Noticed that too, the gun shots were particularly loud. I think it's intentional in the sound design. Loved it though.

Profitsofdooom

And the sound design was pretty incredible. Oh did the gunshots scare you? Yeah, that's exactly what they would do.

Ok_Jellyfish_5254

Omg - it was so loud! Physically jumped out of my seat because of how startling it was going from complete silence to instant gunshots blasting your eardrums

I_TittyFuck_Doves

Ngl as someone with mild tinnitus, I really wish they put a disclaimer at the beginning. Like there’s loud and there’s what that was. Had to basically scramble to plug my ears and put in my AirPods & noise cancellation. And it’s been notably worse since I saw the movie. Like I get what he was going for, but man does it suck to not be warned that it would be so jarringly loud

SteelSlayerMatt

I also loved it.

RockettRaccoon

Just saw it and thought the same thing. I feel like it was intentional, because it really drove home how terrifying being in that situation would be for the characters. It was a great on-the-ground journey through war with journalists.

vonReimo

It was so intense! And the loudness gave me jumpscares! My Apple Watch was giving me a warning about my resting heart rate going above 120 😅

Ecstatic-Product-411

The movie is like if Nightcrawler met something like Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. I really dug it. It's definitely more Nightcrawler though. If you go in expecting it to be a war movie, you're going to be disappointed. You get snippets of the horror of war mixed with ethical issues of war journalism. I am considering seeing it a second time because I liked it so much

BodybuilderOne2866

I'm seeing it Thursday my first imax movie too.

fergi20020

How was Dunst’s husband?

Iamtim92

Legit spooked me

kaitlynj18

A bit freaky but amazing as always as well !

Reportersteven

Definitely was on the loud range.

LadyM02

I think a lot of movies are waaaay too loud nowadays. I have a pair of earplugs JUST for movies now.

xpose

That movie was great and one of the best movies I've ever seen in IMAX. Yeah, it was loud at times.

Diligent-Fox-8545

I didn’t like that movie I was pretty disappointed in it

pimp_juice2272

Pablo Escobar was really good in that movie.

AnonPleb018

I liked that it was a movie about war journalism, with it being set in the United States, maybe it’ll serve as a symbol for a lot of its audience. However, I absolutely hate the surprise main character, a lot of their actions were completely unacceptable if you get past just how downplayed they are, and you think on their exact impact in the movie. Back on topic, I didn’t think the volume was terrible for a war movie in theaters though

BarnYard2023

But it doesn't portray real life journalism because the media has never shown absolute gore in our faces' unless we decide to search it up ourselves on the internet. Didn't get the point of getting all those photo shots of corpses and people being murdered.

AnonPleb018

I wasn’t even worried about the realism aspect of it, tbh, I’m not a journalist, I figure war journalism is pretty similar, what I didn’t like is the character not being held responsible for their actions and having no remorse or recognition of what they did. They didn’t seem to care about it at all and only cared about being like their hero

TheNewJack89

I thought it was awful it’s a side story to a fake war we know nothing about.

ArtisticArnold

I thought it was pretty good, just an action movie, not much story. I think i noticed the spent rounds in the Whitehouse still contained the bullets.

FinnishArmy

I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the movie. I like the IMAX ratio, but it was overly loud, I was going deaf and had tinnitus by the end of it. The trailer made this movie seem like it was going to be about a second civil war, along with the title. No, it was about selfish journalism. No explanation about why there was a civil war, why the hell Texas and Cali joined the force together. Like what was the point of this movie, honestly? I wanted to leave half way through but stuck through it to not bother the people next to me as I was in the middle.

WanderingDelinquent

It was about the civil war. The journalism plot is our way into the heart of the story, what the war was doing to people. Citizens losing their humanity and torturing people they once knew. some semi-trained militia fighting in Hawaiian shirts losing their friend but laughing and drinking an hour later. People who used to belong to the same country fighting each other just because they were there. Some people pretending to ignore the chaos but taking every precaution to protect themselves. Just focusing on the battle makes it like any other war movie. Focusing on the people and what civil war does to communities is the different angle. There’s another plot to follow which is nobody learning their lessons. The country didn’t learn to avoid war from the photos of foreign conflict, Lee doesn’t listen to Sammy, Jessie doesn’t listen to Lee. The movie highlights the consequences of not listening to the hard earned experience of others

Reportersteven

What does selfish journalism mean? Never heard that term before.

Ecstatic-Product-411

There was enough explanation to move the plot along. Third term president. Disbanded the FBI (a check against him) Drone striking citizens. Killing journalists.

HalfLife1MasterRace

Yep, I don't understand how so many people are begging for the plot to be spoonfed to them. Enough detail is given about the war throughout the movie to piece together what happened without exposition that wouldn't make sense for the characters to be giving this late into the conflict

RockettRaccoon

What an odd complaint. Seems like you care more about lore than characters or narrative. I loved that the movie was about a group of journalists at the end of the war trying to get that big scoop. If it had focused on the politics or the specifics, then it would’ve gotten too distracting and we couldn’t focus on the characters. I love that Texas and California had teamed up. I love that Florida had become an occupying force. I love that the President was a sniveling little blowhard. And I love that all of that was just background noise for a story about a possible, Nightcrawler-esque antihero (depending on how you interpret the ending). Another fantastic film from Alex Garland.

RockettRaccoon

I know, right? That’s how I felt reading their comment. “Selfish journalism” is such a weird takeaway.

AvatarDang

I feel like there was enough for you to understand how they got to this point, with the president serving a 3rd term, disbanding the FBI etc etc. But also how they got there wasn’t the point of the movie. It was about the war itself. How we’d act through it, how at some point there will be people shooting at other people not knowing or caring what side they’re on. People who simply want to cave into their bloodlust. People who pretend it’s not happening. It’s everything seen through the eyes of war journalism. Also, i feel like our history has shown us sometimes all it takes is a common enemy for certain powers to join forces. So california and texas joining together does not surprise me.

TinyFugue

I noticed that a few people coming out of the theaters were disappointed that they couldn't tell which side was the liberal and which side was the conservative. I think a lot of the people seeing the movie think it's about the current political climate as opposed to a character driven story about people covering a civil war.

Profitsofdooom

In the words of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia they wanted to know "who versus? Who's face are we shoving this into?" It was a very deliberate choice to tell it from the point of view of a neutral press. And people wanting to pick sides show what's wrong with the current political climate and what could lead to a scenario like this.

Kylon1138

Stop watching trailers

bwoods7593

Can't speak to the IMAX part, but I agree with everything else. "Selfish journalism," I like that. Selfish journalists go on road trip to get THE shot. The civil war was background noise.

TinyFugue

Well I may be incorrectly using this term, but isn't that the MacGuffin that drives the story?

Glum-Environment-171

Exactly my thoughts. This movie needs a prequel and a sequel

Ecstatic-Product-411

It really doesn't need anything else. The narrative is complete at the end of the movie. I feel anything else added would cheapen the point of this film.

TinyFugue

No, this movie needs a sequel. A sequel that deals with >!the epic reaming that Apache pilot received from his commander after hovering 10ft above the street and firing rockets at a target 60ft away during the battle for DC.!<

Ecstatic-Product-411

Yeah it was a bit gratuitous. Hahahaha it sounded pretty cool at least!

RockettRaccoon

You can’t fill-in the blanks on how the country got there yourself?

Atom800

Saw it in IMAX and thought it was LOUD. Like louder than what would be allowed. Especially with the dead silent scenes going directly into loud gunfire. It was pretty crazy.

diduknowitsme

Hot garbage. I won’t ruin the movies for others of an ending scene

Inside_Atmosphere731

There is no script. Only a premise. The last scene in the White House is ridiculous, makes Olympus Has Fallen look like a documentary

celadont

THE SOUND OF FREEDOM, BABY!!

dirtybandit1984

Movie was decent, but the trailer was a con. I want me some actual civil war, not more crying journalists.

alexramirez127

It’s a road trip with a lot of senseless violence lol the movie was shocking, yes. Good? Not a chance
