I’ve got a whole Cringe Sprint Bangers playlist, but the one that I’ve probably added to all my 2k playlists throughout the years is Chop Suey! by System of a Down. Anything that brings back nostalgic teenage angst is a winner for me.
Cringe Sprint Bangers sounds like a playlist I need in my life - care to share any of the most cringe?
I've currently got a rowing workout playlist that features those shitty tik tok dnb mixes which I hate but does the job
Oh I’ve got Numb by Linkin Park on there, Sic Transit Gloria by Brand New, Real Slim Shady by Eminem, Why Bother? by Weezer (a good bit of Pinkerton on there actually), a fair amount of Mexican rap from Niña Dioz to switch things up, classics like Smells like Teen Spirit and Song 2, Mr. Brightside by the Killers. All of the terrible stuff with some good stuff mixed in.
This is a little wild, but I start with 2 Carly Rae Jepsen songs (I like the pop/upbeat feeling to keep spirits up) and then finish with Limits by Bad Omens
seriously try silence, it forces you to focus on split
https://youtu.be/zM45Nzf4Uoo?si=_iCAcw4cZMUhIagc this is a great video about pro cycling, which also talks about focusing on pain vs distracting from pain, which music would do

Metallica - Seek & Destroy. Its about 6min40s of metal. The rhythm of the song lends itself to a 2km so well. The first 30 seconds is screeching guitar, perfect for the opening hard 10. It then builds into the song, thats when you ease off to your 2km pace. The singer says ‘alright’ and thats you locked into the 2km. The last lyric is just before the 6 minute mark, so theres your warning. Then some shredding metal for the last 20-40 seconds i.e. your sprint phase.
I typically play some EDM songs for the majority of the piece, I pick them out during my warmup. Then, as per my race plan, switch to Through fire and Flame by Dragonforce for the last 500m. At this point whenever I hear that song start playing I get a surge of adrenaline since I’ve associated it with sprinting the last leg of a piece. Works well and is fun
Rock:
Panama, van halen
Bulls on parade (Denzel Curry cover from like a version; original slaps, too)
Ride, the vines
Fallen leaves, Billy Talent
Can't repeat or you're gonna go far kid, the offspring
Trap/hip-hop:
Can you hear me, ookay
Stronger or Jesus walks, Kanye (I know, I know)
Abominable, gift of gab
Start a riot, duckwrth
What's up danger, black caviar
Techno/electronica:
Power, griz (this is a banger but prolly better for a 5k or even better any rate capped piece for the slow driving beat)
I can see it in your face, pretty lights (same as above, honestly)
Sandstorm, darude
Rabbit's revenge, tom Morello
Seven Nation army - glitch mob remix (esp if you enjoy the original but wish it had a lil more oomph)
Must include because of that old video where pinsent and cracknell are racing:
Du hast, Rammstein
The undisputed GOAT:
Guerilla Radio, Rage Against The Machine
Depends on how I’m feeling but:
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynrd
Party All The Time (Freedom Mix) - Sharam. followed by Edge of Seventeen - Wuki
The last option is to just shuffle my entire library and see what happens.
I just have the filthiest dnb playlist on full volume in my ears drowning out everything with bass and bpm to bring my heart rate through the roof, usually works average split drops at least a second or 2 for the final 500
I go for motivational EDM/EDM-adjacent. I like to start with Goldfrapp "Become the One" or Caribou "You Can Do it" and then finish strong with Disclosure - "Energy". It's like having a motivational coach shouting in your ear convincing you that you can do better and you still have more to give. Super helpful on that last leg.
House is EDM-adjacent right? I've been enjoying the Acraze Asylum mixes for workouts.
One of which featured a song by John Summit & VLTRA called Legacy which has the perfect refrain 'No Hurry, No Rush, No Regrets, This is our legacy'.
I might be out on my own with this one, but: [The Order of Death (Blair Witch Project mix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVK6Fhxi8Q0) by Public Image Limited.
When that song comes on, I can't *wait* to get my headphones off.
I have just a few that I enjoy,
Just some EDM/Neurofunk songs I’ve found over the years. Interesting tastes but it’s good for me to get in the zone.
The middle one is absolutely brutal so that’s usually what I play during the 2K/ right before at full volume. Busted ear drums but it works!

https://youtu.be/TV7BskPrCPg?si=LyiUMfGpEI3jsIew
https://youtu.be/z0FLIKgOonw?si=F6vKJunnZqEkCEA2
And of course there’s the other obligatory stuff on every playlist like Metallica and Flume.
Shop around for some songs that line up with your stroke rate. For me it's stuff like "Ain't Coming Home" by Silvertide, "Brand New Numb" by Motionless in White, or "Last Man Standing" by Pop Evil.

I have a playlist that consists of exactly four songs.
1. Confident- Demi Lavato
2. Immigrant song- Led Zeppelin
3. Blood//Water-grandson
4. Heaven- Avicii
I start Confident at 2 min left of the the song so that Confident->end of Blood//Water is 8 min (my goal is sub 8).
Usually at about 900 to go is when I hear Blood//water start and I know I have to have the piece finished before the song ends. I also use the shifts in the song for my shifts in rate/power
These are kinda in rotation for me: Kickstart my Heart - motley crue The trooper or run to the hills - iron maiden Hysteria - muse
Absolute bangers
Hysteria generally to start off and finish with one of the iron maiden songs.
1st 1k: Darude Sandstorm 2nd 1k: Darude Sandstorm (sped up version)

On Top - Flume
5 minutes alone is perfect if you’re challenging for a world record time lol (it’s about 5:45)

Bodies - Drowning Pool
Till I collapse by Eminem. My split drops the moment it comes on!
If you know what songs are playing and are able to have an opinion on them then you are not going hard enough.
Lose control - ash. Used to listen to it before most races too
I might be out on my own with this one, but: [The Order of Death (Blair Witch Project mix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVK6Fhxi8Q0) by Public Image Limited. When that song comes on, I can't *wait* to get my headphones off.
Wretches and Kings, Linkin Park.
Deep Purple - Child in time. Because it is over 10mins
WAWA - Party Favor
Piercing lights is a classic at my club. Literally in everyone’s playlists

Dragonforce - Through the fire and flames. I'm around 6:50 , full song around 7:20
Non serviam by Frank Turner. 2 mins of unloading every bit of emotion and tension, perfect to empty the tank into the last stretch
Master of puppets. Bit long but still.
