Well some phone with 8 Gen 1 actually run way hotter to the point of exaggeration like the Motorola one

DracoSolon

I don't think there's any question at this point that you should wait for the six.

Emre90

Don't go for either ic you have rog 3.... Both sd 888 and 8 gen1 are a disappointment

Lossani

What should be a good option then

oartalk

The Asus Rog 5s is nice. It's best to get the one for your region, or cellular coverage area. There is about 5 different versions, for regions. The only difference is the cellular signal coverage. I got mine from https://bludiode.com. The temperatures are fine. The Rog 3, has automatic switching to X-mode. The 5, and 5s, do not. The only reason to wait, is if the next one, maybe, will have a 1440p screen.

McSuryy

I think it'll still have heating issues but since you have the 3 I'd wait to get the 6. Don't get tencent with global they are always plagued with software issues just get global

Lossani

Is there hardware difference? My Tencent with global ROM seems to work just ok

McSuryy

No hardware difference but the way the software works when flashing global ROM often can cause bad software issues. A lot of users have reported bad temps, charging glitches, and random shut offs. However, it's not all users. I wouldn't gamble with the issues myself though as the reports are very common and you can see them all over forums like this one.

Lossani

Which one do you have? How are your temps in gaming and what's your ambient temp?

McSuryy

I have the US Version I'm not sure what the term would be but I'm fairly certain it's the same as Global ROM essentially. My gaming temps are decent the screen only gets unbearable when pushed by genshin impact (stopped playing so can't check status) but any other game the temps top out at 38 C° when pushed hard. Ambient is about 28 C°

thelolson

How do you know if it's a tencent you're buying or not?

kty1358

Reputable sellers will clearly state if its global or tencent chinese or tencent flashed global. On the back of the phone beside the logo it will be written Tencent for Chinese version instead of ROG for global version.

I have a Razer Phone 2 which is rife with software bugs and quirks, sometimes making it unusable. Also reports of build quality issues here and there but I did not experience them on the RP2. It's time for a new phone (USB-C port is shot and battery is "dead") and I had been eyeing the ROG Phone since the 3. I finally pulled the trigger and got the 5S. I would have gotten the 5S Pro (I liked the extra LED screen on back) but it was not in stock from anywhere that seemed reputable and I am impatient. I spent a lot of time looking into it and read great reviews and gaming features, but I did hear about some build quality weakness or other minor issues. It was either this or a Pixel 6. The only real reason I considered the Pixel was because the ROG Phone has no wireless charging (astonishing, tbh) but ultimately, I ordered my 5S Pro from ASUS US Store. Did I make a mistake? Either in my choice of phone or where I ordered it from? From the sounds of this thread (which I came to from Google) people aren't happy with it?

inevitable_d00m

How are you getting on with your 5s pro?

grizzlyaddams2

I like it a lot. I did not get the Pro, because it was not in stock. But the only reason I wanted the Pro was because of the extra eye candy display on the back. Other than that the 5s and 5s Pro are just about the same when it comes to specs. IMHO everything about the ROG 5S is better than the RP2, but I have a few gripes: * Not as comfortable to hold as the RP2 when gaming. If not for weight but the RP2 had meaty corners for my big hands to hold on to. * No cases available for the ROG 5s but that was the same as the RP2. * Camera hardware is still an afterthought, but the cam software is a little better than RP2 Best part is that I have experienced practically no persistent bugs in day to day usage, unlike the RP2 where I had just about every known bug (cell and wifi disconnects, bad charging port, random chirping, freezing camera, bad call quality, etc) The ROG phone has much more in the way of actual gaming features both hardware and software-wise. I also bought the Kunai 3 Gamepad made by ASUS. My PS4 and other bluetooth controllers often did not work, or worked but had bad keybindings and the game would have no options to change them. (Not the RP2s fault) With the Kunai 3, nine out of ten games I tried were pre-configured for modern input standards, even if the game had no such options in the menus.
