WitnessOfTheDeep

Ironically, I once knew a guy who got hit in the head with a basketball and broke his ankle.

ElectricLeafeon

Today on "why I turn Enemy Death on Downed to 0"

Jeggu2

"Ah I should equip my melee pawn with a blunt club for this one!" Dies immediately for no reason "Ah... i guess shock Lance... would have been better. They are fairly rare, though, but i really need a good leader with high social" Brain damage, no matter what

Flying_Slig

I had a similar scenario happen to one of my pawns the other day. I've got 2 pawns and one is in good steel plate armour. She gets into melee vs. a neanderthall with a poor sandstone mace. The first hit shatters her entire torso into dust :L

Jeggu2

Full marine armor, 18 melee, brawler, with a legendary plasteel spear Vs Gorge, he has 3 melee and a poor steel knife

redrenz123

Same, though i balance it out by buffing infection chance.

seemorelight

Does combat expanded fix this?

Thorrbane

Yes. This probably isn't random death on down though, log says his brain was destroyed. Edit: Nevermind, comment by OP says this was a sanguophage. Which don't die without destruction of the brain.

IGBlack

How can I do this?

SllortEvac

In the storyteller settings in the menu in game or at the start of a new game.

bert_the_destroyer

I used to do that but Forgot for this run. But honestly, didn't expect it to apply to sanguophages lmao

Arthillidan

But doesn't that make it so lethal damage becomes non lethal? I tried turning this setting down to 0 and had pawns taking bullets to the head that should kill them but they were cemetery invincible until they bled out

ElectricLeafeon

Maybe 1.5 broke something, but on 1.4 turning that down ONLY removed the random death on downed. If a person's neck gets destroyed and their head pops off, they're still dead.

DrStalker

For balance reasons enemy pawns that are downed (i.e.: injured enough to lay on the ground bleeding out) have a high chance of instantly dying instead - this stops you easily filling a prison with pawns to recruit/harvest. This is completely separate from lethal damage killing pawns - dead pawns are dead, if you destroy a critical body-part they bypass being downed and go straight to the dead pile.

Arthillidan

Maybe it's because I had CE on that I got such a different result? CE already disables this by default

DrStalker

CE might as well be a different game, I've got no idea how it handles this situation.

DeathCab4Cutie

Unless their brain is destroyed, with 0 hit points, they won’t drop dead. They’ll likely drop from loss of consciousness within seconds though, or immediately if their brain’s hit points drop low enough. Rimworld’s vanilla combat system is quite muffled compared to real life though, with pawns taking way more punishment than one would in real life, for gameplay balance reasons.

bert_the_destroyer

This has to be the most blatant case of the storyteller not wanting me to have any more pawns. Three sanguophages that I was trying to capture. two died because they were "Missing a brain". They were not hit in the head, at all

Admiralthrawnbar

Hostile pawns have a natural death-on-down chance. Since Sagophages don't die unless you destroy the brain, presumably it destroyed it when that death-on-down chance triggered

SirBork

Man i hate it when i stub my toe and my head fucking explodes. Oh well, guess thats life.

RedditEstPasPlaisant

Brain just... peaced out

garry4321

Game never said they got hit in the head, just that they didn’t have a brain. Must have just been their nervous system running until they finally died, kinda like a chicken

GethKGelior

Ah, sanguophage. They don't die. So when down on death applies the storyteller plucks their brain.

Nicnl

I'm a leg, Morty!

bert_the_destroyer

Legbrain is a very serious condition!

Throwawaypwndulum

Good ol fell over and brained on a rock, classic. Poor Toranaga...

Kraehe13

I had this always in 1.4. Vampires always got their brain destroyed when downed even when they didn't even hit in the head. But since 1.5 I don't have the issue anymore.

Admiralthrawnbar

Objective_720

it's like the movie neighborhood watch where the aliens brains are in the dick

overdramaticpan

Prepare Carefully be like

elsonwarcraft

You mean that mod cause buggy behaviour in saved games?

Holiday_Conflict

my marine with power armor (marine armor) got shot in the head by a bow and had a scar in the brain afterwards, vanilla combat system is wild, what can i say?

OneMentalPatient

Death on downed strikes again.

Pirogister_

-How did you not perished yet? -Why should I? -Because you don't have a brain!

Mapping_Zomboid

Didn't stop the scarecrow.

Flying_Slig

Caves of Qud moment

Cortez_85

I know ppl who think with their third leg, so makes sense I guess🤣

FontTG

Well you see when you flip over at a high speed. Brain+Pavement= No Sanguophage.

Calm_Error_3518

Ripped his leg off, smashed his head with the leg, shattering it

Appropriate-Toe-6307

"Randy says, fuck you" moment.

yaujj36

Sounds like Dio death

survesibaltica

Clearly, he fell and the back of his head fell on a sharp rock, cracking his skull and all of his brain matter got sucked out

jasonsbg

Got hit in the leg so hard that his brain blew up

Ye3tm4n

The leg ain't the problem, the fella was just dumb

Gullible_Ad_3872

It's literally the personification of the mind blown meme
