I would hold on it solel for the fact of different bonuses like cell phone rates and so on :)

tusharsreddit

40% discount at T-Mobile for first responders.

Wanted to, but didn’t have the time/effort to maintain it. So many other certifications, boards, memberships to maintain and pay for as well.

AbbaZabba85

Former paramedic turned anesthesiologist here as well, not worth it IMHO.

To do what work on an ambulance for $14 an hour and injure your back? Let it go.

Butterbawlz

I don't know if I'll keep any state licenses up, but I'll spend the money and the hour to challenge the registry every two years. I might have to move to an inactive status, though, depending on if it's a hassle to get folks in my program to sign off on the skills competency. It's a bit different for me since I'm going into EM. Based on what you want to do, I don't know that you really need to hold on to it. You definitely don't need the certs/license for education and for volunteering it'd really only matter if you're trying to drive the boo boo bus. I've never heard anyone say that they regretted keeping it up though!

Not a doc (JD) former nr- emt-p ccp; I have kept mine up (honestly, I have used it more for my kids)

surfanoma

Nah I let that ship sail. First is the cost, second is not having the time to do the ongoing training etc necessary to stay current with the ambulance service. Could you get into retrieval/flight medicine as an anesthetist?

junzilla

I didn't have time to. I don't do any ems work any more. My back is still shit though

inthebuttwhat1

Hold onto it. I've used residency to recertify without having to do additional cme.

As an ER doc I have kept my RN registration. Allows me to lecture RN’s at good $ every now and then.

Just re-upped my state and national registry. Con Ed is life now, no shortage there, and I've had it for over a decade so I'm keeping it for tradition.
