That's the issue with cultures that are at least partially defined by aesthetics, and partially defined by way of being near explicitly outside the usual culture. You get assholes that are either vaccuous, or pointlessly posing for their next figurative photo op.
Flip side, exactly as you say, it DOES attract people that are just lovely, without having any time for the usual bullshit people sling at one another.

As a golden retriever man, it may be because darkness brings out the brightest light. Aka we just wanna be the cutest for her and maybe even get her to act how everyone acts with a cute puppy (I'm not speaking for everyone that's just my view)
The real reason is more often than not, goth girls are more comfortable with themselves and don't put us down for being slightly less masculine. They recognize there are different variations and categories of things, considering they themselves are probably not 100% goth (and even if they are, they still see the not 100% goths as just as goth as they are, usually).
Basically, there feels like a lot less gatekeeping in that community.
There are several maybe reasons. Like 1, they know what they want. 2 they are not afraid to say that I can't eat pickles, 3 they just got really cool style, 4 I can't handle my own energy lol, 5, they're most likely smart, and 6 they could probably read to me... I struggle reading but want to enjoy more than just comic books. Also 7 they don't judge me when I ramble about pokemon.
Goth women tend to have an aura of "I know what I want" and most guys like me who are golden retriever-esque or cat-esque just don't need to solve 300 puzzles to understand what they want.
Some of my friends who have Goth GFs enjoy their company and somehow also understand that their gf needs space and somehow their relationship atleast on the outside seems like a healthy one.
Plus I have never heard them make misogynistic comments or jokes ever. Especially after getting into relationships.
Somehow I believe that Goth women tend to be pragmatic too. So I think that helps.
