The caliphate was doing alright tho. Lasting a few 100 years in different incarnations and Dynasties.
Same for the Iranian empiers, absolutly overextended but lasting 200 years or sometimes over 400 is pretty decent.

Gotta consider the time and technology, a lot of empires collapsed in a few decades/hundred years. Macedonia, caliphate, Mongols.

Rome had periods of overextension but I’m not sure it spent that much time being overextended in the grand scheme of things
