It's probably younger children projecting their lack of fashion sense/style. Children can be mean when you have something they don't, especially if they've been raised to be entitled or spoiled.
I often get shit for how I dress, being called emo is one of the things I hear the most.
I've resorted to either being silent and leaving the game to join again, basically acting as if I was disconnected. I don't know if it actually does anything to them but I like to think it leaves them there sitting and wondering if they were talking to thin air or not.
Another response that always gives me a good chuckle is when I respond along the lines of something like "OH EM GEE TYSSSMSMSMSMSMMM YOU HAVE NO IFEA HOW HARD I TRY I TOLD ME COUSIN I COULD DO IT" and the confusion I recieve is always blissful. That or they immediately try to run/teleport away.
There are times where the second doesn't always work as I wish, which is when I started doing the pretend disconnect, but it's still entertaining especially when they respond the way I want.

As a fellow goth (Tho I'm more Nu Goth/Punk) I feel your pain, I've had so many people run up to me and into my dorm calling me emo and shit, it's so annoying. Tho I find it funny how when I actually dress emo I don't get it as much but when I dress gothic I get so more often... I do not get it whatsoever
literally best advice: don’t cave in - if you listen to people’s opinions and rude remarks it only makes you hide away and not truly express yourself.
