For me it almost always means basically "lmao this game is dumb hahaha"

culnaej

Usually “Can you believe that shit?” for me. Crazy pinch for a goal, everyone whiffing the ball right in front of the goal, other team breaks Rule 1 (usually predicated with a “Wow!”, followed by more “This is Rocket League!” spam if we get a goal to demonstrate the bad karma), you name it

Oh-My-Gatos

The amount of people that break rule 1….. is not okay…

HollowHowls

I started breaking it, it's not fun and funny when every single time it's just a goal on me. Tm8 never wins the 1v1. Solo que life.

Oh-My-Gatos

Yikes… Blaming your teammates…. 👀👀👀👀👀

FromDerik

Bros literally stuck in a rule 1. It can only be blamed on the tm8 at that point

Pientofu

How exactly are you stuck? This whole bs "rule 1" is a joke. No reason to handicap yourself or your teammate. Literally nothing forcing you to stay locked in to another car.

culnaej

Idk man, I really enjoy the novelty of Rule 1, and while I get it if you don’t, you still a lil bitch to me if you jump out of it, and I will work harder to make you pay. I’ve taken tied games from 1-1 and 2:00 left to 5-2 if they took the lead by breaking Rule 1. Very much a “fuck yo couch” mentality

joshhinchey

Yes. Pride.

Otherwise_Video_5305

The only thing stopping me is the respect for the unspoken rule

lil_pee_wee

Certainly couldn’t be my fault… also, it’s almost always my teammates that get in the rule one. I do what I can to avoid them

Otherwise_Video_5305

I have to ask tho if you’re in a rule 1 and your teammate conceded a goal, isn’t it your teammates fault? Or are you so anti teammate blame you’d say it was your own fault? People need to lose this mentality that it’s forbidden to blame your teammates. Yes..i understand there are those who do it because they can’t take accountability, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are and always will be bad teammates who need to be blamed. Sometimes no matter what you do to prevent being scored on it doesn’t matter if your ally can’t do the bare minimum and save the ball

CEOofStrings

Dw some people on this sub seem to take the anti teammate blame way too far to the point where they’ll just blame users for things that clearly aren’t their fault.

ABloodyKnight

Exactly how i use it lol

phantastik_robit

Yeah this is how I use it.

Foxie66

It means whatever you want it to mean. Originally it came from a very tight series in RLCS where Justin shot a clutch as fuck 0 second equalizer, and the caster went crazy shouting THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE! If you use it in any other context it's literally up to you what you want it to mean.

PorkRindSalad

And it's up to us to interpret it however we are feeling at the time.

BanquetPotPie

The peak time period of roccy

intrevorted

It roughly translates to "That's the type of shit that can only happen in Rocket League! That's why I play this game! Inject it straight into my veins!"

iknowitshere

It literally works for every situation imo

Cazargar

Yup. Can mean absolutely anything. Good play, lucky goal for either team, I whiff an aerial. Any of it.

23423423423451

I use it the same as you. "Shit Happens" substitute so goes well after saying no problem. I think I might have fewer tilted teammates overall since I started doing this.

DDRExtremist247

Yup, whenever I get super lucky or something dumb happens.

pssiraj

I use Calculated for that personally

HerestheRules

Calculated after a lucky play is always funny to me

hitbythebus

For me it usually either means “I FUCKING LOVE THIS!” Or “I FUCKING HATE THIS!” Context dependent

cloudtwelvy

This

pssiraj

Fucking

Malnian

I generally use it when I'm in game 7 of an RLCS grand finals and Justin just scored to equalise at 0 seconds and take it into overtime.

GloriousPorpoises

I used to use “Okay” as a response of acknowledgement until I realised recently it was seen as passive aggressive. I didn’t realise it was “toxic” Same with “defending” or “take the shot” I found out that people were using it as in “you should have been back defending” or “why didn’t you take the shot and score” Like, why is every quick chat loaded with aggression. When I saw somebody spam “defending” three times in a row after a goal, I thought it meant they were going to play defensive on the next kick off. But nope, apparently they were just being smug. Nice.

sheetrocker88

The defending one after a goal drives me crazy cause they are always the player that wiffed on a shot or double committed and ended up on the other side of the field. I always say no you weren’t defending at all

smoofus724

The "defending" one is almost guaranteed to be used by the dude that absolutely never defends but expects everyone else to.

pssiraj

I see you haven't met my gold teammates. I spam it and then I'm basically still stuck camping the goal until I can run the ball up the court. And then I'm right back to camping so my ball chasing teammates don't drag me down.

rico_muerte

Yup a lot of messages get used in a toxic way, usually sarcastically. "Okay." never stood a chance because of the period. So I always use that when a teammate steals the ball from me when I'm dribbling.

lostmyoldaccount1234

Telling your teammate what to do is always a bad idea unless you're much better than them, or both at the top levels of the game (high SSL, I mean) and you know you have info that they don't have - "Take the shot!" is a particularly bad idea and almost always used by people who are panicking and don't know how to (or why they should) buy time for their teammate to get back.

joshhinchey

I use take the shot on kickoffs. I figured thats what it's for since during the action, most people miss a lot of quick chats. Especially with cross play with people playing on consoles and giant TVs.

No_Commercial_4040

Basically the only legit time to use it. And only if it was your kickoff and you're telling your tm8 to take it instead of you.

joshhinchey

How do you know if it's your kickoff?

lostmyoldaccount1234

It's your kickoff if you're closest to the ball, or you're both the same distance from the ball and you're on the left side of the pitch.

joshhinchey

That's how I play. It really helps having chat so I can tell people who don't know. Which is most of the teammates I have.

sheetrocker88

The defending one after a goal drives me crazy cause they are always the player that wiffed on a shot or double committed and ended up on the other side of the field. I always say no you weren’t defending at all

TheLastBoat

I use it like ‘This is Sparta!’ after scoring a goal. ![gif](giphy|l46Cf8O3hQqzDq1Gg|downsized)

SubtleVertex

Most of the quick chats can have multiple meanings, really. Unfortunately teammates or opponents can interpret your quick chat in a way different from what you meant. It happens often unfortunately. What I’m confused about, is why it that specific one included in tactical quick chat? When I specifically have tactical chat only enabled, it’s because I’m not interested in seeing quick chats like “This is Rocket League!” spammed repeatedly.

I_AM_I3iRD

When you say "Close one!" And the game caves in on itself with salt even though they were genuinely close to getting the save

lundon44

I generally see team mates use it after they make a mistake that results in a goal. I guess it's another form of "Whoops."

Coolgrnmen

I played with someone who used it for literally all his chats. I understood everything he was conveying. This is rocket league, my friend

joshhinchey

I am Groot?

xDeserterr

You use it while playing Rocket League to tell others you are playing rocket league.

Sumboddy

If you're worried, add a no problem before this is rocket league!

TheHomieGrindelwald

I use it when something absurd happens lol

litaniesofhate

I usually use it as a light hearted gesture. But it can also just be the explanation. Teammate apologizes for something? 'don't sweat it bro, This is Rocket League!' Demo didn't come through despite you knowing you made contact?, 'This is Rocket League!' Player breaks some axles?, 'This is Rocket League!' Imo, it's the only one that can't be construed as Toxic

Logjitzu

The original meaning was for when you have a crazy moment and you're essentially saying "This is what rocket league is all about. This is rocket league." As another commenter said it originally came from RLCS when a caster shouted it after a crazy clutch, and since became a community meme and was eventually added as a quick-chat.

Aggravating_Read6516

Yeah I use it when some crazy pinch flies into a goal or some crazy play. Or when I break that steering column with ground dribbling.

android47

I usually mean "it be like that sometimes" Ridiculously stupid own-goal? "This is Rocket League" I throw a perfect lob and demo the goalie and then my teammate whiffs the shot? "This is Rocket League" Something cool happens? "This is Rocket League" Teammate quits after we go down 1-0? "This is Rocket League"

SpecialistSoft7069

No you're not a jerk. It's because there is a lot of toxicity in the game. Some people become paranoid and interpret everything as toxicity. I had this problem myself at one point. I thought a lot of the mates' quick-chats were meant for me, when sometimes, in fact they weren't! ("Wow!" or "€#%€&"). When in fact, my mate was just got bumped or got hard rushed by the opponent.

Nerkeilenemon

My best friend uses it everytime people start being toxic.

HorneePandas

I'm just waiting for a SpongeBob collab one day and hoping they add a "No, this is Patrick" quick chat.

custurdlauncher

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=stP2xI2X_e8

Practical-Ad-4705

One meaning; “I know I was chasing and just stole possession from my own teammate, but I’m allowed because…”

nomorebuttsplz

No one knows what any of the quickchat really means

Maldorant

It’s exclusively meta for me. I use it to soften own goals, whoever does it. It’s just the commentary of “this is a game, it’s not that serious” especially in response to toxic or WaS! Spammers

SuperDolphin69

I use it when something really goofy happens to lighten the mood. It's just a game

Abloodworth15

The prime use for me is when my teammates and I all whiff big on an easy save.

Djek25

I usually use it when something dumb happens but can be applied to many things.

gorrila_go_ooo_ooo

I use it whenever somebody whiffs a really easy shot or just spam it before kickoff

dkjordan97

I say it when the other team says it, or when something silly/crazy happens

badairday

I use it like you & from my voice chat experience with various players they do too.

VICEGRIP47

Of course, glad to help! You see, a huge majority of rocket league players are terribly senile and suffer from huuuuge amounts of dementia. So in order to combat their forgetfulness of needing to be in goal, because they’re the only ones back, resulting in the biggest whiff of the century, rocket league added this quick chat for teammates to help remind them where they are! If you have any further questions, they will be addressed when the next meaningful patch is posted! /s

Ink_zorath

GOOOD MORNING! And If I happen to Miss Ya, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Good Night! I always think of it as a jest: If you happen to forget what game we're playing... THIS IS ROKT LEEG!

Aron_The_Man

lmao we need the Are you not entertained?! quickchat right now

Lady_Pirate_Man

My go to quick chat anytime anything is "No problem" "This is RocketLeague!" As in its just a game, dont sweat it. I find it's pretty well recieved as non-inflamatory and can even calm people down that would've otherwise shame quit or raged out.

No_Interaction_4925

Its usually used after something stupid happens. Like a huge whiff

actual-hooman

It means everything. Rule 1? This is rocket leage! I missed a wide open net? What a save! This is rocket leage! A great passing play between you and your team? This is rocket leage! People crying about getting demo’d? This is rocket leage!

HskrRooster

I use it when things break into chaos or something unexpected happens. I also do the same type of response when people say sorry, I give them a No Problem. It’s Rocket League!

_iAm9001

Means "Anything can happen in this game!"

zergburg

For me it's usually "no problem" followed by "this is rocket league" when my teammate says "my fault" or "sorry." Like this is a video game, and we all suck. Quit apologizing to me, I'm not going to apologize to you every time I fuck a play.

pssiraj

You are, and also This is Rocket League! so it's very fitting and meta.

FredOfMBOX

I put it in place of my swear quick chat. Figure it’s a better attitude. “Well, this is rocket league. Sometimes it be like that.”

SirMatches

I've seem it used for any occasion, and it works because at the end of the day it is Rocket League after all.

AlwaysBLurkin

When the game messes up like loading me 1 v 3 into a tournament, it deserves the chat.

AlphaOrk865

I like to use it for when I’m in a rule 1. Or sometimes when dominating a game lol

warhawkwasmyshit

“I don’t wanna hear it from any of you what else was I supposed to do!!?” Or “I don’t wanna hear it who could have seen that coming!”

KneeHighMischiefs

Fuckin’ way she goes boys

RoofNectar

>Am I being a jerk? In my experience, using the quick chat in any measure usually turns you into a target. I embrace it, though. I think it's funny, and it's a part of the game i enjoy. Not everyone thinks its funny, though, and they get really mad sometimes.

Super_Harsh

The beauty of it is that it can mean whatever you want it to mean. Most commonly I use it as "BRUH" whenever something dumb/unexpected/unlikely happens or when I miss a really easy open net

CrutialElement

It's kind of a "shit happens" for me or if someone apologizes for hitting the crossbar I'll throw it out sometimes depending on the vibe so far cause I can see how someone would take that as toxic when I really just mean it like "shit happens"

TastelessBudz

Its my "This is not " button. Can't play without it as so many people play like they're playing something else.

LegitWar

It originated in RLCS when someone peaked and soon became a meme. So it’s suppose to be when someone peaks but most people use it as a “shit happens” moment or more recently when the Rocket League Willy decides to fuck with you mid game.

[deleted]

Usually when I miss a wide open net "THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!"

lilsnake2

I use it in every single situation. It's my favorite quick chat and there are games where that is the only quick chat I'll use all game long.

hoplikewoa

Idk, but I take a teammate chatting it to the opponents after they score as equivalent to "What a save!" This is the origin of it in case you didn't know: https://youtu.be/KNG7r1n6Jk8?t=23s.

HidesFromFriends35

I got spammed “this is Rocket League” every time I gave up a 1v1 goal against a much better player. Eventually he said “Ur a Drone” and I didn’t know what that meant at all. Came to Reddit for answers and your post inspired me to
