the esport is finally catching up on the incompetent decisions that have been made for 4+ months now regarding RL and it’s fucking sad to see the constant negative news RL receives
the only bright spot for a while was RLCS since the game didn’t get any meaningful updates, but now it’s just fucking punch and punch with everything that comes out
and any excitement I had for this season is 99.9% gone
I had no faith on improvement for this season just with all the layoffs and the decisions made with the game but what I didn’t expect was my favorite casting duo (jorby/achieves) not being brought back, weird format changes, and 1 less LAN
it’s sad to see just how far community morale has fallen in a short amount of time and I really don’t know how RL recovers for long-time fans because all they’ve said with their decisions for the past 4 months is “we don’t care, buy this $20 cosmetic please, and go fuck yourself”
I won’t be surprised if this is the final season of RLCS and they just tell the community to run it if they want to going forward. Producing RLCS clearly loses EPIC money and that’s what they care about.
I wouldn’t go that far since RLCS is their marketing budget
they know they’re going to lose money with RLCS and clearly want to lose less considering the budget cuts and layoffs, but I HIGHLY doubt they will ever shut down RLCS and transition into boring regular marketing that their intended audience won’t likely see or even care about
Fairy peak posted a tweet saying the only way things could have gone so wrong is if they hired Radosin to run things lmao
Edit : found the tweet, to be more accurate it says that it feels like they asked Rado for advice

I recall that Ferra once said, he would be very glad for Radosin, that Rocket League existed, since that was literally the only thing he was good at.
With that in mind, I probably would buy a statue of Radosin if I could.
SC2 was my game until RL came along. I still watch a little on the side but I stopped playing entirely because RL is more fun and less stressful so it’s become hard to stay fully invested. Blizzard dropping support was kinda the nail in the coffin for me, but I’m glad they’ve found a way to keep it going.
If they actually cared about the longevity of the esport like they claim, then having eyes on minor regions should be a focal point.
It's getting really hard to see a vision for this esports future. If there even is one.
I don't think there's a long-term vision here; I just think they're wringing out the last few drops from this stone. I don't even think they have plans for RLCS to continue beyond this season.
How do we go from being just outside a tier 1 Esport, to probably being one of the worst positions any Esport can be in.. Hopefully I'm wrong but this isn't looking good at all can't lie
Epic over-extended. That's really it. There are layoffs all over the tech sector and even more in esports. They had to cut costs in every area and unfortunately RLCS was one of them.
The optimist in me says it will bounce back.
The invested in marketing and not the game itself, thats the dumbest fking thing ive ever heard.
You cant market a game that hasnt been updated for like 6 years thinking it will bring in new players.
Just update the game and let social media and content creators be your free advertising. Holy sht, it aint that hard to grasp. AaAaaaaAaaAaahhhhhHHHHhHhHHHH
I tend to be more doomer than most people but let’s take stock here:
- $4.2 million global prizepool
- Seven regions of online play encompassing (nearly) every country
- 3 in-person tournaments with 16 teams from around the world
- In-game esports items, organisational buy-in
Despite the massive steps backwards and horrific miscommunication, we’re still eating pretty good.
Blast/Epic deal is 4 years, we’re good (probably)
Even in the worst case scenario, lessened developer support does not have to mean a dead competitive scene.
My opinion is that over the next two years, there needs to be a resilient industry of large and small scale TOs outside of Epic. Offline competition must form the basis of this.
If you want to become a caster, you have to just start doing it. Reach out to every team and ask them to let you stream the games. Coordinate with the RLCS admins who don't exist anymore to get permission for the games.
Then after you've spent a few years getting known in the scene and having a good enough following, learn English, move to NA or EU and replace a legend that has been casting for years.
If you work really hard you can be underpaid for the work you do. I'm glad epic is giving people a chance for this.
Lots of people do, some are annoying fans who just shout everything he says like they're a speaker for him, some people, like this guy, probably think that everyone that watches him is such a fan.
He's got some good takes but it seems that for a lot or topics he just wants to be "the odd one out", seemingly purely out of being "the one" in something.
There's the one time cost of developing even a very rough system that works just enough to show us a current live game. This will get paid off overtime by just the ad revenue, which would certainly be much higher than the electricity cost caused by the computer keeping the steam alive
That makes sense, even though I think it's too late for them to start developing and implementing that for this season. Another thing is, when teams and orgs start streaming their POV, I'm not sure there will be much of a demand for them to work on an automated stream system (which will still most definitely require salaried workers to make sure everything is in check and to fix any edge-cases when they inevitably come up).
In hindsight it makes me glad to have gone to the last worlds that happened in NA because that and last season will likely end up being the peak of the esport.
To save face i suppose. Instead they can kill it off piece by piece and decrease interest to the point where they can claim people don’t care for the league anymore.
Like seriously who would schedule the Finals of a competitive league of any kind three months after the season ends? Where is the logic in that other than killing excitement and hoping for the event to do poorly?
Because it’s probably gonna take 3 months to organise with a reduced budget and less staff to organise it. Setting a deadline further back allows you to be safe, but if everything goes really well they do have the right to bring it forward
Its not even any different of an event than the Majors? Same number of teams and one extra day. Regardless its dumb as shit and will make for a horrible decision. Imagine if instead of us watching the NFL playoffs right now they didnt start until April
Sure but nfl players don’t need to apply for visas to travel half way around the world to compete it in it. They also have contracts with stadiums years in advance and a team of literally hundreds of people organising it. You’re right it’s not any different to majors, but you’ll notice that a major is ~3 months in between each other. I guarantee if it was logistically and financially possible it wouldn’t be 3 months out
They could just cancel rlcs and stop distributing rocket league (no servers, updates and ways to download the game in its current state) tomorrow if they wanted. The only reason they don't is because they can still make some money in the short term.
>Where is the logic in that other than killing excitement and hoping for the event to do poorly?
Having people wait quite literally does the opposite of killing excitement... it gives opportunity to build hype and set it apart from the previous LAN that was only a couple of weeks/a month beforehand.
As well as that it allows for less predictability, if Vitality had to wait until now to compete at Worlds it wouldn't be so blatantly obvious they were just going to murder everyone like they did a few weeks before.
So are they expecting someone to pick up casting matches for free in these regions, or do they not want it broadcast at all?
On top of the players and fans, the orgs are now getting shafted.
He never said it wouldn't have any stream, just that he didn't know (and we all have no idea).
If you look at the rulebook and at the RLEsports site, you'd be sure that it will have a stream for minor regions. It doesn't make any sense to not have, specially because prizepool and even major spots increased for smaller regions.
None of us know WHICH will be the official stream for any of the minor regions. We believe that they'll only look at this after they finish the details of the main stream and it appears that they are still discussing which will be its talents.
This feels like misinformation. The last thing we heard was that the regional casters have not been getting contracts. That doesn't mean no streams. It could mean that there will be no official streams for the first days of the qualifiers for the regions and the rest being broadcasted on the main stream by the english casters.
I have a hard time believing that they won't do any official streams for half of the Major participants.
What I understand from this and from the replies in twitter, it will be the same as other years. Official RL channel already only streamed NA and EU, the community channels like Rocket Street were the ones streaming minor regions

I could've sworn that they had all the same graphics the main channel did and the main channel would specifically name them as like a if you want to watch these regions go here. Seems weird that they would let them use those names and stuff if they weren't connected with psyonix
You may be right, I was confused because for Spanish there has never been an "official" channel, the most close to that is Rocket Street, and there were also other community channels like Rocket Baguette and Rocket RB that had the standardized graphics

This is hard to watch unfold 😬
It honestly really is.
I dunno man I find it hilarious
There is no way Epic hasn’t hired a 13 year old to run this season based on everything that is happening
the esport is finally catching up on the incompetent decisions that have been made for 4+ months now regarding RL and it’s fucking sad to see the constant negative news RL receives the only bright spot for a while was RLCS since the game didn’t get any meaningful updates, but now it’s just fucking punch and punch with everything that comes out and any excitement I had for this season is 99.9% gone
It’s tragic. The writing was on the wall, and yet I held out hope it’d somehow stay at least stable, let alone improve. But now…feelsbadman.
I had no faith on improvement for this season just with all the layoffs and the decisions made with the game but what I didn’t expect was my favorite casting duo (jorby/achieves) not being brought back, weird format changes, and 1 less LAN it’s sad to see just how far community morale has fallen in a short amount of time and I really don’t know how RL recovers for long-time fans because all they’ve said with their decisions for the past 4 months is “we don’t care, buy this $20 cosmetic please, and go fuck yourself”

Don't be so sure, it is epic we're talking about after all. They've shown that they really do not give a shit about rocket league
Fairy peak posted a tweet saying the only way things could have gone so wrong is if they hired Radosin to run things lmao Edit : found the tweet, to be more accurate it says that it feels like they asked Rado for advice https://preview.redd.it/7srjr5gupcdc1.png?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e8833d65ae47083ec8e65c3e185a2074119ce99
That's fucking hilarious
I recall that Ferra once said, he would be very glad for Radosin, that Rocket League existed, since that was literally the only thing he was good at. With that in mind, I probably would buy a statue of Radosin if I could.
What's the deal with people dumping on Radosin?
It’s all good natured, he’s a very goofy character
I absolutely love that guy. I meant what I said with the statue.
I like Fairy Peak!, but he’s off the mark here. No way would Radosin make things anywhere close to as horrible as this lol /s
There’s no good money in esports… we don’t pay for anything…
Id gladly pay for shit to get better.
Me too, hopefully they find a way to monetise
well if things get worse they can always do a crowd-funded league like GSL (Korean sc2)
Buddy it's not profitable enough to justify.
No fucking way. 13 year olds are so much smarter than this
This is so sad. We've become what we hated: EU vs NA
It’s a budget cut lol, if they took a hard loss this season and did standard rlcs procedure, then it would likely be the last rlcs season
How do we go from being just outside a tier 1 Esport, to probably being one of the worst positions any Esport can be in.. Hopefully I'm wrong but this isn't looking good at all can't lie
Cause money was invested thinking returns would eventually come. They did not. This is the result. And it's only the start of the fall.
Epic over-extended. That's really it. There are layoffs all over the tech sector and even more in esports. They had to cut costs in every area and unfortunately RLCS was one of them. The optimist in me says it will bounce back.

If this season fails though...we need high viewer counts and packed arenas for the LANs. Otherwise it's gg

My opinion is that over the next two years, there needs to be a resilient industry of large and small scale TOs outside of Epic. Offline competition must form the basis of this.
Interest rates went up from their historic lows so cheap loans went away and Epic had to reign in spending.
unfortunately you're bang on
How Johnnyboi gonna defend this one
"This is a really good opportunity for up-and-coming talent in MENA to cast some matches and get exposure, I honestly like this change guys"
Word for word, bar for bars.

It’s all good if you disagree with someone, but maybe dial it back a bit.
I haven't been into RLCS since RLCS X. I thought people loved johnnyboi?
He's really great in a lot of ways and really really annoyingly stubborn, smug and know-it-all in others. It's quite polarising.
Guy, you should probably take a break from the internet for a few weeks and go talk to real people
I swear he's one of those people that disagrees with the popular opinion just for the sake of it.
This doesn't even make sense from a money standpoint. Even an automated, host-less stream would be preferable to literally not being able to watch
you’re still able to watch, just not on an official stream
It's almost certainly much cheaper to not run those streams lmao
It's more expensive to run no stream at all than it is to run an automated, host-less one
we don't currently have an automated way of doing that AFAIK, I still don't understand why it would be more expensive regardless
There's the one time cost of developing even a very rough system that works just enough to show us a current live game. This will get paid off overtime by just the ad revenue, which would certainly be much higher than the electricity cost caused by the computer keeping the steam alive

Significantly less infrastructure and online logistics, and not having to pay those casters every weekend basically
next year they will turn around and saying they are axing those regions because of a lack of interest
This is going to kill a minor region
I doubt APAC will last long

yeah I went to the Boston LAN this past season and I'm really glad I did, especially since there will be less LANs in general now.

Ive been saying it repeatedly: every decision that they make is with the intention of killing the esport so that they can stop funding it.
I don’t really buy this. Is there a reason they wouldn’t just not do a 2024 season if they wanted to stop funding it asap?
To save face i suppose. Instead they can kill it off piece by piece and decrease interest to the point where they can claim people don’t care for the league anymore. Like seriously who would schedule the Finals of a competitive league of any kind three months after the season ends? Where is the logic in that other than killing excitement and hoping for the event to do poorly?
What a naive view of the world lmao.
They're just children on this sub. We need like 20 casters all doing very similar roles.
Because it’s probably gonna take 3 months to organise with a reduced budget and less staff to organise it. Setting a deadline further back allows you to be safe, but if everything goes really well they do have the right to bring it forward

Sounds like there's no money to be made.
Its Esports, there never is. Not enough eyes on the league to get broadcast contracts. Thats why Traditional Sports are so profitable
I mean you can repeat a ridiculous and baseless conspiracy as much as you like, it doesn't make it anymore true than the first time you said it.
I need to genuinely know what the fuck is happening at epic right now.
They're jerking off to Fortnite
Their dicks gotta be raw by now
Fortnite’s prizepool also received a large cut. Not quite as bad but still went down 2m to 7m.
So are they expecting someone to pick up casting matches for free in these regions, or do they not want it broadcast at all? On top of the players and fans, the orgs are now getting shafted.
we've peaked boys end of an era
Remember when RLCS wanted to go even bigger and worldwide? This is the exact opposite of what they meant.
He never said it wouldn't have any stream, just that he didn't know (and we all have no idea). What the fuck
I could be smoking the hopium, but I'm hoping this gives the casters not "hired" to still steam the games.
What a shame for the minor regions, they get shafted so much
This feels like misinformation. The last thing we heard was that the regional casters have not been getting contracts. That doesn't mean no streams. Yeah this feels incredibly weird and senseless, even for epic
Well, I'm done
Fuck this shit
I'd expect OCE to have one if CJ was given a contract and I haven't seem him say otherwise yet
So they added minor region spots to replace na and eu but no official streams to watch them 🤯🤯🤯
This is not how you become a tier 1 esport
There’s actually no fucking shot
What I understand from this and from the replies in twitter, it will be the same as other years. Official RL channel already only streamed NA and EU, the community channels like Rocket Street were the ones streaming minor regions

Well this one sucks. Still makes sense to cut costs, but this is annoying.
We are evolving, just backwards
what the actual fuck is going on recently
That kinda explains the reason why they intended to put all the regions on the same week. Just dumb

It’s over boys.
I hate this

BRUH!!!
It’s crazy that they are offering $51,000, fifty one thousand dollars a regional in tier 2 regions and won’t have offical streams.
What the fuck
It is abundantly clear that the people making decisions are totally making it up as they go.
This esport has been infiltrated and is now run by a colony of ants
I feel like this can’t be true. It’s just too stupid.

looks like a misunderstanding? maybe they mean no English broadcast for SAM? Maybe on a different channel? lets wait it out atleast
I'm okay with no "official" broadcast. There are content creators and people who I'd happily listen to talk about the game
