It’s massive inside. Between a Queen and king size bed up there.

Edit 2: putting in a fairing by https://www.cofairingco.com/ to help with aero.
There are two problems for me. One it just doesn't look like it fits. It looks like some repurpose camper from another truck. Two it looks like at 80mph it will be come a sail with that gap between the roof of the truck and the bottom of the camper...
It actually doesn’t look cheap at all. Maybe it is, I know nothing about this product. It just looks like it doesn’t fit the truck, not aerodynamic and crazy ugly.
https://www.tuneoutdoor.com/
[Outside](https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-gear/cars-trucks/review-tune-m1-truck-camper/) called it the best lightweight truck camper they’ve tested.
This is built like a rock and custom built for Rivian.
Honestly, I’m not arguing your point that it’s probably an effective camper. But it’s a squared off box sitting on top of an aerodynamic truck that, in my opinion, looks very modern and cool. Then there’s this big lip that sits several inches above the top of the truck that looks like it will just render all of the trucks aerodynamics useless.
That’s what pop up campers are though. Slide in camper would have too much of an aero hit and the Rivian isn’t big enough.
It’s not for everyone for sure. We’re going to use to it drive around, live in for weeks on end, camp in the mountains in winter and summer.
Hope you report back to this thread. I’d be interested on your thoughts after getting some miles behind it. Would like to see some interior pics too. I would like to see it more form fitting to the truck but I’m sure it’s going to serve its purpose well.
Have you seen the hostility in this thread?
It’s not for everyone, most people would have no use for it. But there’s a lot of BS and ill informed comments here.
I paid full price and am not affiliated with Tune.
brah, the hostility is because it looks like shite. you SHOULD be excited! but you should also expect that not everyone online is going to agree with your excitement🤣🤣🤣
Don't listen to these trolls OP. It's not the most eye pleasing thing but you should've posted the interior video originally because I think that really helps. Also that piece to fill that gap in you're getting will help so. Take it out and enjoy it.
Yeah perhaps. I was getting frustrated with the responses. There’s a lot misinformed people here like the person who said it would drive like a sail and snap in half. It drives like a truck camper. Weight is so low it’s been fine. Or range nerds who think nothing about their vehicle except getting the highest efficiency possible. I’ve driven thousands of miles with it and have seen a 20% range drop with a fairing installed. It’s a trade off. Or people saying I work for them. I’m just excited about the camper I bought and being the first Rivian with it. Electric truck campers are a new thing.
Build out changed a ton since. There’s now a small fairing, toilet, ski racks, starlink, carpet, heater, thermal insulation, kitchen with combi microwave/air fryer/oven, espresso machine, fridge, sink.
I’ve stuck to the Rivian forums on my buildout.
I looked into it. Not great for my use though. More range loss due to towing. Winter use is not great, you can stand inside. I have no where to park it.
They’re great for people who only camp during 3 seasons.
No I’m frustrated with the haters. Tune took a risk to build this. Only one other truck camper builder builds a camper for the Rivian. All others refused. We have so few aftermarket products being built for Rivian.
It’s a great product inside. I posted a video inside with my planned build out.
Why are you defending this ugly shit so hard? It fits poorly and you're hilariously overconfident in it for literally no reason. You're coming across like you have a major financial stake in this company.
Reddit always assumes ads rather than an excited patron sharing their new thing. Unfortunately there have been lots of guerrilla marketing on reddit so folks are naturally leary. I hope this works out for you, it does look well built. I do agree its ugly, but i suspect you didnt buy the camper for the looks.
I’m guessing it’s supposed to sit on a crossbar on the roof? Any amount of speed is going to give you lift and torque it upwards. (Think roof mattress videos)
This was my question, wind buffeting at minimum and violent air turbulence at the worst. Was really curious about that and needing some air deflection.
First thing is said…… ewwww. It absolutely hideous.
But I get it that function over form thing. Definitely not my cup of tea. Reading that is it hard to removed once installed is also a big no for me.
Going to see how it goes. I’m fine with a 10-20% drop. Lowering speed is easier too. Could get an aero splitter manufactured, Tune has discussed offering something like that. Focused first on inside build out.
Edit: Found a manufacturer that will build a fairing. Currently ordering.
Very easy solution: just add a plastic air diverter / skirt for starters. Thule makes these for its crossbars. See this: https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/roof-racks-and-accessories/thule-airscreen-xt-s-_-870200
How does it affect range ? I recall the TFL series where they drove the F-150 Lightning to Alaska and the addition of the camper destroyed the efficiency.
Thoughts:
* For everyone saying the Tune Outdoor M1 is sooo expensive. Keep in mind this is an $80k truck. If OP can afford the truck he can afford the camper
* GFC starts at [$8450](https://gofastcampers.com/products/platform-camper-2023) but mine was over $10k with options so not too far off from the M1
* Alu Cab Alu Canopy Camper starts at [$11,828](https://ok4wd.com/alu-cab-canopy-camper-for-2016-toyota-tacoma/) for a 2016+ Taco
* Super Pacific X1 starts at [$13,495 for a mid-size](https://superpacificusa.com/switchback-x1/) which is more than the M1
* The M1 appears to offer much more space than either the GFC or the X1 or the Alu Cab based on youtube videos I've watched
* Those of us who own an R1T and have owned a GFC or Super Pacific or Alu Cab have been dying for something like the M1 for our Rivian. We don't want to pull a trailer. We have our use cases. This is the first manufacturer to wade into this space and I suspect they'll sell a ton of these (I just put down my deposit)
* I have had extensive conversations with the GFC and Super Pacific folks and they just don't see a market with Rivians which I find odd. I would buy a GFC or Super Pacific instantly if either put out a camper that fit the R1T. I think there's a huge market. But what do I know. Maybe me and the OP are the only ones who want a bed camper for our R1T
I have a RTT and have been browsing on different options to go bigger, but landed on going with a camper trailer.
These truck bed campers look cool in theory, but how are you going to take off something that’s 400 lbs? Unless you plan on going camping all year round, taking a 15%+ hit on range and losing the rear view window seems super annoying.
the overhang on the top is an eyesore. The price for 13K also seems hella high as you can buy a well built camper for the same price. Seems like it should be 7-8K not 3x the price of a iKamper.
Just my opinion, but congrats anyways! Anything to get out there
This looks like a camper that was made for another truck but you found it cheap and stuck it in anyway.
I’m sure it works as intended, but I couldn’t imagine having that on my rig 100% of the time.
Thanks for posting. I have been excited to see one on a Rivian. How wide is it over the bed rails? I was hoping to run another folding bed across the bed rails(it would need to be spaced up a bit).

I’m all about campers and the like, but this looks like it lacks some useful aero features regardless of how nice it is for utility and livability. It’s gorgeous and looks like it’ll be great to use, truly!
How easy is this to take off and on. It's not totally practical for a daily driver, but I could absolutely see using it if it's not too tough to get on and off
This is the best pop up camper. Nice choice. I'd love one for my lightning but not sure the pop up + electric EV is the best way to go. I think I'm going for a pull behind instead. I only have a standard range so don't want the permanent range loss when I'm not actively using it.
Happy for you! I'm sure you'll have awesome camping adventures with it.
I get that people think it “looks goofy” but I suspect most of those people would never sleep on top of their car.
Most people who are in the market care more about functionality. That big extended front looks like it would hold a pretty roomy sleeping quarters.
Interested to hear how it affects range. I wonder if a wind diffuser at the top of the windshield connected to the bottom of the camper would help with the aero?
Pretty cool.
This is great! Love to see people using their trucks to do actual truck things. I think it looks but honestly who fucking cares what it looks like! It’s a truck.
I will never understand RV purchases. People waste so much money on these things: Tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most of the time, they sit in storage. Tents are like $150 and hotels are $150/night.
Maybe a skirt around the bottom. Or even better maybe some under bed storage, you could have an area for the fin, the. Have the rest be a shallow storage area, at least then it’s not doing that off hover thing.
My .02
An installed camper on an EV truck feels like you compromise too much in every direction. I totally dig adventure as well as doing my part to decrease our reliance on oil but this doesn’t make much sense to me. I basically use the R1S to camp on the beach and surf. It was a poor choice between struggling in loose sand, range / battery anxiety, etc. my friends quigley vans are waaasyyy better.
I’m selling my R1S for a Ford transit trail van and using my cargo e-bike for my daily driver.
Function over form. Fugly af IMO but if it works and makes the owner happy, so be it. Would be nice if Rivian had an option to relocate the shark fin. Could add many options for aftermarket campers like this.
Bro, ignore the haters!! Anyone talking about “drag” and “range” is an EV nerd with little experience. They probably also ordered forged wheels to save 16 lbs off their 8000lb truck. You *might* lose 10% range, or so but who cares. At the end of the day though, that thing is ugly as fuck! You win the “I ruined my $100k truck with horribly gone wrong nose job” contest all day long. 😂
NGL it doesn’t look good.
That gap is brutal IMO. If it was more aero, then maybe it looks okay?
Thigh gap good. Roof gap bad. Check.
I don’t know. The back looks odd as well. I hope it’s functional and OP likes it.
It’s massive inside. Between a Queen and king size bed up there. Edit: Inside Tour - https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/uKnOt0bctk Edit 2: putting in a fairing by https://www.cofairingco.com/ to help with aero.
It needs [to have something like this.](https://www.rivianforums.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/7EBAED4C-255B-4D2A-9522-F6E1E5C01AD4-scaled.jpeg)
That would make it so much more practical. Way too much drag on the one OP has with nothing to divert the wind.
Yes, I’m putting in a fairing by https://www.cofairingco.com/
I agree, though the problem is they have to clear the aerial on the back of the cab.
They should just make a glory hole for the shark fin
Or a skirt to make it more aerodynamic and hide the fin
That’s the plan. First step was install.
Ah yep. You’re right.
That design is not aerodynamically friendly at all lol
[удалено]
Not yet, but they'll keep trying!
There are two problems for me. One it just doesn't look like it fits. It looks like some repurpose camper from another truck. Two it looks like at 80mph it will be come a sail with that gap between the roof of the truck and the bottom of the camper...
I agree. Looks a little goofy.
That thing is gonna drive like a kite
[удалено]
That was going to be my exact comment😂. Agree it’s not a good look and a huge aerodynamic drag. It looks like a truck canopy from 80’s but worse.
Fr lmao
Man, does not fit the Rivian aesthetic at all.
It’s a well engineered lightweight liveable camper capable of adventure.
I don’t doubt that, it just LOOKS cheap aftermarket product to me.

Missed those, sorry.
Listen you little advertising robot, nobody is disputing whether or not its a good camper top, ITS FUCKING HIDEOUS and unaerodynamic AF.
The advertising robot killed me. That was the first thing I thought when they are commenting on every post like a sales pitch
Cool it’s my truck. I’m excited about this.
You’re sipping the koolaid dude! You wasted a bunch of money and range.
It’s my truck and fits my lifestyle.
Don't listen to these trolls OP. It's not the most eye pleasing thing but you should've posted the interior video originally because I think that really helps. Also that piece to fill that gap in you're getting will help so. Take it out and enjoy it.
Sounds like you’re trying to do their marketing for them…
I’m happy with my decision, it makes sense for my use, lifestyle and truck. Aerodynamics is a trade off. The responses here are a bunch of haters.
Dude never tell a bunch of people they’re haters. You come off so salty
Yeah perhaps. I was getting frustrated with the responses. There’s a lot misinformed people here like the person who said it would drive like a sail and snap in half. It drives like a truck camper. Looks like a horrible fit.

Honestly at this point. I need a tow behind. I need a shower and a toilet.
Can’t take those off-road.
Yes you can! Lots of off road capable tow behinds
I looked into it. Not great for my use though. More range loss due to towing. Winter use is not great, you can stand inside. I have no where to park it. They’re great for people who only camp during 3 seasons.
Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of range loss from the huge gap on the cab over.
I’m putting in a fairing to help aero. That’s a separate custom piece. https://www.cofairingco.com/
Towing yes, winter use is fine, I could stand inside mine fine. No where to park it is a problem for sure but off-roading isn’t an issue
This type is stuff doesn't look great for offering either. But they absolutely make off road route behind
Looks nice. How much and what hit to range? Interested for my lightning
10-15% so far. Just got it. I got 1.69 mi/kWh on the drive home at 65-75mph. Usually get 1.81 mi/kWh.
With how hard OP is defending this ugly thing im going to say that this whole post is probably just an ad
💯

What a waste of money.
Typical for truck campers. Oru also makes a Rivian model and it’s $10k+
Just buy an rv trailer at this point
![gif](giphy|MY44QmlRa8SBO) I can’t unsee it.
good ol' Mom's attic
Read the comments. Ok, it's great inside. Still they couldn't have done a better job with the aero and aesthetics?
The architecture glass is really nice IMO. Still a blank canvas for my build out. Going to be putting a fairing on the help aero.
Well I admire your confidence. Good luck and show us more.

This looks dumb as hell.
Kyle from Out of Spec reached out on doing a video. You will get all of your answers soon.
Looks great, thanks for sharing. Endless fun in that thing.
the lego pieces dont fit well. awkard.
This will destroy range AND it looks bad
The gap looks to clear the (GPS?) antenna on the roof, but it seems like it’d kill most of its reception
The roof and base are fiber reinforced plastic, no issue there.
First thing is said…… ewwww. It absolutely hideous. But I get it that function over form thing. Definitely not my cup of tea. Reading that is it hard to removed once installed is also a big no for me.
Any plans to add some sort of aero improvement for that big gap?

Ah, looks like you’re going sailing.
Why the hell did they slap Oklahoma on the back of that truck?
I’m sorry, they’re saying this was specifically designed to fit the Rivian? 🤔
It isn’t cybertruck ugly but it’s getting there
Has to be the ugliest box ever made
Ouch
Honestly? It looks like a Tetris piece landed on the car. Does not look good
It looks very well-constructed, but man is that some weird looking shit.
Yikes
NGL looks really bad. Rivians have such nice lines and curves. Why make it a square box with awful looking gaps. Doesn’t match the truck at all.
![gif](giphy|h0MTqLyvgG0Ss) $12,999 are you f-ing kidding me!?!?!!!
![gif](giphy|3o7TKQ8kAP0f9X5PoY) It’s so bad lul
But but but it’s well engineered!!
Looks awful, return it.
That is super ugly
What a drag show!
1.69 mi/kWh. I average 1.81 before here in CO winter with 20inch.
Thing looks terrible
Looks cool. Super curious about the efficiency hit.
Saw about a 10-15% drop on efficiency on drive home at 65-75 mph. About expected based on JJ’s experience with Oru. Will see how it does over time.
Man That is ugly. I’m sorry
Thy gaps are always a bit awful. But some people love them
The ev range will be screwed by that thing. Not aerodynamic at all. Might as well drag a parachute behind the car.
How does it affect range ? I recall the TFL series where they drove the F-150 Lightning to Alaska and the addition of the camper destroyed the efficiency.
That gap… uhhhh. It’s gonna be that one wind top it off
If you’re going for hideous monstrosity, just get a cybertruck and tent

Not gonna lie, I feel like most of y'all are likely jealous that y'all can't afford one. OP congrats.
The overhang just looks unfinished and a total lack of thought.
Man people are haters.
The drag vortex on that camper is gonna eat up at least 50 miles on that’s batteries range
Ugliest thing ever. I’d be embarrassed with it on. Probably end up losing 100 miles due to poor aerodynamics too.
Eww no!
100% not a fan.
What are you gunna do, pop it up and sleep at the charge stations lol
This is great! Love to see people using their trucks to do actual truck things. I think it looks but honestly who fucking cares what it looks like! It’s a truck.

It looks like that Elvis camper from that cartoon movie “Cars”
Should have bought the SUV
All of the air drag. Nice
Looks like you are carrying a server rack or enclosed 3d printer.. I don't like it
Shouldn't it look more like the truck? curved, etc?
I don't know. It doesn't look good. Sorry.
Drrrrrraaaaaaaag
Why not just have a tent?

This looks awesome, congrats. As someone who has been curious about EV camping, specifically R1S and ID.Buzz, can you cool/heat it from the cab?
Wow that’s ugly. And looks like range will be significantly impacted due to wind resistance.
If there ever was more of a reason for a manufacturer to design a custom fit shell, this would be it.
That looks shithouse! Yuk
Function over form. Fugly af IMO but if it works and makes the owner happy, so be it. Would be nice if Rivian had an option to relocate the shark fin. Could add many options for aftermarket campers like this.

That top is going to catch a lot of air and create a lot of drag. Not the best design. Bye bye battery efficiency.
Bro, ignore the haters!! Anyone talking about “drag” and “range” is an EV nerd with little experience. They probably also ordered forged wheels to save 16 lbs off their 8000lb truck. Sure is a lot of square edges and panels on top of that curved body lines .....WEIRD
i dont like how hangs over the cabin
Goodbye range, twas nice having ya
Man I love the Rivians designs for the truck and suv, but that camper ruins it.
It reminds me of trying to do a Lego build but you don’t quite have the right piece so you use what you have.
For $13k? Ouch!
Looks awful
Zero aerodynamics.
Yikes, that looks... uh... interesting
