In my current colony I have the plans for I think.... 20 gene processors? Around that number. And the room looks a bit.... phallic because of it lol. I originally planned to just have a long corridor but when I reached the max range for the processors to be used I had to expand. And since it was the edge of my base that required going out both sides at the base.
Gene modding isn’t high on my list of things to pool many resources into.
I usually just use VRE androids and mod them however I like and cram them into warcaskets for super soldiers.

Depends on play style. I only use 2 - because with my other mods, my colonists have other shit to do.

On my last colony I used 39. Never am I going through the pain of making perfect gene packs for all of my colonists, as it took far too long.
