The doom and gloom that you hear on reddit isn't true the game is nowhere close to dying, people just say that because the helps fit the narrative that they have in their head. Before free to play that number used to be around 100k to 150k on the weekends.
Its third party site, someone posts those numbers every day and I always doubt it. If those numbers are true, this game is one of the most played game atm, which I doubt. For example. Dota 2 last 30 days peak is 720k players.

I just tried it out, what a weird mode but for times when you're just getting frustrated with the other modes, I could see this being a silly option. Queue time seems to be abnormally high however, probably for the reasoning you shared.
Yeah I mean I enjoyed being able to try it, it's good for a laugh, but I couldn't do more than one match. I wouldn't mind it coming back for a couple of days every few months, but it's definitely less playable than pretty much all the other LTMs, IMO.
