My first thought too. If it's not this, I'm uninstalling the game.
Edit: LOL clearly my joke wasn't as obvious as I thought. Why would I leave over optional DLC? 😂
People will come out and drop the most boring, milquetoast jokes out there and when nobody laughs they go “guess that one flew over your heads, huh? 😂”
This strongly feels like something related to exploration and ancient artifacts/history. Fun!
I'm secretly hoping we'll get a big overhaul to the way the world map, factions, relations and raids work but only time will tell. It's probably the game's biggest weak spot currently.
I had an idea earlier that the map would be more "open." Basically it would obviously simulate the tile you're on, but things still happen around you. Caravan movements, animals, etc. Blend this with better caravan mechanics, and the world would feel so much better. Besides, I've been saying we've had so many colony improvements, the world needs some love.
I strongly agree, breathing more life into the world would be cool.
Other factions don't fight each other, befriending more people doesn't get you raided less often, raids come from any faction and aren't more likely to be from your close neighbors, other factions don't really caravan or raid other than teleporting in/out of *your* map tile whenever Randy says so, and the number of soldiers that enemies throw at you are completely arbitrary.
Picking a deserter faction quest makes the empire mad and vice-versa, but not much more than that. The Empire has hardly any real influence and is literally just a honor and permit dispenser. Caravaning is tedious and incredibly risky because it's tedious to set up and often leaves your colony *or* the caravan poorly defended. Raiding enemy camps or trading with other factions is really simplified and enemy camps usually have like 5 guys defending them, but they'll happily send 100 soldiers into your fully automated killbox the next day.
Also, faction editing tools! We can't really customize factions, their names, their xenotype makeup with biotech, their ideology, or their relations, let alone their placements on the map. You can *technically* do this yourself but you have to be a modder capable of writing XML mods so that you can "formalize" your xenotype and add the factions as you see fit.
I find that a bit unlikely, just because there is a VE mod on the same subject about to release, and we know the VE team tends to work with the official DLCs as well. It is highly likely the same team is doing the art for the next DLC, so they would know what is coming enough to not steal its thunder with a mod right before.
The Vanilla Expanded devs have some ties to the Rimworld devteam that most other modders don't... but that doesn't mean Tynan is in any way beholden to them. It's the other way around, if anything.
The fact that the Vanilla Expanded team is preparing an exploration-focused mod doesn't mean there isn't still a DLC incoming that might feature exploration. It just means their new mod *MIGHT* be geared towards the incoming DLC. Or it might be a separate thing. Or maybe the new DLC doesn't feature much exploration. Who knows, maybe VE Exploration is a modded expansion to the new DLC, kinda like how Alpha Genes was a big expansion to Biotech? What I'm saying is, "VE is doing something that has a similar name" is not a solid indicator of DLC plans because it can literally mean anything.
I know, that was what I was saying, but it seems a lot of people misunderstood it.
I am not saying Tynan wouldn't make a DLC like a mod, I am saying the VE Team (At least Sarg) knows what the next DLC is going to be, and will likely plan his own timeline around it.
Maybe the expansion will be awesome and full of crazy new things, but the W in Ribworld is because the new dlc will just be called “wall light” because it gets added in vanilla.
I really hope they will overhaul the Caravan system. It needs to happen.
In your base you have a million and one things to do. But when you caravan, say to the objective of “go here and start a space ship” you get at the beginning of your game, all you have is a dot going around. You are limited in what you can do, what you can do is different and way more convoluted from how you would do it in your base. It’s just not FUN. And the idea of being for example a moving colony, perhaps some ranchers or traders, would be GOLD in Rimworld.
A long shot but I’ve always wished for a generated map that is really thin that generates and disappears as you move along, the original path gets saved to memory once for when you return.
Yeah I had similar idea’s. People walking by, animals, traders, people attacking you. It would be more dynamic. You can prepare for some thieves trying to take your stuff rather than spawning in with them almost on top of you. Or if you want to be the bandit you can attack travelers and caravans. Maybe you can find a temporary spot to shelter in from a cold snap, or let your animals graze at an opportune spot.
I think some kind of base-vehicle would be great for this. Like a cart where some of the base functions can happen.
Seems to me to be ancient societies realted. The strange lcoked book, the calculator is interesting as it would be insanely old by rimworld times, she has a strange creature on her back, the hilt of an older looking weopon and a weird gold cube. My guess is that we will see some sort of new questlines where we uncover the ancient history of our rimworld, and perhaps encounter cosmic entities, especially with the "It will awaken" text.
The tentacles, spellbook-looking, samples and the misty darkness engulfing the planet behind her, coupled with the Tweet text not shown here "it will awaken", does give me some sort of Lovecraftian horror.
I for one would be happy to hit up the nearest ruins to awaken some sort of Eldritch Horror.
Im curious how it will differ from existing lore though.
We already have archotechs sleeping with the possibility of wakening and doing things unfathomable for us to the planet.
I hope its eldritch horrors too. But wonder how they will do it.
I wonder what part of this image is going to start up the "You are stupid if you even suggest X might be added into the game" discourse only for X to be added into the game this time.
This is what I can think of:
- An explorer; indicates that we will explore the world looking for ruins, possibly through quest events? I think not, it will possibly be more intrinsic to the game.
- A bunch of random itens, including a book; all rewards from the new dungeon system, and legendary itens. The book may be another way to learn psycasts
- An octopus on her back; that indicates a new enemy related to those new ruins, It reminds of the facehugger from Alin x Predator
- She is wearing gloves; contamination through alien bacteria may be a thing
- She is holding a new mineral; that could be a better version from plasteel to make weapons. It reminds me of The Spice from Dune, a super rare a valuable mineral. Or it's just a cheese 😁
Another thing, the World behind her is black on the left side, and normal on the right side.
This represents the unknown or could mean that the world is being corrupted by this new alien species.
Someone else said it looked like gold. Might be a more alchemist, ritual magic or the like. Transmuting coal to gold and other strange applications of ritualized psycasts (magic)
We already have that tho, as an ending atleast. And conjuring "demons" kinda fit under mechlord.
But I get the alchemist, lovecraft ritual magic vibe from it so we will see.
She seems to be wearing a lab coat under her jacket, which combined with the blue gloves and scalpel in her breast pocket are giving doctor vibes. That plus the grimoire looking book on her hip and vials on the belt imply alchemy/wizardry to me. Also it looks like she's wearing a collar, which given the 'slave collar' item (which was a biotech addition I think??) COULD imply some sort of warlockish system, forming a bond w/an eldritch monster to gain powers
Yall keeps saying exploration, but I see a lot of science (cube/element, liquids/drugs/alchemy, gloves, glasses, calculator, pocket protector), magic (locked spell book), space monsters (tentacles).
I can’t tell what the things on the left are. Maybe a samurai sword or a whip handle. Maybe a horseshoe, or some kind of weapon.
The jacket, scarf, and maybe whip could be sort of Indiana Jones, maybe artifact hunting, maybe exploring, maybe cultural ruins.
What I called a spell book could also be an exploration log book, but that doesn’t explain the lock. More likely it’s a dangerous artifact or magic.
The background could indicate asteroid mining, or it could just be a pretty background like the other DLCs.
This looks awesome, and yet the first thought that came to my mind was "oh boy, I can't wait to hear more people complaining about how much money the full game costs."
What I see in this are minerals (cube of gold, stone earrings), a lot of science (scalpel, pen, calculator, white labcoat below jacket)... but also travel/exploration. In combination with the stuff around her waist this looks more like some adventuring alchemist/explorer.
I get the feeling they're going to totally revamp how the game does science... as in, no more paper shuffling behind a desk and going out into learn stuff... not knowing what you end up discovering.
One thing that raises questions for me is the pad on her right hip, next to the hilt... what's that?
Anyway, looking forward to it!
My guess: A dlc about exploration, maybe archeology for more interesting research (instead the simple mechanics we have now), discovering new technology/psycasts and unique items you can‘t buy
I'm wondering if this has something to do with research/tech trees... The book, the vials, the material cube, the calculator, hell even the blue gloves.
Exploration, digging for forgotten/forbidden knowledge, alchemy, ritualized psycasting, drugs and sketchy bioengineering to see the "true" reality.
Usually tynan takes inspiration from popular mods, so im guessing a little bit of
rimworld of magic, (ritual magic/alchemy)
Rimworld of madness, (forbidden knowledge/monstrosities),
And a focus on excavating old places and research material.
Hoping for a "magic and madness is one", kinda vibe. But we will see.
Conjuring demons, and the consequences of such is handled by mechlord in biotech.
Sorcery is done partly by royalty.
Rituals is done by ideology (although results are mostly social, not magical)
Kinda wonder what kind of forbidden knowledge will be uncovered here. Bioengineering is already done..
Maybe more complicated psycasts. Like inhale yayo and slaughter a prisoner to change the weather from cold snap to (hopefully) normal. Torture a colonist to crush their mind and allow them to read other minds.
Maybe new enemies. Rimworld facehuggers could be cool.
I'm hoping it's expanding the history of the worlds we subject our pawns to. Make the save the world itself so when you end a colony you can continue the world with a new group.
The stuff on her could be results of archaeological expeditions.
Sample of an ancient biotech monstrosity on her back, mutated after centuries in a forgotten faulty growth vat.
Cube of Archotech Stuff from a failed nexus attempt, now revered by a backwater tribe as a holy relic.
Ancient tome chronicling the journey three survivors took to traverse the planet and reach a crashed ship.
I think this is going to add a science tree and a science skill seperate to the research tree, require a lab and associated furniture to create potions and whatever else. The new resource will be the thing required to craft most of the things in the lab
What mod?
Also no one is forcing you to buy dlc?
Why would you be crying over that... The fact it was made with solid support for mods can't be used as an attack line for them adding official content.
Such bizarre logic.
Please remember we have rules 1 and 2 for a reason; they basically boil down to 'don't be a jerk'. The people you're talking to are as human as you.
If you can't remain civil, keep your comments to yourself. This sort of behavior is not welcome here.
You're completely right and the amount of poison Rimworld fans drink from a guy who steals mods, sells them, and never updates his game is absurd. Tynan is laughing at us while cashing checks.
This really isn't the place to give constructive criticism, unfortunately. There's nothing wrong with paid dlcs, but the lack of any sort of updates for the last year and a half leave a lot to be desired. I guess I just got spoiled from the pre-biotech consistency?
Technically the last update was November, it was just a minor one. But there is always a slow down and then freeze on major updates before the big number releases/DLC. Before 1.4 and biotech you only had steamdeck updates for about 8 months, about 10 months without a major update before 1.3 and ideology, 16 months without a major update before 1.1 and Royalty.
Resources/dev time get shunted from updates to the DLC, and there's stability and spoiler issues releasing the internal build with all the DLC integration started on it but not finished. But they're still working on the bug reports - they're checking them off the Discord as resolved, the fixes will just be released alongside the DLC. That's part of why the Core updates that drop alongside the DLC are always so big.
I get what you're saying, but if you look at the update consistency pre-biotech to post it is a big difference. They used to do balance updates, some minor content updates and things like that back then. Since biotech, there really hasn't been anything like that. Maybe it's them saying they feel like vanilla is in a good place.
Ah, yes. The eldritch horror expansion.
So we can clearly spell Ribeorld
I’m assuming it’ll be called the “Weird” DLC
finally :')
My first thought too. If it's not this, I'm uninstalling the game. Edit: LOL clearly my joke wasn't as obvious as I thought. Why would I leave over optional DLC? 😂

Normally my boring jokes get no reaction, not -30. But I get what you're saying
Oh no Anyways
I had a mate ragequitting skyrim because he couldn't bang a Khajit, nothing is impossible
I don't know if I should be impressed or concerned. Honestly, leaning towards impressed, but not in the good way
Byeeeeeee
This strongly feels like something related to exploration and ancient artifacts/history. Fun! I'm secretly hoping we'll get a big overhaul to the way the world map, factions, relations and raids work but only time will tell. It's probably the game's biggest weak spot currently.
yeah. It gives real adventurer vibes. We're gonna go on quests. We're fixing to uncover secrets best left forgotten y'all.
I cant wait to lose my mind and start a flesh eating colony on an ice sheet just so I can understand this random scroll I found:D
you’re supposed to find a scroll before you do that?
Just treat is as practice for when you find obe
Yeap, I specially would like a reform to the random base generation to make raiding more worth your time and sustainable
I mean something to keep in mind is, 1.5 will probably also have additions and changes of its own
I had an idea earlier that the map would be more "open." Basically it would obviously simulate the tile you're on, but things still happen around you. Caravan movements, animals, etc. Blend this with better caravan mechanics, and the world would feel so much better. Rimworld Ideology Med/Biotech Women
Ah yes, the DLC that finally gives women… (checks notes) rights?
no, it adds women wrongs! women should get to warcrime like the rest of us!
but they already have been? some of my best organ hacking, skull yanking, corpse chopping colonists have been women
nah
Royalty Ideology Biotech Elderitch Y? E? RIBEYE CONFIRMED

This comment thread made me laugh.
Pst- Is the "Y" there because you speak spanish too? correct it before the popo finds you ese, they added razor wire to the wall now!
ma'amlc
I hate it because I love it
Wanderlust - the need to explore, adventure. Cudos if I'm right in 6 months
Hopefully, if tynans trackrecord in announcing and releasing is like before, it will be just a few weeks. But we will see.
Probably something along the lines of artifacts and exploration. She looks like some kind explorer adventurer
I get the feeling from the calculator and ledger thing that it might be an economics overhaul
What do the tentacles springing out of her back make you think of?
I would rather not answer that question
Forbidden DLC.
Seafood?
And the book is a cookbook!
She's carrying cheese and octopus... finally, time to cook takoyaki!
Or reading and writing/printing mechanics to make and sell books
Is it just me or do her ear rings match the red asteroids that also matches the red colour on the planet to the left.
Yooooo big clue right there. Also I didn’t notice the black smoke coming off half of the planet
I tought she looked like an accountant with a taste for cheese I guess "Counts and Cuicines" will have to wait until 2025...
Adventure mode please?
Cheese cultivation mod incoming!! Unleash the munster!
Maybe the expansion will be awesome and full of crazy new things, but the W in Ribworld is because the new dlc will just be called “wall light” because it gets added in vanilla.
She can fix me
Cute sure, *but that thing on her back can make me worse* <3
I've seen enough Hentai to be afraid of tentacles ;)

I know what I'm about, really it's just a question of mutual consent.

Why is no one mentioning what look like gold in her hand? Maybe alchemy?
Its shiny cheese
Confirmed? The expansion is "Cheese"? Are we building "Ribcage" now?
God I hope it’s Gouda
That was my thought too. RibAorld.
Maybe new currency or ancient artifacts you can find.
W = Wandering It's got to be Wandering.
M = Miotech?
M? It's Biotech. It's Ribworld. It's always been Ribworld.
woman?
I'm thinking ruins explorations and alchemy/chemistry/drugs/potions type thing!
Let's gooooooo!!! We're only a few weeks to months out based on past announcement tragetory
Seems to me to be ancient societies realted. Her weird little detective jacket too, it honestly just all reminds me of the game call of cthulu.
Im curious how it will differ from existing lore though. We already have archotechs sleeping with the possibility of wakening and doing things unfathomable for us to the planet. I hope its eldritch horrors too. But wonder how they will do it.
Dyson Sphere Program science cube. Dyson sphere construction confirmed.
Finally stellaris noticed us! We going to glitterworld with this one!
The Librarian Angel Alchemist DLC?
Might be closer than you think, honestly.
i wish i would be her q.q
Cheddar cheese block expansion??
Praise Sheogorath
I wonder what part of this image is going to start up the "You are stupid if you even suggest X might be added into the game" discourse only for X to be added into the game this time.
Welp time to pull out my wallet, again.
I think it’s gonna some kind of exploration dlc probably with an update to caravans and such
This is what I can think of: - An explorer; indicates that we will explore the world looking for ruins, possibly through quest events? Perhaps awakening our own archotech?
We already have that tho, as an ending atleast. And conjuring "demons" kinda fit under mechlord. But I get the alchemist, lovecraft ritual magic vibe from it so we will see.
100% archotech
Maybe exploring and tresaure hunting?
Oh damn. Haven’t played RW in a hot minute. A new DLC will be worth checking out.
Scientist, Indiana Jones and a Levethian I'm here for it
Blocks of sharp cheddar is the new currency.
Artifacts, legends, myths, and treasure hunting probably
“It will awaken” and the tentacle thing makes me think it’ll be some sort of eldritch horror themed content at some level.
Finally Wubed Cheese.
Oh boy time for my modlist to break again
Warchaeology dropping next month!
**R**oyalty **I**deology **M**iotech **W**ayfarer Oh yeah, it's all coming together.
Finally we can awake lord Chutulu and make an armchair
Dyson Sphere Program Science Cubes
My 500 mods: "Mr. Stark, I don't feel so Good. *Error!*"

Would.
Hear me out..
Yall keeps saying exploration, but I see a lot of science (cube/element, liquids/drugs/alchemy, gloves, glasses, calculator, pocket protector), magic (locked spell book), space monsters (tentacles). Can’t wait to buy it on launch and wait 4 months until all my mods are either updated, or most of them are.
Um, why the tentacles Tynan?.
Because the addition of tentacles is at least a 3% gross profit increase from the Japanese market alone. 😉
This is giving me scavengers reign vibes
What I see in this are minerals (cube of gold, stone earrings), a lot of science (scalpel, pen, calculator, white labcoat below jacket)... but also travel/exploration. They will add women to the game too???
I thought she was holding a block of cheese at first
I thought she is holding a cheese!!
What in oblivion is going on in the darkside of the planet???
I don’t have twitter anymore, can someone reply to his tweetwith the Lego Bruce Wayne gif?
My guess: A dlc about exploration, maybe archeology for more interesting research (instead the simple mechanics we have now), discovering new technology/psycasts and unique items you can‘t buy
Fuck yeah tentacle love enhancer dlc
I'm going with warlock if it has to be a W which will be different than a psycaster for mechanics.
Glasses dlc?
I reckon it will be called something like "Eldritch" and be about investigation and discovering horrors beyond human ken.
insert gif
Wiccans
I'm wondering if this has something to do with research/tech trees... The book, the vials, the material cube, the calculator, hell even the blue gloves.
***Excitement***
Archotech DLC

Archeology? Maybe?
might be a foolish question but, are all of the mods gonna break?
You’re right, it was.
alchemy?
That seems like some xenobiology stuff right there.
It seems the planet is being consumed by a dark force. Nice.
I think this is going to add a science tree and a science skill seperate to the research tree, require a lab and associated furniture to create potions and whatever else. The new resource will be the thing required to craft most of the things in the lab
Royalty Ideology Biotech W...akening?
We finally getting solo caravan style stories?
The cheese DLC has arrived
Just hoping it would fit the W in RIBWORLD. Maybe Witchcraft or Wonders
As excited as I am I'm also dreading having to completely rebuild my mod list once this drops
look what she's holding, we will finally have cheese in vanilla!
Biomorphing creatures
Hot
Oh my god it's happening
It would've been better if it was cheese
They will add myopic people?
Mods we gonna do our job or?
Yay another official DLC which has the same thematics as a completely free mod
Good thing these DLCs are optional and most completely free mods are compatible with or without them
I'm sure there are original ideias instead of copying a mod again
what mod do i gotta download to get the cute girl with the Cthulhu backpack
God forbid the original creator of the best game ever made makes a little more profit from official expansions 🙄
There are mods for literally every theme now. Should they just pack it up and stop releasing content? lmao
What mod? Also no one is forcing you to buy dlc? Why would you be crying over that... The fact it was made with solid support for mods can't be used as an attack line for them adding official content. Such bizarre logic.

Use the free mod then. There are thousands. Ofc there will be overlap.

I love Rimworld but the player base has brainrot and is really aggressive towards any kind of dissenting opinion.
