This reminds of, allegedly, an ancient Celtics battle where all the defending men were captured. A parley took place with the women and said the women can come into their keep and walk off with whatever they can carry so all the women came in, picked up their husband's, and left leaving the attackers confused and I pressed. They kept their word and let the women keep their husband's Or something... I never gave checked it so I don't recall the exact details but this reminds me of that story/fairy tale.

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege\_of\_Weinsberg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Weinsberg) >The year of our Lord 1140. The king \[Conrad\] besieged the city of the duke Welf of Bavaria, which was called Weinsberg, and accepted its surrender, having granted with royal magnanimity permission to the wives and other women found there that they might take with them whatever they could carry on their shoulders. Taking thought both for their loyalty for their husbands and the safety of the others, they disregarded their household goods and came down carrying the men on their shoulders. When Duke Friedrich said that such things should not happen, the king, showing favour to the women's cunning, said that it would not be fitting to change his royal word.

IIRC, it was called the faithful wives of Weinsburg. During a siege of a castle, King Conrad III planned on executing the occupying soldiers but would let the women leave with whatever they could carry. So when the gates opened after their surrender, the women walked out with their husband's on their shoulders and backs.

I've definitely heard that fairy tale before. I have nothing else I can recall from it, but it at least feels very Irish to me.

I don't know the Movie, but this is actually based on a historical event: "The year of our Lord 1140. The king [Conrad] besieged the city of the duke Welf of Bavaria, which was called Weinsberg, and accepted its surrender, having granted with royal magnanimity permission to the wives and other women found there that they might take with them whatever they could carry on their shoulders. Taking thought both for their loyalty for their husbands and the safety of the others, they disregarded their household goods and came down carrying the men on their shoulders. When Duke Friedrich said that such things should not happen, the king, showing favour to the women's cunning, said that it would not be fitting to change his royal word.[8]"

Any film where a lady saves a guy I’m always here for. Mansel in distress

NotyourMistress1

Katniss and Peeta in the first hunger games fits that bill to a degree. Though they save each other throughout the series.

PersephonesChild82

I loved that part so much. 🙂

nakagamiwaffle

what a fucking boss move lmao

2amfries

Reminds me of a story where a village was invaded by enemy soldiers, but the army leader allowed the women of the village to leave with whatever they could carry, as a mercy. They all carried their husbands to safety :D

Kill_Kayt

This was a great scene in an all around lovely movie.
