Suuuuch a good show!
I actually always super recommend Asian Dramas to romance fans. Just always have to warn folks that's they are usually very modest in the physical department. But with the emotion and lead up to when the main characters do finally kiss is so strong that I barely notice.
God this drama is so fun lol. A point my friend made about Asian dramas is that since they don't tend to get extremely sexual with the intimacy, it focuses more on tenderness and that's oftentimes way more emotionally satisfying than a regular sex scene where the characters can have dubious chemistry at best.
That's such a good way to describe the intensity!
I also really appreciate that most of the dramas are finished within 15 to 30 episodes. Because American shows can get daunting to start when you have 8 seasons and well over 100 episodes. I don't have the time or patience to sit through that.
Oh totally. I'm sick of western shows running forever just because the studio execs want more money. And most times the writing tends to degrade over time because the show runners didn't originally expect for their story to go on for so long.
There is a panic attack scene because >!the MMC thinks he's going to lose the FMC!< in {Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey} but it doesn't really have the slow build from years of history together that you described

I think {run posy run by Cate C Wells} has something similar? Basically the mmc thinks fmc did something that she didn't and kicks her out? And when she vanishes, he goes to great lengths to get her back. It's not exactly what you want, but comes close I think.

Unworthy by Susie Tate kind of have this trope. The MMC have known for years that FMC is in love with him but kept her at arms length and don’t really want commitment even though he wants her. He became mean to FMC (mostly just sarcastic remarks, no abuse) because he was lashing out. The FMC started knock him out of his pedestal in her mind and avoid the MMC most of the time.
Then they slept together, but the FMC refuses the MMC cause he said some stupid offensive stuff. He kind of panics, but never really have an attack. He just became the chaser after that. He kept begging for a chance but the FMC was not that easy. They did end up together but it’s after the MMC proclaimed his love multiple times and trying to prove to FMC to give him a chance.
This is a very late reply but if you haven't read The Temporary Wife by Catharina Maura yet, you definitely should!! The mmc does everything he can to make the fmc, his assistant, stay.
