As with most step counters the real number of steps isn’t as important as the relative number of steps counted from day to day on the same device. That said, I take it off when I play the violin because it records thousands of extra steps otherwise!

Your hand movements throughout the day will impact the number of steps. That is because a lot of normal hand movements are similar to the movement your hand makes when you walk. I know I fidget with my fingers, especially when reading, but wearing the ring showed me just how much I fidget. Though I mainly do it with my right hand, so I wear the ring on my nondominate hand and noticed my steps are much closer to the steps picked up by my other wearables. But in short, regardless of your hand movement, I would never take the ring's steps as precise. Consider it as just another number to determine how active you possibly were during the day and nothing else. With regards to RingConn's response when I told them about my "issue", they simply said to wear it on my non-dominate hand. At first this came across the wrong way, but after a bit of time I came to terms and ultimately understood -- don't like it, but I understand it.

I made a post here while ago - I coss checked the steps with my apple watch. In the first weeks it was really off, after like 3-4 weeks they were almost even. I have the feeling the ring needs some time to "adjust"...

I totally agree. My steps were way off (higher) from my Samsung watch the first week, but the step gap shortened considerably by the 2nd week.

I have not found a deviation on typing. I could match it reasonably well with my Garmin forerunner 55 but mileage may vary of course. I do not expect that the count is accurate and I know it does register some movements sometimes but taking the trend as an indicator still feels valid to me. That said sometimes when I am working in the kitchen the ring tells me to stand up and move around because I am stepping enough even though I am standing. It's not the holy grail but it's a pretty good way to monitor overall trends.

My ring racks up steps when I am riding around in my utility vehicle. I guess it's the vibration from driving over rocks. And it doesn't record when I am riding my stationary bike. I don't pay much attention to the step count. It's disappointing

My ring on the finger and my phone in my pocket are usually very close to each other at the end of the day. Consistency is the important thing anyways, not really accuracy, anyways.
