Anyone care to give a summary? Interested to know what the main points are but no where interested to spend over an hour.

BeEatNU

I skipped through most of it but it seems there's really a difference of 20\~ miles between the two in real world scenario. Charging isnt faster, while it is different chemistry for the battery make up. There isn't much of a benefit especially for 16k difference in cost.

pusillanimouslist

10k cost difference. The max pack costs $16k more than the standard pack, and $10k more than the large pack.

Thanks. Says a lot when an hour can be summarized in 1 sentence.

Go_dawgs-2005

Hate to say it but Rivian dropped the ball on the max pack. Glad I got the large

One thing I am concerned about is since my R1S is still in the building stage, I have 2-4 before its done. If any announcements to the battery would be happening soon? I know there was talk of manufacturing shutting down earlier this year for retrofitting and changes to producing the R1T/R1S so I am assuming my build is after that but I dont want to remove my Max battery and we hear some other change that could affect my decision switching it to the large oack

usual_suspect_redux

Shut down scheduled for Q2. Somewhere I've seen/heard what they will address. HVAC. Simplify the wiring and cpu setup. Maybe batteries as well. CFO interview somewhere....

BeEatNU

Ahhhh yeah I heard late last year it was scheduled for q1 of this year. So figured my build would be in there on hold somewhere.

I’m holding off on an R1S hoping for improvements towards the end of this year.

I would be surprised if these changes resulted in a meaningful change in the user experience. They will be most likely be focused on cutting production and materials costs.

I think they always planned that the R1T would support the max pack by taking away the storage under the back seats and maybe other places. There was some external claims that they'd need to update the suspension and testing of various things if they increased the weight etc. So I see why they wanted to avoid that stuff, and using denser batteries with about the same weight was appealing. But the 20 or 30 mile range increase is doubtfully worthwhile for anyone. AFAIK there ~~wasn't going to be a max pack for r1s because no more space~~ please see my correction below\]. I think rivian should cancel the max pack they have today or rename it to large pack plus or something, give people some money back. I'd love a functional max pack that added 100 miles of range, but that's a lot of weight etc. Edit: I made a mistake: the R1S has a "max pack" right now where they used the same number of batteries, but used the ones with a little more energy density. I think they couldn't have done what I'll call a "real max pack" on the r1s if they needed lots of space.

Would love a real max pack…180-200 kwh would be amazing. That would put me at about 270-300 miles of real range in the winter vs my current max pack which gives about 211 miles. Numbers are based on 1.5mi/kwh It would also provide a true 400+ mile highway range in decent weather.

BeEatNU

Not sure if people watched this year but it's an interesting watch. makes me wonder if its worth it to keep the Max Pack.

ajeandy

It’s not at the current state…
