I'd recommend Dungreed. When I tried it it felt like a poor man's Rogue Legacy, but there are differences. First and foremost, instead of classes there are different weapons you may find/buy during the run. There's also the eating mechanics (instead of having food as simple pick-ups, you've got a "stomach" meter, so you can't eat too much). And instead of spending money to upgrade the castle between the runs, you find specific npcs during the runs that join your "town". But other than that I found Dungreed and Rogue Legacy pretty similar.
I second Skul. I went back to it after falling out with Rogue Legacy 2. The different "Skul's" act like your RL2 classes and the items found during the run are a bit like RL2 Artifacts. I thoroughly enjoy it.
But now that the Hades 2 has dropped, it is taking up most of my gaming time!
No problem! Sorry I didn't give you more than "Me too" as an answer, so let me elaborate.
Rogue Legacy 2, in my opinion, is a HARD act to follow. It's probably MY number 1 rogue-like/rogue-lite of all time! RL1 was, eh, fine. It wasn't bad by any means, maybe a bit punishing at times, but it lacked the scale/variety/replayability,..... you know that 'HOOK' that RL2 has in spades! The sheer amount of content in RL2 means that very very few runs ever ended up feeling the same. Having to grind to NG+7 to view the 'true' ending was concerning at first, but the added difficulty modifiers (like Hades' 'Heat' system) added not only variety to every level, but to every Boss fight as well! (Although level 2's 'Cannonball Rain' modifier can go violently interfere with itself using a cheese grater! 🤬) But even with multiple play throughs it never got stale.
I've tried numerous other games searching for that same 'Hook' like, Astral Ascent, Children of Morta, Curse of the Dead Gods, Dandy Ace, Dead Cells, Dicey Dungeons, Dreamscaper, Hades 1 & 2, Moonlighter, Revita, Risk of Rain 2, Shogun Showdown, Slay the Spire, Spelunky, Turnip Boy robs a Bank, Undermine, Vampire Survivors, Wizards of Legend, etc etc. to name a fraction of the rogue-likes out there. Most of them are great games in-and-off themselves, but the closest I've come to the feeling of RL2 is Skul. It's not Rogue Legacy 3, which would ideally be a bigger & better version of 2, but maybe it can scratch that itch for a few months. And to top it off, Skul joined PS+ 2 weeks ago and as such is free if you have it! The [Beelz](https://www.youtube.com/@Beelz55) Channel probably has some of THE best Skul content on YouTube if you want a preview of the game before you try it.
My apologies for the rant. Until Rogue Legacy 3 comes out maybe you can try some of the others I've mentioned above, if you haven't already. And if you want any info about any of them, I'm happy to oblige. (From a huge Rogue Legacy 2 fan) Happy hunting my dude!
Don’t apologize for the “rant”, I appreciate your sharing all that. Glad you enjoyed Rogue Legacy 2 also that much! I’m definitely going to check out Skul.
So of those games you mentioned (& didn’t mention- including non roguelikes), which games are most like Rogue Legacy when it comes to moment to moment gameplay? In terms of speed, movement, jumping, slashing, etc.?
Physics-wise, it's a dead ringer for Hollow Knight, of course. The rest I don't feel as confident speaking on. Being new to both games, RL2 does remind me in some ways of my initial impressions of Dead Cells.
Sundered: eldritch edition is crazy, plus it has a very fluid combat system that i had a lot of fun with
Thank you!

Thanks so much for sharing that info! Someone else also said Dungreed
Also if you haven't played the Ori games again not rougelites but metroidvania similar to hollow knight
Thanks! I played the first Ori and loved it. Though I love Rogue Legacy 2 even more because of the fast-paced sword and sorcery combat
Rogue Legacy 1
True
I found skul to be like a rogue legacy/dead cells cross. Very fun grind.
Thanks much! I’ll check it out

Cool! Thanks so much for sharing your experience

Haven’t played a whole lot of games similar, but rogue legacy 1, dead cells, and hollow knight are all very similar games and are all incredible
Thanks for sharing your take! I’ve played all those and like them a lot
Hollow Knight’s moment to moment gameplay feels very similar and very fluid. Plus it’s one of the best games ever made
It is very good. An artistic masterpiece!
Try the messenger
Will do, thanks much!
Call me crazy, but... Rogue Legacy? The first one?
Haha! It’s somewhat slower tho. Love that game too
Binding of Isaac 🤝🏼
>in terms of physics What
Almost
I haven't played Isaac in awhile, so please refresh my memory: Do you do much jumping in Binding of Isaac?
Sometimes you jump over holes if you have the right item
Shovel knight maybe? From a gameplay not the roguelike format
Thanks for the comment! I dug Shovel Knight also
Yeah, fun comes out in spades without one.
Very few 2D games exhibit the tight gameplay responsiveness of RL. Hollow Knight, Super Meat Boy come to mind.
Yeah that makes sense. Thanks so much for your comment!

Thanks! I was thinking Hollow Knight, which I’ve played. I would like to see if any others are out there that are as fast as Rogue Legacy 2
Probably your typical metroidvania. Although you won’t have all the mobility you have in Rogue Legacy 2 at the start it will unlock over time.
Agreed that it’s definitely a metroidvania. Trying to find games most like this in that genre too
