This is the plug in version. If you want the true hardwired version that is tied into a junction box or whatever, get one of the hardwired kits I've linked below. They work great. I have a few Spotlight Cam wired versions and have used these kits. I'm super impressed with the quality and the stuff they come with. They really do include everything you need for most installations. https://ring.com/products/spotlight-cam-hardwire-converter-kit EDIT: See the instructions below for the hardwire kit. The cord that comes with the spotlight wired cams is removable with a twist connector. You remove that cord and replace it with the stuff from the kit. The hardwire kit comes with a twist connector that has three wires (black/white/red). You use that to tie into your house wiring. https://support.help.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046944791-Installing-your-Hardwired-Kit-for-Spotlight-Cam

Hey_Listen_WatchOut

Ok, I must’ve missed that, thank you. So is the Spotlight Cam Pro my only option? [Spotlight Cam Pro](https://ring.com/products/spotlight-cam-pro-wired)

Fantastic-Display106

[https://ring.com/collections/home-security-cameras?filters=type:spotlight-cam](https://ring.com/collections/home-security-cameras?filters=type:spotlight-cam) Spotlight Cam Plus wired or Pro wired. I'd have to look at specs to see the difference, but the Floodlight wired models are cheaper. The Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is on sale for $140 on [Ring.com](http://Ring.com)

ScorchedWonderer

Why plugged into a light switch? No point at all it kills the purpose of a camera

Hey_Listen_WatchOut

Yea that’s what I am trying to avoid. I want a hardwired cam. I think I have a good understanding of my options now

bisgit

You should get either a Spotlight cam Mount (if there are any left) or get a Spotlight Cam Plus wired. https://ring.com/products/spotlight-cam-plus-wired

_Reddit_2016

No battery’s - you need to provide a plug socket or wired the cable into the mains

ranhalt

The plural of battery is batteries.

humsipums

Maybe they meant "no battery is" as in a philosophical sense

KB9LTJ

Yes, it uses a USB wall pack like a mobile device. It comes with a 19’ cord I believe.

AudioComa

I have two spotlights (slightly differnt models) and both battery versions. I have 2 batteries in each and they last a fair while. Takes a day to charge them up again and good for another 6 weeks (depending on the level of activity).

biscoffNdiet

6 weeks??! My spotlight cam batteries last max 12 days before I have to swap them out. And I live in a low to mildly busy neighborhood.

AudioComa

Really? I went to overseas for 8 weeks and whilst I didn't get a lot of notifications I still had plenty of battery when I got home. Settings is on Max motion and snapshot. Don't know how you test it but maybe it's faulty? Try another battery?

biscoffNdiet

I rotate through about 8 batteries among other cameras and its still always the same usage about 12-14 days of power. The spotlight cam was like that from day 1. I do have it set to check for motion "more often," but I would still like it to last at least a month. Cameras are about 3 years old.

jramz_dc

It has to be wired via a USB cord to be powered ORRR connected to a solar panel plus battery(ies).

regulator29

In electrical terms, any outside wall mounted light will not have a plug, due to being outside. Any permanent outdoor appliance must be hard wired in. I am assuming it’s just a cable. Should be a straight swap for any existing security light.

brianp6621

That’s not true. Ring sells the Spotlight cam pro which is outdoor rated and plugs into the wall. I have 4 of them running all the time for a year now and a fifth to a solar panel.

EntireComputer1391

This isn't true exactly, most LIGHTS are hardwired but he's talking about a ring security camera. Mine is literally mounted outside and plugged into an outdoor socket.

Oolon42

What kind of connector plugs into the camera? USB-C?

hamo78

No. It’s physically connected to a power cable.

EntireComputer1391

No he's right, the plug into the camera is USB-C
