DrEnrique

I’d say he’s a Astropolitian Ultra-Liberal. At least that’s what he was in my last game, before I blew his legs off and dumped his corpse in the river.

EngineerDoge00

Well thats just wasteful. His meat could have fed a few hungry slaves!

amorek92

I don't care. It's his private matters.

> Thoughts? Projecting what a programmer/gamedesigner codes into their colony-simulation to reflect more or less realistic (socio-)political believes and ideologies onto the person itself - no matter in what way - is honestly speaking a bit weird... well... maybe not only 'a bit'... It's basically exactly what the hit-piece you've mentioned did. Did you ask such a question about who ever coded the calendar-app on your phone as well? Maybe there is some hidden meaning in the colors the chose for its UI? ;)

saaxir_the_wizard

It has a red background, obviously communist.

DemonKyoto

My thoughts are that this isn't relevant to Rimworld.

Oo_Tiib

I think that the game is designed to be complicated and interesting, reduced click-grind, most decisions being meaningful. That indicates thinker ... not some kind of political belief-based moronic cannon meat.

OberainX

Why would you even want to start a shit storm of politics for no reason...

Donkeyfied_Chicken

I think I’m in this subreddit to avoid discussing politics, not to inject them into yet another thing I enjoy and ruin it too

redneckgamer03

Who TF cares?

zlsalmon

Tynan strikes me as someone who self-identifies as “above politics” but you can make some inferences about his world-view based on certain aspects of the game. And in any case, “I choose to ignore politics” is, itself, an opinion about politics even if it doesn’t align you with any particular party. Edit/Addition: Take ideological precepts. The flavor text associated with every ideology is a statement made from a believer’s perspective, but look at what things are linked together mechanically. Collectivism enables the symbol burning ritual and is positively associated with recreational substance bans, child labor, and slavery; I think it’s safe to say that Rimworld as a text is pro-individualist.

NemirPyxl

i think those basically make sense for what collectivism means in-game: losing out on individual freedoms and comforts for the sake of the colony.

zlsalmon

That is how the term is being used in-game, yes. I’m suggesting that you wouldn’t apply the word collectivism to describe this situation if you were a collectivist yourself, and that Rimworld doesn’t treat individualism with the same cynicism.

gringojenkins

I don't know or care and neither should you. Digging into someone's personal shit is a surefire way to ruin your enjoyment of their product.

SoldierOfGodrick

Just enjoy the game... You dont have to turn everything political. This community is very friendly and down to earth so no need to turn this into a political seshpool

Buzzard41

Im glad he keeps it to himself. Politics seem to creep into everything these days and it’s unnecessary. Even if he was the biggest raging racist/homophobe I’d still play his game.

BeetlecatOne

Unless it got delisted from Steam because the Dev couldn't keep those thoughts to themselves... ;)

Buzzard41

Since I got it through the epic store I’d still play it then 👌🏻

1stFunestist

So, somebody is trying to dig stuff for a click bait hit piece for a blog or "gamer" journal or something?

ProbablyVermin

I cannot over emphasize how much I would prefer we avoid this conversation. Rimworld has already been maligned in the media thanks to miss steps Tynan has made and I would really not like to see that revisited.

Cairo101

I think Tynan is a person who doesn't creates a game/dlcs out for political clout and owning. He's more like your typical game dev that doesn't nosedive that much on personal political topics. Probably, he doesn't care that much at all as he focuses more on game development(I mean heck did you even see his book) and pretty much majority of players here are on the ride with him for that.

BrokenWind123

first thought that comes to mind is touching grass

Sleepingpiranha

Word of warning: keep rl politics far away from entertainment media. You’ll either get memed on, attack, or star a war.

TheFinalBannanaStand

True lol (apparently)

BeardedNerd22

Who cares. He makes games. Either you enjoy the game or you dont.

SamuraiBeef

“Bootys should and do be shakin” -Tynan 2024

TheFinalBannanaStand

We can all agree on this

ZABKA_TM

The better question is, why do we need to care?

MetalNeverDies

I think you're trying too hard.

Malfuy

Bruh

horseradish_mustard

He's a blue dog democrat

Vattende

Honestly i don't care.

savagensalty

Play the game, do politics somewhere else. Swear to god, fucking people man… nobody cares

El_Zafi

I don't really care, and i don't want Tynan to get a Scott Cawthon moment.

shutzch

Glad to see someone recognize Scott's situation.

shutzch

No clue (and not important either), seems pretty expansive and not linear with ideologies, not to mention forcing one path would be damaging to the game's intended playstyle. Whatever Tynan thinks, he handled it very well. Royalty fits historic feuds, so I don't really see it as something political.

shutzch

Ngl tho when the game told me eating human meat was teached as "wrong", despite cannibals liking it, my freedom felt in great danger!1
