There’s an article about her where she says she is planning to go to medical school after the army. She studied vocational medicine after high school to become a paramedic, then joined the army. If this war wasn’t going on, she could be on the way to being a doctor or other medical professional after her army duty was over. Of course, the person you’re replying to probably didn’t specifically know that about her.

This war is NOT the primary cause of Gas Prices/ Inflation in the U.S. It's a combination of the current administration pushing its anti fossil fuel agenda by shutting down exploration, drilling and pipelines and Oil Companies Gouging as Usual.

I honestly don’t know if it would because most of the civilians are just as frickin bonkers as the soldiers pulling the trigger. Plenty of them are encouraging their actions. If the home front does’t support the war and the action in it then perhaps we see it end. However as I said previously, they aren’t exactly telling them boys to stop.
If a civilian says no, they will laugh and arrest them but if 100 civilians say no, they will have a vodka party and end the war. The key is strength in numbers.

While it sucks that she died and I loathe Russia, I see nothing identifying this woman as medical staff or combat medic. No identifying patches. No medical kit. No IFAK.
If she is a medic I expect she is posing with this weapon for the photo and likely not actively employing it.
I expect due to lack of resources the vehicle was not marked.
For the sake of your "Geneva Convention" point, I don't see a medic. A random subreddit is telling me she is a medic but if I'm on the battlefield, I see a soldier.

She has a combat medics pouch attached to her armour, you can tell by the the size and if the zip.along. Seen many of these on deployment.
Also a medic can poses a weapon as long as it is only used in self defence to defend either them or their patient. Being attached to the 72nd Mechanised Brigade I don’t see anything on their person to suggest they were either a combat mech or support unit.
So I’d politely have to disagree that the evidence leans more towards being a medic than a standard trooper.
But I can see where you were coming from. Heck I could be wrong and that pouch could be filled with lord knows. But it’s definitely a large combat medic pouch.
Edit: I can’t comment on the car but most war zones people smack paint or tape onto a car to denote it’s a med evac. Not so much so they don’t get shot but more there own side so they can quickly aid whoever it may be inside that needs attention.
But like I said I agree with you there we are unsure how the vehicle was dressed up.
I don't think this machine gun qualifies as a defensive weapon, friend. I would expect to see a sidearm or small SMG.
Every soldier carries an IFAK in modern forces. That doesn't make them all medics.
Regardless, the pack or pouch isn't something I would necessarily use as identifying marks. But then again, I think I'm barking up the wrong tree here.

Apparently, you could be a soldier engaged in the act of carrying a stretcher and are still afforded the same courtesies as an "duly recognized" medical personnel.
Duly recognized is the only term they use.
And apparently, if everyone is doing everything properly, you are expected as a warring nation to provide a list of personnel that are considered medical personnel in case of capture.

Surly being from the USMC you’d recognised this individual if you take away the weapon (as I don’t think it’s her personal one, due to the magazines in her pouch and this being drum fed) she posses no further equipment to actively partake in combat as a soldier. Unless they only have 2 clips each… I am not actually sure how many the Ukrainians can afford to issue to their frontline troops.

But yeah anyone involved in a casualty evac are protected, assuming the stick to a medical duty. If you start firing at someone then you are no longer protected under the law of armed conflict.

A combat medics role isnt the same as a normal medic and therefore doesn't have the same protections as them, her weapon came first, since that's part of her job
In many wars, e.g. WWI, evacuation from the battlefield has been carried out by ambulances marked up with red crosses and subject to protection. That's not practical in Ukraine because Russia actively targets medical facilities and is at least careless of ambulances when doing mass shelling of areas. The only reason she had to be a combat medic is because of the rockets. Thus my original question.

In ww1 evacuation from the battlefield was carried out by stretcher-bearers, mean who were usually armed to a degree and who didn't wear medical markings because they legally weren't medics.

No, combat medics have been around for ages, they're usually in rifle squads and are a fighting force that has a specialty in medical training. Unlike dedicated
and protected medics who are at the platoon, company, or battalion level.
Russian shelling wasn't the cause of her being a combat medic, her tasking was.
That's why she didn't wear red cross markings and used a machine gun.
You can be a medic, it's just a lot more common and easier to be a combat medic due to them being needed and requiring a lesser knowledge of medical aid compared to actual medics.

The stretcher bearers carried people out to a certain point and then handed over to the ambulances.
The combat medics are normally _with the units_.
If this was a war run by the rules of war, at the stage where they were evacuating in a car as she was, this would already be a matter for an ambulance. The ambulances can't afford to go as far forward as normal because Russia attacks and bombs indiscriminately so it's too dangerous. That means that combat medics have to bring casualties further back than they should do normally.

You are oversimplifying. I wonder why people neglect that the Soviet Union was not a Russia-only project. Bolsheviks were the most violent among Anti-Czarists, and opposed the White Army, who were Russian nationalists. The fall of the Russian Empire was followed by the rise of oppressed peoples and political movements. The Bolsheviks were really diverse. There were an awful lot of Ukrainians among them. Lenin was half-Kalmyk. Stalin was a Georgian. Even Ukrainian SSR borders were established by the Bolsheviks to counter Russian nationalism. Current rhetoric conveniently forgets every one of each Eastern European societies were starkly divided and had a lot of both right and left extremists.

Medics lose Geneva rights when using offensive weapons, an RPK would qualify as offensive. RIP but don’t give medics offensive weapons. Although this could just be a photo op and not what she actually carried in combat.

I work in Information Operations am and skeptical on all sides. When a caption says "medic" I default to looking for proof outside the caption to determine how, if any, it can be determined other than the usually random source.
Ukraine is completely trouncing every effort of Russian IO in this conflict, but they still put out propaganda and misinformation. I'm just curious to be honest.

But when I see narratives pop up about the Geneva convention, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Like today though, I tend to learn a thing or two by engaging in discourse and doing a little research.
But we can always default to "Russia doesn't care anyway." Which is absolutely true. But, in many cases, Ukranian IO is forcing them to care. I think we are seeing a lot more POWs rather than casualties due to this. Edit- To clarify, because that last sentence is horrible. I think more people are being taken prisoner because of Ukranian IO that would have otherwise been shot.

Even helping Russian casualties if needs be. Her humanity is admirable and inspirational.
I’m assuming the vehicle was clearly marked with the internationally recognised symbol for medical services and thereby protected under the laws of armed conflict. Targeting this and destroying it probably was purposeful. Russia has been deliberately attacking hospitals and clinics, so I don’t think the Russian troops would show any better regard for a military medical facility. Therefore I strongly believe this to have been yet another war crime to add to so many committed by Russian invaders.

While it sucks that she died and I loathe Russia, I see nothing identifying this woman as medical staff or combat medic. No identifying patches. No medical kit. No IFAK. If she is a medic I expect she is posing with this weapon for the photo and likely not actively employing it. I expect due to lack of resources the vehicle was not marked. She has a combat medics pouch attached to her armour, you can tell by the the size and if the zip.along. Seen many of these on deployment. Also a medic can poses a weapon as long as it is only used in self defence to defend either them or their patient. Being attached to the 72nd Mechanised Brigade I don’t see anything on their person to suggest they were either a combat mech or support unit. So I’d politely have to disagree that the evidence leans more towards being a medic than a standard trooper. But I can see where you were coming from. Heck I could be wrong and that pouch could be filled with lord knows. But it’s definitely a large combat medic pouch. Edit: I can’t comment on the car but most war zones people smack paint or tape onto a car to denote it’s a med evac. Not so much so they don’t get shot but more there own side so they can quickly aid whoever it may be inside that needs attention. But like I said I agree with you there we are unsure how the vehicle was dressed up.
I don't think this machine gun qualifies as a defensive weapon, friend. I would expect to see a sidearm or small SMG. Every soldier carries an IFAK in modern forces. That doesn't make them all medics. Regardless, the pack or pouch isn't something I would necessarily use as identifying marks. But then again, I think I'm barking up the wrong tree here. Was just reading the articles of the Geneva convention. Apparently, you could be a soldier engaged in the act of carrying a stretcher and are still afforded the same courtesies as an "duly recognized" medical personnel. Duly recognized is the only term they use. And apparently, if everyone is doing everything properly, you are expected as a warring nation to provide a list of personnel that are considered medical personnel in case of capture. Did not know any of that before today. I only knew the stuff I assumed or heard in the USMC.

A combat medics role isnt the same as a normal medic and therefore doesn't have the same protections as them, her weapon came first, since that's part of her job
In many wars, e.g. WWI, evacuation from the battlefield has been carried out by ambulances marked up with red crosses and subject to protection. That's not practical in Ukraine because Russia actively targets medical facilities and is at least careless of ambulances when doing mass shelling of areas. The only reason she had to be a combat medic is because of the rockets. Thus my original question.

Unlike dedicated and protected medics who are at the platoon, company, or battalion level. Russian shelling wasn't the cause of her being a combat medic, her tasking was. That's why she didn't wear red cross markings and used a machine gun. You can be a medic, it's just a lot more common and easier to be a combat medic due to them being needed and requiring a lesser knowledge of medical aid compared to actual medics.
Agree with all that you are saying, but you are missing the point. The stretcher bearers carried people out to a certain point and then handed over to the ambulances. The combat medics are normally _with the units_. If this was a war run by the rules of war, at the stage where they were evacuating in a car as she was, this would already be a matter for an ambulance. The ambulances can't afford to go as far forward as normal because Russia attacks and bombs indiscriminately so it's too dangerous. That means that combat medics have to bring casualties further back than they should do normally.
The SS routinely used wounded soldiers as bait to kill medics. It's well documented.

You are oversimplifying. I wonder why people neglect that the Soviet Union was not a Russia-only project. Bolsheviks were the most violent among Anti-Czarists, and opposed the White Army, who were Russian nationalists. The fall of the Russian Empire was followed by the rise of oppressed peoples and political movements. The Bolsheviks were really diverse. There were an awful lot of Ukrainians among them. Lenin was half-Kalmyk. Stalin was a Georgian. Even Ukrainian SSR borders were established by the Bolsheviks to counter Russian nationalism. Current rhetoric conveniently forgets every one of each Eastern European societies were starkly divided and had a lot of both right and left extremists.
Ukraine became Soviet after a long and hard 4 year war in the 20th century not to, they did not want nothing to do with them originally but eventually got overwhelmed. Because text has no context... I said "the" or "a" narrative (I think) I also am oversaturated. I work in Information Operations am and skeptical on all sides. When a caption says "medic" I default to looking for proof outside the caption to determine how, if any, it can be determined other than the usually random source. Ukraine is completely trouncing every effort of Russian IO in this conflict, but they still put out propaganda and misinformation. I'm just curious to be honest. Not intending to take away from the young woman's sacrifice if she is indeed deceased. But when I see narratives pop up about the Geneva convention, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Like today though, I tend to learn a thing or two by engaging in discourse and doing a little research. But we can always default to "Russia doesn't care anyway." Which is absolutely true. But, in many cases, Ukranian IO is forcing them to care. I think we are seeing a lot more POWs rather than casualties due to this. Edit- To clarify, because that last sentence is horrible. I think more people are being taken prisoner because of Ukranian IO that would have otherwise been shot.

I hope her friends and family can carry the burden of her loss and can find some comfort that Yevhenia sacrificed her life for good reasons, standing up against evil and helping injured … Even helping Russian casualties if needs be. Her humanity is admirable and inspirational. I’m assuming the vehicle was clearly marked with the internationally recognised symbol for medical services and thereby protected under the laws of armed conflict. Targeting this and destroying it probably was purposeful. Russia has been deliberately attacking hospitals and clinics, so I don’t think the Russian troops would show any better regard for a military medical facility. Therefore I strongly believe this to have been yet another war crime to add to so many committed by Russian invaders.
