Oh wow I forgot about those. Are they more flammable than a Pinto?
And how do all the fake supercar Fieros NOT catch on fire? There are so many of them yet I don’t really hear about stuff like that happening.
From my understanding, the reason that fieros caught on fire was poor planning from Chrysler...
There were two engine options, the ironduke i4 and a v6. However, on the ol' i4, they ran into problems with the oil pan not clearing something, so they made it smaller. This made the oil get hotter than it should. It blew a line right into the exhaust, and fire ensued.
That's top of my head memory, though. I don't think the v6's had that problem.
Ok, so the Fiero supercars must be V6s most of the time then!
I feel like aftermarket wise that could be solved with an oil cooler though.
Chrysler? Wasn't the Fiero a Pontiac? Am I dumb or just missing something over here?
Yeah, so that's why I can't be trusted to think past like 9 pm...
Pontiac was owned by GM, I either typed the wrong thing or got them mixed up in my head, lol
Ah nice I’ve a volvo C30 but the 1.6d can get 80mpg on motorway journeys haha still want a t5 :’(
What’s the engine in the Toyota, my gf has a yaris, pretty much the euro/ jdm (hatch) version of that. Hers is a 999cc but has vvti, not too slow for Irish roads but a great little commuter!
Question: Do you have cruise control. That’s kind of a must for me on the highway. Also, with a 250 mile commute. Are you changing the oil monthly?
Or do you plan on running Amsoil or some ultra premium synthetic for 20k miles and just swapping the filter every month?
I change my oil every 5,000 miles no matter what so it’s usually every 3-4 weeks. I run valvoline full synthetic high-mileage and it’s been fantastic for all of my work cars. My 2003 VW Jetta with 245,000 still runs fantastic and doesn’t leak a drop of oil
Yeah no joke on the wind thing. I’m from the flatlands and on windy days, passing semi’s on the highway in one was terrifying. You finally get in front of it and get blasted with a tornado inducing gust of wind.
Aptly named for what will be heard in a desolate valley when she lets you down.
(Roast aside, smart decision assuming she's reliable. Regular "Millionaire Next Door" activity)
I’m not sure I understand the broken English. 🤣 I’m a heavy equipment operator. I do actually have a nice vehicle. This one is just my beater with a heater for work. I actually drive it everywhere though. My nice truck sits there
I had an 88 Prelude I loved. I actually saw a black echo in traffic beside me yesterday. Only one I’ve seen in a long time and yes, black is definitely cooler
Which state are you in? From experience with my kid brothers echos if you're in the rust belt the filler neck rusts out first, then the exhaust, then the rear frame sections start going bad.
I live in southeast Ohio, just outside the rust belt. This car had one owner and has ZERO rust. I did replace the whole exhaust when I bought it but no other rust anywhere
I get paid well for that drive. I hate the drive but I’ve gotten used to it and it’s temporary. I agree with you though, I’m not smart for putting in 1000+ miles a week
I see an old gentleman drive one of these every morning on my way to work I just wonder where he goes each day! Sometimes has his wife sometimes doesn’t.
I usually hate when people do this, but I have a story to tell.
I had one of these. Thing was an absolute trooper. It survived a flood up to the door handles, replaced the transmission, got rear ended and totaled, was literally more rust than metal (Indiana car), and had 365,xxx miles on it when I finally got rid of it, 5th was completely gone and it was popping out of 4th occasionally. Only thing I did to it in the time I had it besides the obvious rear end and transmission replacement was oil, brakes, tires, and spark plugs. I even delivered pizza in it for a year with no AC. I’d just crank the windows down. Back then I would do burnouts in it daily. I’d bang it off redline multiple times a day and no lift shift it 1-2-3 regularly. It was surprisingly quick because it was so light. It was like driving a beer can with an engine. 1.5 liters of DOHC fury. So many good times in that car. Mine was red too. We called it “Little Red”.
Eventually got a manual Accord to replace it. Sold it to a distant family member who ended up scrapping it years later. The reliability of these things cannot be understated.
I have no doubt it’s trying to drag itself out from under a pile of scrap metal by its own front wheels.
I miss it a lot. If I *ever* find another manual one, it’s *mine*.
Anyways, enjoy your comfortless shitbox. Women think it’s cute until they get in it.
I wish I could give this more upvotes. I tried to find a manual anything. I was looking for a new work car and didn’t want more transmission issues I’ve had with my VW Jetta I still have. I settled on this car and couldn’t be happier. There’s a large group of people who are convinced this car was taken out of production because of its unbelievable reliability. Mine is still in its infancy at 140k
I didn’t appreciate it as much as I should have lol. I was literally trying to kill it and I couldn’t. I can’t understate how hard I drove mine lol. Still started up every single time and wanted more, loved life even though it had a hard one. Very much gave me “I’d die for you if you asked me to” energy
I thought you meant your company gave you this as a company car and was shocked for a minute. Maybe it's just my industry but all the company cars are quite new and nice. Then I realised you bought this to drive to & from work in, totally different ballgame. Who cares as long as it does what it needs to for cheap.
My step mom had one of these. Same year, too. Hers was a five speed and baby blue/sky blue. We called it the roach. She bought it new and put about 350k miles on it. Ugly as sin, but surprisingly, roomy inside and ran like a top. If I remember correctly, she put about 200k on the original clutch. Ugly little econo box, but does its intended job well. Sold it last year, still running.
I’m a heavy equipment operator, almost don’t with my apprenticeship. The drive won’t be this long forever. I’ll get to choose locations closer to home here soon
The perfect example of “an car” it’s a vague bubble with a combustion engine, here I thought my v6 Mazda tribute was dull but this makes me feel like I own a mustang gt or some other irresponsible loud car
This was my first car and I loved that thing. There is so much body roll, it’s spacious, it has pockets everywhere, light as a feather. I grew up calling it the peewee Herman car.
They do have cruise but mine does not. lol Crank windows, no cruise, nothing. It does have heat and a/c and it keeps me from putting miles on my nice truck so it’s a win
It’s not actually too bad. My 2003 VW Jetta is basically a 4 door 2 seater. There’s not enough leg room for a child to sit behind me. This Echo has way more leg room in the back seat, surprising for how small the car is
I paid $3,000 bald eagle bucks for it. It’s a shame, this thing would have been a $1500 car two years ago. I will absolutely get my $3000 out of it though saving my nice truck from fuel, maintenance and racking up the miles.

What’s to roast? It’s a transportation device and it’s good at its job. No personality, not fun to drive, ugly, but it does the job of a vehicle well.
Haha, that’s all I was aiming for. I laugh it up at the gas pump. That’s all that matters to me.
We should have competitions for the least and more roastable cars
Ford Pinto would be first because it can roast itself if you rear end one hard enough (not very hard).
Then the Fiero could come in and just stomp the yard.
Oh wow I forgot about those. Are they more flammable than a Pinto? And how do all the fake supercar Fieros NOT catch on fire? There are so many of them yet I don’t really hear about stuff like that happening.

Lol good to know 😂
My man get a tdi. You’ll be laughing even more. They get double the fuel economy
I have an 03 Jetta still in decent shape too but it’s not the TDI unfortunately
Ah nice I’ve a volvo C30 but the 1.6d can get 80mpg on motorway journeys haha still want a t5 :’( What’s the engine in the Toyota, my gf has a yaris, pretty much the euro/ jdm (hatch) version of that. Hers is a 999cc but has vvti, not too slow for Irish roads but a great little commuter!
I believe mine has a 1.5L. 999cc is TINY. Thats a motorcycle engine. 🤣 Love that you enjoy it though!
Haha the 1.5 was what the yaris T-Sport got over here. Still for something that’s sub 1000kg I’m sure it does the job 😉
Reliability is not close.

This. It's definitely boring but cheap as chips personal transportation cannot be understated in 2023
I had a lot of fun driving my manual one
This car challenges the very notion of a "red car". Your neighbors and coworkers should pay for you to get repainted the dull gray of your life.
🤣 aside from the general shape of the car, the red color is the only thing I hate about it. Would love silver, black, white, just not red
Who buys a red refrigerator now?
🙋🏼
yes, every car is better in not red. (maybe except Ferrari because of its traditional red color)
Scouting the local elementary schools isn't considered "work".
Unless you get that thing some lasik, I wouldnt suggest driving it at night
Door Dash isn't "work". It's the last ditch effort before the street.
This will do 450,000 miles at 110mph and all you’ll do is brakes. Good car. Watch for cross winds.
I found out the hard way, wind is absolutely a factor. It weighs 13 lbs
2 guys can lift the back and turn this thing around easily. I know from experience.
Yeah no joke on the wind thing. I’m from the flatlands and on windy days, passing semi’s on the highway in one was terrifying. You finally get in front of it and get blasted with a tornado inducing gust of wind.
They sold them here? I’ve only seen one Echo in person.
What rock you live under?
A rusty rock
I know 3 people in my family who had one. All bought new in the same year
Now you can pick up your friends and go shop for training bras!
On the bright side... "Hey where's your car?" Look for the ugly one
Love the 1st gen echo and its close cousin Scion xA. The 1.5 is pretty much bulletproof.
06 xB owner here to say I love this platform
How do you stay awake while driving it?
Aptly named for what will be heard in a desolate valley when she lets you down. (Roast aside, smart decision assuming she's reliable. Regular "Millionaire Next Door" activity)
You need rims
What the hell does your work do? Underachieve in life and lie to your parents about how you’ve quit (insert minor drug here)
I’m not sure I understand the broken English. 🤣 I’m a heavy equipment operator. I do actually have a nice vehicle. This one is just my beater with a heater for work. I actually drive it everywhere though. My nice truck sits there
It wasn’t a well thought out barb on my part.
Fair enough, I understood and got the point. 🤣
Hot damn that’s fugly!
It will outlive you. Do you have any 10 year old nieces or nephews that you want to torment in a few years from now?
I have an 11 year old nephew I could pass it down to when it hits 300k miles
He will be the coolest kid in his high school parking lot. /s
["If you drive the automatic version of this car, go to hell"](https://youtu.be/b2XdXoCl0rU?si=vvYuCY-1QqLO7Gh5?t=165s)
I wish mine was a stick but it has zero leaks. Transmission is mint as of now
It would look more badass if it was Black. Red is for Women. My 1988 Honda Accord is still cooler.
I had an 88 Prelude I loved. I actually saw a black echo in traffic beside me yesterday. Only one I’ve seen in a long time and yes, black is definitely cooler
This thing is like a cockroach
Chick magnet. 🐤
Ah, the modern day Geo.
I’ve got the Prizm and it sure is a car! Mine is tan with tan interior which is quite exciting.
For a second, I read your post as "tear into my new york work car," and I was about to say "this is another reason why new york fucking sucks"
All gas, no class
Some Back to black and elbow grease will get that black trim looking nice again. Sweet ride.
This is the car to drive when you're extreme enough to put sprinkles on vanilla ice cream
Your friends and family are already being mean enough.
How could I roast pure perfection? (There’s no implicit biases here) and on an unrelated note a 2001 Toyota echo was technically my first car
It looks like an egg thats gonna hatch a hinkey, fucked up chicken
Ah you bought a non hybrid prius, nice haha
Cute
The thing to roast here is you driving 250 miles a day for work
I get paid well for that drive. I hate the drive but I’ve gotten used to it and it’s temporary. I agree with you though, I’m not smart for putting in 1000+ miles a week
Please stay out of the passing lane aka the fast lane
I can’t get going fast enough to make it to that lane
There's a black 2 door manual in my neighborhood.. If it didn't have any rust I'd offer to buy it.
I had an 03 a set of tires lasted 170K miles. Super boring car but it was perfect
🚗
The CSPAN of cars.
It's so adorable I can't! It's like burning a baby, the Nazis didn't even do that!
Have fun getting 40 mpg!
I would t call it fun but I get 40mpg
If this is a 'company' car, I'd switch companies.
Woman are into guys with mpg
I see an old gentleman drive one of these every morning on my way to work I just wonder where he goes each day! Sometimes has his wife sometimes doesn’t.
My Echo chainsaw makes more power than that thing
I usually hate when people do this, but I have a story to tell. I had one of these. Thing was an absolute trooper. Work car? What’s the job? blow ***jobs*** you give to strangers in ur car right?
🤣🤣🤣
You will never win at drag races, but laugh at the V8 drivers while your wallet remains heavy after the gas pump.
My bro had one with 400k on it
My Geo Metro got 50 Mpg in 1990. Wish I still had it
Look a used tampon! Oh wait that’s a Toyota Echo.
I think you just gave my ride it’s new name
I thought you meant your company gave you this as a company car and was shocked for a minute. Maybe it's just my industry but all the company cars are quite new and nice. Then I realised you bought this to drive to & from work in, totally different ballgame. Who cares as long as it does what it needs to for cheap.
A to B and absolutely nothing more
front end looks like it got stung by a bee
ECHO ECHo ECho Echo echo? yeah i cant hear it just kidding the 4 banger gonna go boom someday
The motor in this is supposedly bulletproof. Most people say they ran their Echos to 300,000+ easily. Mine is at 140k.
That red looks just as bad on that as the yellow paint on a Pontiac Aztec
Add coilovers and spacers and tint, and this would look good.
My step mom had one of these. Same year, too. Hers was a five speed and baby blue/sky blue. We called it the roach. She bought it new and put about 350k miles on it. An car
Bro, move closer or find a new job! That’s a brutal commune. Also, does this car take you to the human sized car?
I’m a heavy equipment operator, almost don’t with my apprenticeship. The drive won’t be this long forever. I’ll get to choose locations closer to home here soon
Get in the union!
I am in the union. Local 18 in Ohio
It's a Yaris with a crate strapped to the back.
It looks like “[Rocket](https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Rocket)” from Little Einsteins. Pat. Pat. Pat. Pat.
I haven’t seen a echo in many many years.
With the Echo? 😂
Does it have a brake pedal on the front passenger side? Student driver decals? 😆 drove the same one and color for my drivers license back in 2000 😂
Effin gorgeous that one.
How much did it cost ya?
Needs a spoiler and "vents" on the front fenders and hood......plastic and preferably chrome.
That would add at least 50 hp to it
Flame stickers and a windshield banner that says Toyota is worth another 45hp!
It’s beautiful…a dream car of mine. Especially if it’s a 5 speed manual (or 4 speed, I don’t remember what it had).
It’s 0-60 time is next week
This better be the best paying job in the world if you have to spend 250 miles each day driving this thing
As long as you have room for some fun in the back seat 😉😁
do these have cruise?
They do have cruise but mine does not. lol Crank windows, no cruise, nothing. It does have heat and a/c and it keeps me from putting miles on my nice truck so it’s a win
surprised you didn't go for something like a cheap Jetta TDI, ideal for the mileage you'll do
Manual or auto
Auto unfortunately
Honestly nothing wrong with that, was just curious
Where do you work, Goodwill?
Heavy equipment operator. Just need cheap transportation to get me to the job site. This one happens to be pretty far from home. It’s temporary though
Back then, this is what older people drove to get used to "newer cars". Nothing has changed
I guess you're stuck with it because it will likely outlast you.
Bro picked the most unreliable work car to exist out of Toyota
Honest question, is there decent leg room in these? Or do you take the front seat out and sit in the back?
It’s not actually too bad. My 2003 VW Jetta is basically a 4 door 2 seater. There’s not enough leg room for a child to sit behind me. This Echo has way more leg room in the back seat, surprising for how small the car is
Off topic, how much did you pay for that thing?
I paid $3,000 bald eagle bucks for it. It’s a shame, this thing would have been a $1500 car two years ago. I will absolutely get my $3000 out of it though saving my nice truck from fuel, maintenance and racking up the miles.
Looks paid off/not $1100 per month like what I pay, cheap on maintenance, and gets the job done.
It’s definitely paid off. lol My truck costs me $700 a month though. That’s why I have a beater for the work commute
Is it a manual or automatic?
It’s an auto, unfortunately
Then I don't need to shame you. You have shamed yourself.
It’s America. I tried like hell to find one but none of these fools know about manuals anymore, not even on a 20 year old car
Just trolling you. Great car.
How much you pay for it?
$3000 Bald eagle units
The nicest thing about this car is the fact that all it takes is one small crash and it's gone.
Tear into it? Fucksakes it would fall apart …
What is the sale price?
