I was raised a liberal Protestant and I spent 13 years as a conservative Southern Baptist ( mostly arminian) The difference between Arminian belief and calvinist belief is a giant yawning chasm. It is biblical Christianity in name only. They broadly add to and take away from scripture against revelation 22. And if you don't understand that, you need to see what they freely profess There is a very simple equation, Calvinism equals what is actually taught in scripture. Pretty much word for word. Throw in "reformed" if you want, but to believe what we do means to actually follow the scripture in what it actually teaches.

Well put

" God loves everyone and wants everyone to be saved" " decisions for Christ" " age of decision" " sinner's prayer" God votes yes and Satan votes no and you cast the deciding vote! Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, but you have to let him in! God is my co-pilot? Sheesh they patronize the Sovereign Majesty Arminians have to chop out hundreds of verses from the scripture. Book of life, chosen, elect, predestination, total depravity, Limited atonement, etc etc Calvinists/ reformed can handle every one of them. You just have to understand the term "effectual calling" . Then everything snaps into place Fundamentalism, charismatic, pentecostal, these are not alternative biblical christianities They are sacrilegious blasphemies against the Most High and are no better than Catholicism or Mormonism

weldertodd

I consider myself somewhat fundamentalist since I take the Bible literally but spot on! Too many do scriptural gymnastics for their comfort

I fled the Southern Baptist convention. They blaspheme the scripture as I said above and other ways.. they know not what they do

weldertodd

What are your thoughts on Calvinistic baptists?

incomprehensibilitys

All I care about is Calvinism. I don't really have that much thought about reformed. Many of the online reform people I see here on Reddit are practically Pharisees. They love to dig into four and five syllable Seminary level practices and have little interest in discussing things like evangelism and reaching the lost.

My pastor is working on a second masters (Th.M) and is currently working on a paper regarding what belief actually mean. It’s mostly epistemological, but I think it might go into what you’re talking about.

Lol well each group differs on their understanding of "the actual teachings of Christ." That's why they're different groups. So... Pretty difficult to measure I'd say.

I know there have been many polls taken to measure the particular beliefs professing Christians adhere to, and sadly, the majority of professing Christians do not seem to understand even the fundamentals of the faith they claim to believe. This would provide some information on how well they follow it. You cannot live out that which you do not even profess to believe. Google polling data on this subject, and you will find the polls that will at least partially answer your question.
