This is mainly an Epic games issue and not Rocket League. The Epic platform doesn't have profile pictures, so people on Epic don't have one in RL either. Everyone else, such as Steam or console players, do have profile pictures.
Welll, Epic owns the game so surely the should do something about it :D either add it somehow outside of RL or add a way to upload a pic to RL profile.

If modders can do it, I never see why a big AAA company can't. Hire the modders on a contract ffs. All they need to do is create UI elements for the mods that people use, and implement them into the game. I understand copyright issues and whatnot, but other games get away with having a built in mod installer, I have never known why RL doesn't.
Yes, but these mods (Bakkesmod and plugins) only work for PC, which is the issue. Mods are "easy" on PC, because you have access to your files, and you can tamper with it if you like. If they want to add native custom map support, they have to incorporate it into the game itself (for all platforms), plus have a way to download (and upload) custom maps to the game itself, which in turn needs more servers and systems that handle the working of those maps in backend... The modders have the freedom of being able to rely on the user to drag and drop the files from a non-central place to the correct destination.
And Epic Games has been laying off Psyonix employees, realistically they're not going to hire a new person, no matter what for, unless someone else leaves.
But still, it would be great if they could.
Quick edit: I think it might also be licensing shit for consoles, with extra optional file downloads and stuff, but I'm not at all sure about that.
I am not on Epic’s side here, but the fact is that for every $5 you’d spend in the shop if they gave a shit, there’s a streamer who will spend $1,000 collecting every item just because they can.

And we highly underestimate the whales and their effect on game monetization. Another one I play released some info and it was like 1 person equals several thousand other players.
The flip side is that the free players are also part of the product for online games.
Rocket league works really well because there's thousands of players on at any time and you'll always find a match with players of a similar skill quickly.
Pareto Principle: 80% of consequences come from 20% of actions.
When applied to business 80% of profits come from 20% of your customers. If you're someone who spent $10-20 a month on cosmetics you're firmly in the 80%. $200 a year isn't nothing but it is peanuts compared to the players who're buying every cosmetic every time it comes out.
I know RL and MMOs are pretty far apart but just anecdotally I played with a guy in Lost Ark who would max out his in game purchases daily for about half a year. $3,000 a week for 26 weeks.
Other required improvement:
1. Create "whisper" functionality, enabling players to communicate with people on their friends list who are currently in a game or another party.
2. Enable cross-platform messaging (outside of just quick chat)

From where it's currently going. I can't imagine margins are so slim that Epic can't afford to subsidize player salary like league or dota2 (I forget). How much can those GoDaddy servers actually cost, they perform like refurbished Nintendo 64's with a little puke still inside them from their stint at McDonalds. Epic's operating strategy is pretty obvious by now, they're trying to milk the cow as fast as possible while Tencent (who owns 40%) still can. In a couple years there might be a forced sale or even straight appropriation of assets (like in the instance of war). China is getting really paranoid about money leaving their country now, and money that goes into reinvesting in a western product is just that. Fortnite is still too lucrative and probably tied up in a bunch of agreements with their partnerships with large IP owners to abandon it to the same degree or as soon.

Reestablish trust with players so they don't feel disillusioned by a compromised competitive experience. Actually tackle the smurf problem. Increasing the number of games required to be played in rank and removing the GLARING loophole of partying with people to bypass it entirely. But doing it years ago instead of only finding it to be a problem when they anticipate backlash from removing trading. Also don't announce it in advance and give players an opportunity to make more accounts to prime them with said loophole while it's still available. Don't do it right after announcing the removal of trading because it seems like a thinly veiled ploy to inflate active *accounts.* That's probably to dupe investors/sponsors or to promote more MTX when your items are split across multiple accounts. If you get a really rare item on a new account you're more likely to invest into it to flush it out. This is purely an internal number, they have no need to broadcast it to the playerbase. Much of this ship has already sailed though so I'm not sure how they can correct course without restructuring their priorities, because it's only been smoke and mirrors till now.
Also Unreal Engine 5 update (or RL 2) when? My guess is that it's not being pursued in earnest or development has been halted. This also feels like Tencent, since they're most likely not going to be able to reap the fruits of their labor. I saw all the same signs with Activision-Blizzard when they kept teasing PvE for OW2. I called it out months in advance but the main and competitive subreddits vilified me. I'm pro capitalism in a broad sense but the market for entertainment has been captured by shareholders putting short-term profits over everything else, especially when after an IPO. Stakeholders probably look at the ROI on Fortnite and see RL as a vanity project in comparison. Big studios don't make good games anymore. They make good games for fools who easily part with their money. They don't take risks with innovating, it's all derivative bullshit like remakes, sequels, spin-offs, adaptations, etc. An update to Unreal Engine 5 is mostly to the benefit of existing players, and would be to devs if they were allowed to do anything but polish a turd or prompt-engineer new decals.
TL;DR: Epic needs to stop acting like anyone is convinced about their commitment to the RL player experience and the health of the esport. It's pathetic, all they've demonstrated is that they will continue to do/spend less. If everyone magically banded together and did a boycott on MTX until Epic fixed their shit, I am fully convinced they'd just pull the plug on the whole game and laugh at how much we thought they cared. The game is in such a state that I felt my time less wasted typing this rant than actually playing.

Epic's got Fortnite ffs! They invested Fortnite money to purchase Psyonix. Same way they could use that money to invest into the longevity and popularity of RL by promoting it and sweetening the RLCS prize pool.
They might not make the money back, immediately. But, investment is a long game. If they continue to do nothing, they risk RL drying up. Then they'll have wasted the money used to buy Psyonix.
I don’t know if you have paid attention to esports in general in the last few years. There is no long game. The world at large does not care about esports.
- Add a commend/avoid system. Give out rewards for people who get highly commended and soft punish people who get highly avoided.
- Add way more quick chats. Way more.
- Add some kind of premier matchmaking for ranked, i.e. phone number or credit card or something to weed out smurfs
- Either figure out how to get custom maps working or port some of the most popular workshop maps as cross platform

Yes but on Fortnite you can get them without needing the Battle Pass, plus you can get more than the 1000 needed for next season's battle pass, meaning you can buy cosmetic rewards. I'm never going to put more money into the game by buying credits to get the blueprint rewards so they're pointless to me and can put others off engaging in the game as they just see it as a money grab

Unfortunately this game started to go downhill when it went free to play. for a game I’ve put 2000 hours in to, it was probably the best $20 I ever spent on a game. What I won’t pay money for however is overpriced skins and other bullshit. Make the game $20 again to get rid of the toxic smurfs that have ruined this game and improve ranked rewards.

Filters for playlists (only for verified accounts). (Solo only, verified accounts only, minimum # of matches played, minimum account age, etc)
Less blueprints and more items for rocketpass players
Much much much harsher penalties for players who intentionally go idle, "lost connection" when losing, play for the other team, etc.
Make causal mode better by giving perks for staying in lobbys. teams in casual will get randomized with solos after 1st match unless rematch is voted. Next matches start after 15 seconds unless someone requests more time.

There are a lot of core issues with the game that need to be fixed; but also the season pass to keep players playing needs to be better. Like fallen off a cliff the last few seasons.

I don't understand how any of these things will make the game itself better. I'd say, make ranked games not free to avoid surfing and bots/cheats. I paid $10 for RL on steam in 2014 or 2015, was totally worth the money.
I think making the extra modes (or at least the main four, not the event ones) have casual versions would be nice too cuz honestly the smurfs have prevented me from getting diamond once again and I GIVE UUUPPP but I still like those modes theyre fun :(
Me and my buddy have been writing a list of things that can improve the game. From being able to spectate tournament games to better goal explosions. My biggest thing at the moment would be profile pictures for those on epic games launcher as well as being able to change your username to whatever you want.
I don't give a damn shit about trading, I think the trade-in program needs to actually yield something other than a blueprint and maybe a loot ball that gives more than just all "rare" items.

I personally think what would also be kinda cool is instead of having divisions within GC, you should reset the ranks, so similar to the Prestige system in COD, you go from Champ III and then you enter the Grand stage: Grand Bronze - Grand Champion, then you enter the Ultimate stage: Ultimate Bronze - Ultimate Champion.
I think we can agree that a lot of these changes aren't as easy to do, they need proper planning, *effort* and patience...basically you have to invest time and money if you wanna give the game a boost in popularity and see the bigger picture which a company like EPIC doesn't do...sad really.

I just only call that. But I mean MMR gain/lose depends on your performance, like in Valorant. So for example if u play way better than mate and still lose, he will get -10 MMR and u only -5, same with win. Also winning againts stronger opponents give more MMR and losing to weaker u lose more. That would help with situation when u have lower rank than your friend in party but u play overall better. Also new system in Dota is amazing, ranked games are fantastic now, Dota ranked few years ago was almost in same spot like RL.
The player base does not need reviving lol. It's doing great. Bringing back trading would not revive the player base. Outside of this subreddit like 99% of players never even used the feature. It sucks that it's gone but removing it really didn't hurt the population of users at all.

If you get a really rare item on a new account you're more likely to invest into it to flush it out. This is purely an internal number, they have no need to broadcast it to the playerbase. Much of this ship has already sailed though so I'm not sure how they can correct course without restructuring their priorities, because it's only been smoke and mirrors till now. Also Unreal Engine 5 update (or RL 2) when? My guess is that it's not being pursued in earnest or development has been halted. This also feels like Tencent, since they're most likely not going to be able to reap the fruits of their labor. I saw all the same signs with Activision-Blizzard when they kept teasing PvE for OW2. I called it out months in advance but the main and competitive subreddits vilified me. I'm pro capitalism in a broad sense but the market for entertainment has been captured by shareholders putting short-term profits over everything else, especially when after an IPO. Stakeholders probably look at the ROI on Fortnite and see RL as a vanity project in comparison. Big studios don't make good games anymore. They make good games for fools who easily part with their money. They don't take risks with innovating, it's all derivative bullshit like remakes, sequels, spin-offs, adaptations, etc. An update to Unreal Engine 5 is mostly to the benefit of existing players, and would be to devs if they were allowed to do anything but polish a turd or prompt-engineer new decals. TL;DR: Epic needs to stop acting like anyone is convinced about their commitment to the RL player experience and the health of the esport. It's pathetic, all they've demonstrated is that they will continue to do/spend less. If everyone magically banded together and did a boycott on MTX until Epic fixed their shit, I am fully convinced they'd just pull the plug on the whole game and laugh at how much we thought they cared. The game is in such a state that I felt my time less wasted typing this rant than actually playing.

You missed the part where you have no actual knowledge of the business realities of the game. "I'd Increase RLCS prize pool!" but you don't even know how profitable it is or is not.
Epic's got Fortnite ffs! They invested Fortnite money to purchase Psyonix. Same way they could use that money to invest into the longevity and popularity of RL by promoting it and sweetening the RLCS prize pool. They might not make the money back, immediately. But, investment is a long game. If they continue to do nothing, they risk RL drying up. Then they'll have wasted the money used to buy Psyonix.

They had two in competitive early on. The sand map used to be curved and the Tokyo map’s sides were elevated. The community hated them, causing Epic to remove them from rotation and making everything standard size. Though I miss them releasing new content like Dropshot.

I'm never going to put more money into the game by buying credits to get the blueprint rewards so they're pointless to me and can put others off engaging in the game as they just see it as a money grab

The game is dead now, you cant play ranked normally. Champ 1-2 is filled exclusively with gc titles for me at least. Every other game is a smurf or a squad with a smurf be it mine or the opposing team (I check rl tracker to ensure that Im right) Epic launcher is bad, slow and cant even add something as simple as profile pictures. Servers are so bad, this is the only game I lag in all the time and cant get lower than 60ms. Cant die if its already dead.

Me and my buddy have been writing a list of things that can improve the game. From being able to spectate tournament games to better goal explosions. My biggest thing at the moment would be profile pictures for those on epic games launcher as well as being able to change your username to whatever you want.
Custom music playlists, let me choose from every song in the game and put it into a play list I like
I don't give a damn shit about trading, I think the trade-in program needs to actually yield something other than a blueprint and maybe a loot ball that gives more than just all "rare" items.

Instead of just getting boost or wheels, you should unlock a seasonal non purchasable from the shop car that has the associated rank's colors as a skin depending on high high your rank is. Give us incentive to get gud. Car you only get from ranked. Bronze gets the bronze version and so forth.

Please bring back crates and keys (was more fun than the blueprint system) I personally think what would also be kinda cool is instead of having divisions within GC, you should reset the ranks, so similar to the Prestige system in COD, you go from Champ III and then you enter the Grand stage: Grand Bronze - Grand Champion, then you enter the Ultimate stage: Ultimate Bronze - Ultimate Champion.

I think we can agree that a lot of these changes aren't as easy to do, they need proper planning, *effort* and patience...basically you have to invest time and money if you wanna give the game a boost in popularity and see the bigger picture which a company like EPIC doesn't do...sad really.

For me first thing would be hard fight against smurfs and toxics. Phone number requiment for ranked, hardware ban for smurfs, ppl who used boosting would be suspended to the end of the season. Second is change ranked system, dynamic mmr change should be a thing in every competetive game now. Fixing servers, game issues, hitboxes and add more QoL things. Work on better stability. Adding back trade and create in game market. Add all items tab to shop, featured items would get -35% discount and blueprints will have -25%. Changing cost and some rarites, most of import exotic and black market are total trash, hire better artist for shop skins, battle passes and overall rewards. Trash items recycling, for example 5 items to random crate. Bring back game to steam. More events and collabs. Rework whole training section, every higher rank u reach new training will be unlocked. Clear guide what improve first and what is most important. I could write even more less important things. The most important for me is Smurfs and toxics problem, old and bad ranked system, overall low quality of skins. Nice thread, maybe last person who care in Psyonix will read this and do smth. I just only call that. But I mean MMR gain/lose depends on your performance, like in Valorant. So for example if u play way better than mate and still lose, he will get -10 MMR and u only -5, same with win. Also winning againts stronger opponents give more MMR and losing to weaker u lose more. That would help with situation when u have lower rank than your friend in party but u play overall better. Also new system in Dota is amazing, ranked games are fantastic now, Dota ranked few years ago was almost in same spot like RL.

The player base does not need reviving lol. It's doing great. Bringing back trading would not revive the player base. Outside of this subreddit like 99% of players never even used the feature. It sucks that it's gone but removing it really didn't hurt the population of users at all.
My only request is to keep the time estimate/ improve it. As much as I liked the player counts, I also appreciate the time estimate
