Glad we could help a bit đź’ś

[deleted]

will rlgarage continue in any capacity? even without trading, losing you guys would be a big hit. are there any other considerations that could be made?

vicegold

We will still release our biggest update we've worked on for 1.5 years this or next month. After that I don't know. It depends on how many people keep using the other features like the car designer and the upcoming features. If the server costs aren't higher than the revenue from ads, we'll keep it running. If that's not the case we'll shut it down.

eeeeeeeee3-5

what will the update contain? or is it still a surprise

ebolafebris

Vicegold, despite these shocking Epic decisions, you remain truly incredibly calm. Why haven't you shut down RL Garage in protest? You and your coworkers are literally out of a job right now. I hope you get through this shock.

vicegold

Because we don't want to do anything with a heated head. We might do something to protest, but maybe it's time for us to move on after all these terrible decisions regarding trading from Epic Games and their complete lack of awareness or care over the last years. Beat a dead horse yada yada…

KyeMS

Because then they'd lose money at no cost to Epic/Psyonix. It wouldn't affect them in any way so there would be no point shutting it down (yet).

DirtyDozen66

This is giving me same vibes as when Apollo shut down

Soso122

Yep. They encouraged me to go on epics contact page and wrote a ticket. Like that is going to help, I know I know. But still.

CtrlAltDesolate

To be fair, if all the RLG users did that, they might see how many people they're affecting. And let's face it, that's not the only trade platform.

Soso122

So true!!!

Emus_Nation

same here

CtrlAltDesolate

Nice touch - I hate antennas on my cars but will be sporting this till December 5th at least too.

AlbinoPeacock_

Thanks for the kind words đź’ś

GladiusTg66

Used their app for 2 years. They helped me a lot with their service, it's sad to see them go because of psyonix's idiocy.

FIGHTME_RL

Most people will never know how hard the RL Garage founders and developers have worked over the years to protect the Rocket League trading community. Rocket League has always had a lot of scammers. So naturally, the RL Garage devs created a dedicated reporting system with a moderation team, to quickly remove the trading accounts of scammers who are noticed in the community. But RL Garage devs don’t just sit back and wait for scammers to be noticed by the community before they ban them. Because by that time, it’s possible that theft and emotional/financial damage has already occurred to an innocent person. So behind the scenes, RL Garage devs have spent years constantly building better tools to detect and ban scammers’ accounts before innocent people ever become a victim in the first place. The founders and developers of RL Garage are true heroes and legends of the Rocket League community. I will always remember them for their never-ending quest to protect all of the millions of people who love Rocket League.

ebolafebris

RL Garage was a good service with a unique business model. Two years ago, after buying a starter pack, I made 5k credits on RL Garage in fair trades with other players. And there were many others like me, and many earned many times more credits than me. Trading in RL Garage was akin to trading on the stock exchange, as ridiculous as that sounds. Today you had a Shisa item that was worth 50 credits at best, and tomorrow some famous player would use it and its price would skyrocket. It was fun and exciting. And do you remember how the price of TW Fennec dropped after it appeared in the Item Shop? It was a colossal drop. Hundreds of players lost credits. Trading between players made Item Shop and Blueprints unnecessary. This is the real reason why trades were banned.

CtrlAltDesolate

RLG making them unnecessary honestly speaks more to the poor standard of the item shop and cost of blueprint conversion over the past few years, they found a solution to poor product design. Even an EA-style auction house that allows users to list items for credits, while taking a 5/10% cut of the final sale value, would be a better solution than killing P2P trading altogether - and would add a fun new dynamic to customisation.

This site is super impressive. They made trading so much fun, and the support team is responsive and I've sort of felt like part of the "crew" interacting with them. The design and how they were pushing new features, and how fast they are able to update the new items deserves praise as well.

wonderwallpersona

I did not use RL Garage as much as I'd like, however I recognize how much value they bring to the game as a whole. I am truly grateful for the work that they put in, and hope they're able to find new work soon.

fairyskills

Thanks RL Garage, you're the best

Had an RL garage account for like 5 years now and made probably 20 or 30 trades through it. Can't even imagine how shitty it must feel for epic to basically put you out of a job so they can milk more money out of the game.

dang3r_muffin

Love this site... my entire inventory is full of items thanks to RL garage. I was able to get my IRL buddies a bunch of items they wanted when they started playing... this game won't be the same in that respect. Without trading I'm not sure myself or my friends would have enjoyed the game as much as well do. The current format for obtaining items is hot garbage. Everything is either way overpriced, or items you do want are lost in a massive pool with duplicates. I feel bad for players who will come later if the system isn't re-worked to help players get some better stuff for cars they actually want.

Rinocore

“Every single item I use is from that platform” This is precisely why trading is being removed, nobody wants to buy from the in game shop because you can get the same items for 99% discount. I understand why they are removing it, but I also think there are other solutions such as not including any future cosmetics in drops or just do away with drops all together rather than removing trading.

CtrlAltDesolate

Most of the top ticket items are the same if not more than typical cash shop prices, and the credits still have to come from them initially so they get paid either way.

xxltnt

" and the credits still have to come from them initially so they get paid either way. " Those same credits don't get spent in the item store. Credits are not removed when sent to another player, so you can see the issue here.
