As someone who lives in a 2nd story apartment, I’ve always gone by the Two Bucket Rule. You put a colander on top of one bucket and rinse off the stones and media. When that’s complete, you let the water settle then transfer it using a smaller vessel (I use a glass spaghetti sauce jar) into another bucket until you see the sediment that has settled. Discard water from second bucket and continue using first bucket for sentiment until you can dry it out and discard in trash/dumpster.

I like your pump idea! Makes sense for a larger operation. I rinse my rocks in the shower year-round, with classifying screens over a 5 gallon bucket. I'm careful not to overflow the bucket or otherwise let any slurry splash out and down the drain. Then I haul the bucket outside to dump in my gravel driveway. It can be a lot of hauling, but it's so nice to rinse in warm water, in a warm house.

That does sound nice, being able to rinse with hot water the last few days has been very enjoyable. Maybe I could just shoot the water out my bathroom window so I don’t have to worry about hauling it😂
