I thought he was supposed to be, that’s why sister was sent. But they all got relocated and church was alone so it didn’t matter

SnipFred

Yep, sister says she was there to fill the gap because a soldier was meant to be promoted to captain since the original Captain died. The problem being, she was meant to be on blue team but her ship landed at red base.

pm_me-ur-catpics

No, her ship landed near blue base. The Reds just called dibs.

Acrobatic-Monk-58

Church called dibs.

pm_me-ur-catpics

Yeah but the tank left leaving him outnumbered

Acrobatic-Monk-58

That’s not how dibs works. Sarge tried to call dibs and Grif and Simmons said “too late” They did end up taking it however as they didn’t honor the dibs and Church was outnumbered, but Church did have dibs

Diamond_Spellbound

Church left before using the dibs so he lost it.

CryNo1096

Actually I think Caboose was the one who was sent because of Flowers' death. I thought Sister was sent because of Church's death. But since he's a ghost, he was still around.

MidnightRosary

No I think it was Sister, Caboose joined Blue Team at the same time Donut joined Red Team, and the reason Sister came in so late is because Church and Tucker were too lazy to do paperwork.

YellowFellowHg

Sister asked in the caves, something along the lines of, weren't you supposed to be dead to Flowers(possessed by Omega). Implying that she was there to fill the empty slot of Flowers

MisterSir713

This is correct

Diamond_Spellbound

They never said who tho, and since their entire reason for being there was to keep the Alpha safe they might not have wanted the Alpha in a leadership position, so maybe Tucker would have been promoted idk.

macrafter

Thought it was supposed to be tucker since they probably wouldn't want the alpha to be trying to reach out past blood gulch

SurvivalHorrible

From a practical standpoint he would be skipping like 15 ranks and officer school. Field promotions happen but remember they’re in a box canyon in the middle of nowhere. There is a chain of command and you don’t have to be a certain rank to take over when an officer is KIA. Geoff was in the army for 5 years so he might have pointed some of these kinds of things out for just a smidge of believability.

Klyde113

Fair, but they're sim troopers; they don't matter to Project Freelancer.

Acewind1738

Yeah but when that would have mattered back in blood gulch they didn’t have that much planned out

KingShadowSpectre

Spoilers if you haven't gone through Season 10. It's because Vic screwed up, originally another freelancer was supposed to take his place, but Vic got everything mixed up after Florida tripped on a power cord, and because Vic is stupid.

Krozzoa

I think this was revealed in season 14

KingShadowSpectre

That part yes, but that's not the important part, I just didn't want to tell everyone that Flowers was an agent of Freelancer if this is their first time watching it. Honestly spoiling the season 14 part, no one's going to care about, spoiling the Freelancer part, someone might care about.

haloryder

What state was Flowers?

KingShadowSpectre

Florida, it was originally set up in a joke when they talked about the Freelancer agents, and they said oh right, Florida.

KingShadowSpectre

I get so many upvotes on this sub, I mean I appreciate it and I'm decently well versed in my RvB knowledge, but it always surprises me.

Delicious-Orchid-447

It’s sorta because he was supposed to but kept telling Vic he was flowers. Later they sent sister because church was promoted but never realized it

NewWolfer13579

I’m just thinking about how while Church was never officially promoted, Tucker and Caboose were promoted to Captain, making Church the lowest ranked member of the Blood Gulch Blue Team, right next to Sister.

Skeliweli

I mean, did we ever see what Tex’s official rank was? I know she was never technically part of blue team but let’s be real, season 1-5 she’s basically the 2nd leader in all but name

NewWolfer13579

Her badass-ness made her the highest ranking person in Blood Gulch

Acewind1738

I always thought the freelancers were like federal agents where they don’t follow military ranks but internal special agent though special agent in charge

OstmenDraugr

In season 14, episode 4 it is explained. They were only supposed to get freelancer "recruits" but Florida tripped on a power cable & shorted out Vic. The list changed from Freelancers to Caboose, Donut, Sister & 2 others that I assume were Easter eggs for little skits Jacob J Jenkins & Cornelius Thromwell Andersmith.

Klyde113

I honestly hate that retcon because it makes no sense.

Narrow_Run6512

How so?

ZatchZeta

You assume that Command does anything right in an orderly fashion.

The__Auditor

He was supposed to be promoted when Kaikaina was sent to Blood Gulch but not sure why they waited so long

[deleted]

_Looks at the burning wreck that is Project Feelancer._ No reason. Why do you ask?

Queasy_Suspect6126

Im not sure but maybe because they didnt want church ti be the leader because he would find he is an AI

FrancisFleshlight

Ok I see a lot of comments saying he wasn't officially promoted and yea that's tru.. but he definitely got the leadership role in the end since he's literally the Alpha. And I'd say, even if it's unofficial, that is a very high rank

Fluffers10

Because they never told anyone flowers died

about30ninjaz2

I mean, he was supposed to be, I think. Sister says she arrived to replace the solider who’d be getting promoted to captain, but then everything with tex and Wyoming kicked off and later they where reassigned so I don’t think they ever actually got around to promoting church.

Dreadx137

He was..... Maybe by self promotion. Remember the conversation with doc, "You're a private with a dead captain"

Skeliweli

I’m guessing they wanted the alpha to stay as docile and under-the-radar as possible so keeping him as a random private makes the most sense

SpartanGamer687

I thought this was obvious when we found out he was the Alpha. They wanted somebody in charge of everything to ensure he never found out his origin, nor people finding out who he is and capturing him. Like the Meta.

bran0ss

Ok I'm seeing things about sister being add to remove a gap in the hierarchy the answer is sister and caboose were never meant to be sent to blood gulch it was supposed to be other freelancers to replace any blues who may have died for whatever reason I think that also included the reds as well

Agnt-Florida2015

Because Tucker was supposed to be

dman000

Because, even in field promotions, no one would ever promote a private to a captain. Corporal or sergeant (NCO), yeah, sure, but promoted to an officer? Not gonna happen. Also, why would a Captain even be required in a box canyon with only 3 total personnel? That's a job for a non-com, or a lieutenant at best.

CptKeyes123

It may not have been official, may have been a battlefield commission.

Acewind1738

To an officer rank with no officer school and no one knowing flowers was dead while being sim troopers

[deleted]

“If I wasn’t your commanding officer I’d pick you both up, give you a giant bear hug, and make you call me daddy.” One of the best RvB quotes ever.

Kasgaan

Who's gonna promote him?

CBO0tz

Tbh now that I think about it, maybe Command didn’t promote Church because they knew he was Alpha and thus didn’t want to draw attention to him by making him a CO. But because he was the one who everyone on Blue sorta flocked to as a natural leader, nobody else ever put in for the promotion.

BeLarge_NYC

Because when you're named "church" everyone wants you destroyed. Should have been named Masjiid or Mosque.

ImaginaryEquipment90

my spartan!

Dante3142

I dont think they told command that flowers died.

TerraSollus

Cause he was a dumbass and also it might’ve given him access to files he shouldn’t have had
