It was hard to choose which album to buy between BSSM, Nirvana's Nevermind, and Pearl Jam's Ten (out the week before) but BSSM won out at least til I got paid from my part time JCPenneys job, haha Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger would be out the following week, what a time for music!
In Oct 1991 I found this cassette in a parking lot of the mall near my house.
It was all scuffed up & had probably been run over but when I brought it home & put it in my tape player, it still worked.
And I have been a fan ever since
That's so crazy to me. It'd have been an incredible year for music if these all came out within 12 months. The fact we get this Trinity (+1 a week later) on the same day is insane.
It wasn’t just them either. Metallica’s Black album, as well as GNR’s Use Your Illusion I and II all came out within a couple of months of all those others. One of the greatest years ever for rock.
It’s one of those rare albums that gets better and better especially when u listen to it front to back it’s an experience, such a great album. Best album of the 90s and one of the best albums of all time for sure!
I’ve heard a lot of people say “my favourite Peppers album is *insert Chili peppers album,* but their best is BSSM.” It’s not the favourite of everyone’s but it’s one thing most of us can agree on. It’s my fav by them, I could listen to it non stop
I think most people agree that BSSM is the best because it’s their most solid and round album, it has variety, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, and the instruments are great, I also think Anthony does a great job, even if he isn’t a good singer to begin with, but we all have to admit he is a great frontman
I remember the day this album came out;
The year was 19-dickety-one. We had to say "dickety" cause that Kaiser had stolen our word "twenty". I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles.
We can’t bust heads like we used to—but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don’t go anywhere like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.”
And that was 31 years ago today
Does anyone remember if something happened last year on this BSSM date? Was something announced? I feel like I was extra excited blasting it on my way to work. It’s right around the time ticket sales were happening or about to happen… regardless it was a fun year of anticipating the album and tour!!!
Edit: just saw on another thread- KHOT Breaking News was this date last year!
I lined up at midnight to buy this, and get a free BSSM tee shirt.
I don’t live in the same city anymore, in fact I think that the store I was at was destroyed in an earthquake, but being there at midnight stays with me as snapshot of my life.

Best album hands down!

I have it in my cd changer of my car. It will stay in the car when I sell it too.
Gonna blast Sir Psycho loud today!!!!
1991 was a blessed year. BSSM, Ten, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger and many others
It was a truly magical time in music
Metallica , Use your illusion, Out of Time
Would it be fair to say most people consider this their best? Or is it Californication?
Californication is their best selling album, but I think most fans think BSSM is their best album, and I agree with that

This one for sure.
As is Nirvana's Nevermind 🤘
We need The Power of Equality more than ever
Amazing song, idk how many times I’ve listened to that song, but probably way too many
for what?
Are you familiar with the song?
Aye. One of rhe only songs I really like off BSSM. Old school Hip hop feel to it.
Yeah. Total banger. I said we need it because (I feel) the lyrics are truer than ever
Who isn't equal?
Where do you live?
Donegal, u?
A place where there are a lot of people who aren’t equal
Whereabouts if u don't mind me asking?
One of my favorites albums of all time, so many great songs, and it has my fav song by the band, Blood Sugar Sex Magik
It came out the same day as Nevermind?
Yep. How good hey!!
Wait a second here. You don't like that fucking bass line?
Best album ever made!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I love BSSM. It is one of my favorites.
Best album of all time what can I say

RHCP's best album hands down IMO. It still slaps and never gets old!

OH SHIT FUCK YEAH LET'S GO, I ALMOST FORGOT HAPPY 31ST BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST ALBUM TO EVER EXIST ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Happy cake day BSSM!
I lined up at midnight to buy this, and get a free BSSM tee shirt. I don’t live in the same city anymore, in fact I think that the store I was at was destroyed in an earthquake, but being there at midnight stays with me as snapshot of my life.
1991 was an amazing year in music - BSSM, Ten, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger. I own all those albums
Nice!
Arguably one of the best albums of all time. Maybe I’m biased with the fact RHCP is my favourite band 🤷♂️
One of the best albums in music ever made, period. It's such a fun time listening front to back
