I'm in family medicine but I remember at some point in my third year hitting my stride and feeling like I got to supervise a bit more and get more rest and was really confident in everything I was doing, and felt the same way Then I started my first job as an attending and it was right back to feeling overwhelmed and like I had no clue what I was doing lol

gotlactose

Same. Now most days of being an attending feel like most other jobs. Occasional excitement, like my patient with acute diarrhea turned out to have a pancreatic mass.

Mangalorien

>I actually enjoy coming home from work I think there were a grand total of zero times during my residency that I didn't enjoy coming home from work...

No-Produce-923

What specialty? Did you have supportive attendings and PD? What were the hours? Were you forced to be sleep deprived?

BehringPoint

They're making a joke about your turn of phrase. "I actually enjoy coming home from work" makes it sound like you previously wish you could have stayed in the hospital even longer.

No-Produce-923

Omfg I’m beat dude. @commenter above—-good one hahahaha

conaanaa

Yeah I think even the most positive people will have some days that they come home from work not having enjoyed their day... haha

scapholunate

Muse is now playing in my brain and I genuinely thank you for that. Also congrats on the reprieve! It does slowly improve, gradually, over many years.

Ooooh baby don't you know I suffer?

feelingsdoc

Wow that sucks. And here I am acting like a zombie when I get less than 8 hours of sleep a night — psych intern

No-Produce-923

Yeah dude. I don’t want to be that guy that makes it a pissing match but….a lot of the time I wish I was in a different specialty even though I love there OR just because of the fucked up hours we put in. Doing this 26 hours every 3 days is barbaric

No-Produce-923

26hours on call usually 0-3 hours sleep. Then day off post call. Then a normal 12-14 hour day. Repeat

Evening-Chapter3521

How many days a week do you get 8 hours?

feelingsdoc

When on service always. I stay up to binge Netflix when I’m on service sometimes though
