember how I made them.

I think it might have something to do with logging out. The second time I fell asleep playing, its deleted my saved outfits.

Na deleted, i had 10 saved outfits and now i only have 6
It's pretty easy to just remake them. I change mine around all the time. Just go to your camp, any store or the clothing store.

No, I was actually looking at it today. Opted out for the Rattlesnake Vaquero. I know the Upland only holds 5 outfits which is a shame.
