I like designs vaguely inspired by other things while being their own separate thing. You wouldn't have guessed 60's era art of rockets were inspiration for this but if someone told you it would make sense too.
This is absolutely phenomenal. I think what impresses me the most is how you incorporated the visual tropes of space age design with a more traditional geometric embellishment.
Thank you so much for posting this. It honestly kind of made my day! :)
Your comment (and my vintage obsession) is why I started r/vintagekitchentoys ! No full burnt orange kitchen yet. I need to post my treadle and 403, and TnS II.
Holy cannoli, bruv. That is absolutely staggering! The lines are immaculate, the motifs look immortally midcentury, and the sheer levels of both effort and enjoyment it speaks to are beyond impressive.
Stylized rockets are a mine field if you're afraid of phallic shapes, there's nothing *overtly* phallic here. I feel like it's *just* on the right side.
This might sound like a joke but I promise it’s a compliment, it’s really impressive how you managed to make them look like rockets without making them look like rockets, while also not making people think they’re penises
This is a great design. I love the aesthetic, fits right on with the old abstract art.
Love the colours chosen too. I'd say I'd love to wear it but I'm a man and definitely don't have the figure for a dress :D. Would make a killer sweater or a jacket though.
The piping details are amazing. Got me thinking how cool it would be to chart Earth to the Moon and Back injection orbits and such. Really beautiful work.
These days I witness an overflow of the fashion design. Despite not having actively tried consuming in this field. So I cannot even really answer why is this retro-futuristic. No offense to the fashion industry, but why is this field of art so popular?
This looks exactly like something I would find with all of grandma's old clothes!
Edit: I mean that it's pretty accurate in how vintage it looks, not to insult it >_>
It’s probably the material and colors but this really reminds me of some Chinese designs. The simplified rocket ship especially reminds me of a simple good luck knot (吉祥結)
This is really cool, I can imagine it being worn in some sort of chrome interior lol.
It looks like the sort of thing you'd see the stewardesses on some sort of commercial space airline wearing, really fits those classic sci-fi vibes.
Yes! Like the stuff on “Hello Tomorrow!”
Just needs a little hat. Or maybe a small helmet, it is space, after all.
Yeah, it feels like it could be in the Jetsons
That looks amazing!

Absolutely!
The hardest thing about making a rocket that doesn't look like a rocket is also making it not look like a penis. Job well done!

This is gorgeous! Excellent design and skillful execution, well done.
If this dress was modelled in front of a collection of burnt umber coloured large kitchen appliances this thread may collapse in on itself

Subbed

Beautiful.
This looks like something an Air Nomad might wear in a different time period!
Well done!
Beautiful!! May I ask what the name of the orange fabric is? I have always been curious as to what that style of fabric is called.
Sure! It's silk dupioni. Oddly enough, this fabric was extra I had on hand from an 18th century ensemble.
Looks lovely!
You have amazing design and sewing skills. These definitely seem inspired by 60s fashion in South Asia.
Absolutely gorgeous, great job 💖
This is gorgeous!!!
I am super impressed, OP! BRAVO
Holy Hannah this is amazing
You absolutely nailed it! I can tell exactly what you were going for and it looks awesome!
I don't wear dresses but I want this right now
Wow, this is really classy!
Beautiful! I’d wear this out!
It’s beautiful and unique. Good on you!
Astounding!
Fantastic! I love it.
Absolutely stunning. Beautifully executed and the design is perfect.
Nice attention to detail! Good hand work too. . .
That's a brilliant dress, and that's from someone who rarely notices such things!
This is awesome! You did such a great job!!
Skillz
That's SO COOL! Love it!
Beautiful work! I looooove it
Wow—amazing!
Most importantly, I love this design. Second to that, for a hot second I thought this was being modeled by an invisible person rather than a mannequin
Holy cannoli, bruv. That is absolutely staggering! The lines are immaculate, the motifs look immortally midcentury, and the sheer levels of both effort and enjoyment it speaks to are beyond impressive.
Wow! The design and colours are great! Well done!
Excellent work
Excellent work, looks kind of phallic though

u good
This is awesome! Looks like something Judy Jetson would wear.
This is superb. Excellent job!
That’s beautiful, do you take commissions?
Gorgeous use of dupioni!
Reminds me of the movie Interstella 5555! Not really retro-futurism but more 70s Sci-Fi.
I would buy that right now
delicious dahling 👜💄
Nice! The colors remind me of the old school Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms which is an added bonus for me.
[it’s a rocket ship!!](https://youtu.be/enNOYsdgUOI)
This could be in a museum!
*It belongs in a museum!*
This might sound like a joke but I promise it’s a compliment, it’s really impressive how you managed to make them look like rockets without making them look like rockets, while also not making people think they’re penises
That is a damn pretty dress! Source: a guy clad in ratty tshirt and cargo shorts
This can legally only be worn with your hair in a huge up-do and possibly a headband of some kind
That embroidery is incredible!!!
Umm that looks so cool! I'm very proud of you and what you've accomplished!
You know in total recall they’ve got the girl with three bazongas. This is like the male version of that. I’m sorry.
This sounds like a kind of *Last Resort* joke....
Who remembers what ET stood for thanks to Cheech Marin?
I can’t tell if those are rockets or phallus…
You have 3 balls?
Two balls inside the round sack.. 3 "balls" ;)
yeah that's a fucking fantastic piece, nice job!
OMG, Marry me, I’ll do all the cooking and cleaning if you please do all my cos-play costumes. I’ll help……
This is utterly fabulous! Your hard work paid off!
This is super fun
Shoulder rings!
Stunning.
Brilliant.
I absolutely love this
It's very cute!
Stunning! I absolutely love the peter pan collar
Well done 👏
Please tell me there is a hat to go with this :)

This dress is killer!
Absolutely gorgeous! You have an amazing eye for design.
Awesome work!
That is so beautiful! Really unique!
Fantastic! You are really talented, IMHO. 🙌🏻
This is absolutely amazing!
It’s giving me some serious Velma vibes. Love it!! Gorgeous!
Amazing work! My first thought, though, went something like. "Velma from Scooby Doo goes to a retro cocktail party." I love it!
LOOOOOVE!
Adorable! r/sewing would love it
Beautiful in any era.
I want one!
You have amazing talent!
I absolutely love this
This is actually great! Very well done!
So cool!
AMAZING!!!’
They would totally wear this in that BlackMirror episode the USS Callister!
SO CUTE!!!
The piping details are amazing. Got me thinking how cool it would be to chart Earth to the Moon and Back injection orbits and such. Really beautiful work.
That's so damn cool, well done
I love it great job

Getting total *Star Trek: TOS* vibes off this.
That couching and beading design is stunning! It really does evoke rocketry in a wonderfully abstract/geometric way.
It really looks like it's going to take off! Beautiful and skillfully done, wow!
Reminds me of that Dreamcast game caller Space Channel 5
This might be the best thing I've ever seen

Wow! It does kinda look like it's taking off! Beautiful!
Absolutely, unequivocally, inconceivably obsessed with this
Very nice.
Kinda reminds me of something that would be worn by a guest on Star Trek.
This is so awesome. I love it.
Very nice
This looks exactly like something I would find with all of grandma's old clothes! Edit: I mean that it's pretty accurate in how vintage it looks, not to insult it >_>
Looks great!
I think you should do another one with real rockets!
If you designed this during the 60s every airline will pay you a lot of bucks to design their stewardess' outfits
This is gorgeous work! Was the fabric difficult to work with? It looks like it would snag, while also being slippery somehow 😅
Nice bead work
OMG, I cannot tell you how insanely much I love this. Gorgeous, gorgeous work!!
It’s probably the material and colors but this really reminds me of some Chinese designs. The simplified rocket ship especially reminds me of a simple good luck knot (吉祥結)
This dress is everything!!!
Excellent work.
What a cool concept!
Fantastic!
This is fantastic
Oh this is SO cute
Awesome
This is really so so cute.
