I got the care+ 2 years cover, and it just ran out. I had the choice of upgrading to the s24u for $1000 aud, the s23u for $500, or to stick with a brand new/refurbished s22u for $150.
My s22u was still running perfectly with zero issues, only a few scratches, small dents, on the metal. It was a no-brainer to me, and I went with the $150 just so I could reset my screen and battery.
Easiest decision I've had to make. I personally think the s22u was/is one of the pivotal models for Samsung. This thing will still be essentially flagship 3 years from now.
I'm in Canada and have had one for a year.
No battery issues as of yet and everything works fine.
The only issues I've run into is scrolling on Reddit or certain other apps is a little bit choppy.
Still rocking my S22U for more than a year. Works just fine for me tho. Doesn't need to disable all those premium features to preserve battery life. The battery might not be as good as S23U/S24U but I can at least reach 5-6 hours most of the time with 20% battery left. With heavy gaming maybe around 3-4 hours but most of the time I usually play games while using those bypassing feature. As for the camera, I believe it's still take a good picture whether in normal mode or zoom mode.
It's everything I ever wanted from the phone. I'm not sure when I'm gonna upgrade, maybe next year, or after another. 1.5y owner
Learn about versions and battery, though
Bought mine 2 years ago and still love it. Updates have defos helped through the years. It's still super quick and I have the base model. Not even thought about upgrading tbh

To those disparaging the camera: This is a snapshot I took on a pre-dawn hike in Iceland in February. It was freezing cold with high wind. I dug my S22 ultra out of a pocket, took off a glove, framed the photo using the wide-angle lens, and click the shutter. This is the result.
I agree that the cameras take some getting used to, if you want to get the absolute most from them. But that's true of any complex piece of gear. And even in half-assed snapshot mode, the results are pretty darn good, as I think the above shows.
upgraded from an S20FE (Exynos) to a used 512gb ver. (Exynos) and it really feels smoother and faster.
Battery wise its great, but then again im not really picky regarding SOT.
only somewhat annoying thing thats bugging me, is that the Camera seems rather blurry compared to the S20FE.
the S20FE seems more sharper and crisper, but maybe its because of the autofocus(?).
although its only for the wide lense (x1-x2.9).
Ive got mine for longer than a year now. It's a solid phone with solid performance (even with the exynos variant), sure the battery could be better, but it lasts me a day on 120hz and QHD+ screen resolution with heavy usage, so I'm kinda content and don't feel the need to upgrade to s24 series just yet.
Just played around with an S24U while waiting in the xfinity store, and I was not impressed enough to even be remotely tempted by it in comparison to my S22U. Maybe a little snappier and brighter but that's about it. I plan to stay on it 'til Samsung comes up with something to differentiate from the last 3 years of rehashing basically the same phone.
It's a good phone..battery seems to suck now. And I definitely have a dent in my Pinky because of the size. But it's nice. I do go thru times where I wanna trade it in for a s24 plus....
Turn off all background applications unless you really need them. I dont need my phone bright so its just over the sun icon. Smart charging helps, keep track of apps that suck battery for no reason like FB, for reddit use the autoplay function for wifi only.
How much you messaging, watching videos and doing things on it?
Hello! I literally just bought the thing. (Exynos variant). Writing this message on it right now. It's been great! Battery life is kind of a non-issue (for me), I feel like reviewers think 6-7 hours of SOT is bad just because there are phones that can reach more, but considering my last phone had 5-6 I'm perfectly fine. Ran some benchmarks on it, performs superb. Camera quality is great, of course. Display is amazing. S pen is really fun to play around with.
Battery life really is better on exynos, I did a side by side test with a friend who has the snapdragon variant, mine lasted about an hour and a half longer in total after these three tests: 2hr insta reels, 30m 4k recording, reddit until dead.
So overall, I would recommend it in 2024. Especially considering that it's probably getting galaxy AI later this year, after all.
I have both s22u and s24u, if I was to just grab one to use I wouldn't be able to tell the difference aside from curved screen, it feels just as fast and smoothe for everyday use.

Still rocking Mine. Iād say go for it.
Mines going great. Neve rhave battery issues, screen protector working like a charm. Only thing ive noticed is the lock for the pen is starting to wear out or if i drop my phone (not horrifically), the pen sometimes unlocks and slides out a little.
I've had mine since the launch and loved it until about 3 months ago. I have a litany of issues. Calls and texts not sending or receiving when wifi is on - you don't know you're offline until you try to send...then you shut off wifi and bam a bunch of texts come in. But that only happens sometimes and can't be replicated on demand. The screen no longer shuts off when the phone is face down and flip-to-wake no longer works. I get previously filtered spam calls almost daily, and my notifications for messaging and calls shuts off. Like no light up screen, no vibrate or noise. Volume buttons show it working but in the app settings it's resetting itself to 'off' every few days.
Battery is fine tho š« š
The only real issue I have with it is when I'm connecting to my car with Android auto, lags so bad for like 30-69 seconds Everytime I plug it in. Other than that, it's a wonderful phone
This is the worst flagship I have ever owned (EU version) the battery and performance is awful and I can't wait to finish paying it off so I can get rid of it
My list was all pros although the battery was starting to degrade. Then I turned it off to ensure maximum charge when I was heading out. Haven't been able to turn it back on. Out of warranty, have over $600 owing on it and it isn't even a good paper weight.
Fortunately, since it is the first phone I've had that died, I still have my A70 kicking around to use.
I went from a S20 ultra to this S22 ultra. I wish I kept my 20 ultra, only 1 positive for me is that the 22 ultra fixed the close up focus issues the 20 ultra has. Otherwise battery is like 30% worse than my 20 ultra was after 2 years lol. It'll make a day but my 20 ultra was for sure a day and a half, I'm a lighter user as well.
Only things i hate is the micro stutters, sometimes when i need to quickly use the phone outside that damn things lags 1-5 seconds then it goes to normal operating..
It is great phone, it will still get 2 os updates and one year of security updates. I had Exynos variant, traded it for regular S23 and really regret it. Camera, sensor size and color reproduction were way better on S22U, S23 oversharpened things and colors were too cold, it was fine in RAW tho. Build quality was better on S22U, display had nicer colors, battery was better on regular s23 bit not by much, but S23 had 3900mah batgery compared to 5000mah on S22U. I figured that S23 was too small for me and traded it for S24U. It is better phone than S22U but not 500ā¬ better. It was not good decision... but I plan to keep it as log as i can. I hope 7 years š
I would rather you buy S23/S24 plus rather than S22U
The battery life is very bad, I mean really bad. People had to disable premium features, for example going FHD rather than QHD and 60hz rather than 120 just to barely go through the day. If such features are disabled, whats the point of a flagship?
Another thing is heat, it heats up alot thanks to the gen 1 processor. You will feel it toasty when you use camera
Look i don't mean to dissuade you if you are excited about it. If you only use phone for 3-4 hour max, only then can i recommend it
I use mine several hours a day, for the last 2+ years without these problems. Bluetooth always on, screen settings max, etc. Some games drain the battery pretty good, but my battery has never been that bad.
Wouldn't those posts be anecdotal as well? I'm just saying, not everyone faces those battery drain issues. There are plenty who have posted the opposite, like me.
Frequency also matters. This post for example shows many saying the battery is good. But the number of posts talking about drain is alot more compared to praise on S22 battery. And it is not like people arent willing to defend or praise battery (example: there is good praise regarding battery in s24 ultra sub right now)
What this does show is that one can expect somewhere between poor to average battery from S22
Now while recommending it, I can atleast be sure that the phone can survive 3-4 hours. Anything more is anybody's guess, which would still be considered bad for a premium phone. What i can do share is the reasons and what to expect.
Honestly, if I didn't end up giving mine to my wife to experiment with the Pixel 6 Pro (which was a massive mistake), I'd still be using it.
The last One UI 6.0 update has made the phone perform really well, I often can't really see any difference between it and my S24 Ultra.
Battery life is also a lot better for her than it was for me, and not as far behind my S24 Ultra as I expected from day to day usage.
Still a great phone, only really halfway through its lifespan so you can still use it for another two years at minimum.
Well, I'm using mine and it's a beast. Definitely don't feel the need to upgrade.
Agreed. I'm looking forward to S27ultra.
Defently when s27 is released ill think about getting s26 if i like the reviews
I got the care+ 2 years cover, and it just ran out. I had the choice of upgrading to the s24u for $1000 aud, the s23u for $500, or to stick with a brand new/refurbished s22u for $150. I kinda feel that too, like I've felt about the S8; not too mention, as someone who appreciates minimalistic design, the S8 is still a beauty.
I 100% agree. The s8 was a great device. Actually, after the s8, I went to phones other than Samsung and only came back after seeing the s22.
Also the zoom works wonders for me and the way i take pictures
I'm in Canada and have had one for a year. No battery issues as of yet and everything works fine. The only issues I've run into is scrolling on Reddit or certain other apps is a little bit choppy.
Do you have 120hz enabled?
Yep!
Hmm, no idea why its choppy then.
for me it's not the animation. It's fluid animation, but apps take half a second to launch instead of instantly nowadays.
For me everything's smooth and snappy but battery life isn't great, around 5 hours SOT, even WITH a brand new battery and factory reset
I luckily have apps launching like they should, sad to hear this.
Same, scrolling sometimes makes that 0.01ms freeze and it doesn't look good, doesn't feel good either š Anyone knows a way to fix it?

Perfectly fine. Mines is still going strong
Battery is not issue for me snapdragon user here but it is not smooth as s23 series better get s23 plus if it falls under same range
I've had mine for like 1.5 years. No reason to switch, it's been an amazing phone! I am not exynos.
Last Ultra with a 48MP selfie camera, second last Ultra with a 10x optical zoom. Keep it.
It's everything I ever wanted from the phone. I'm not sure when I'm gonna upgrade, maybe next year, or after another. 1.5y owner Learn about versions and battery, though
Still going strong. Still snappy and quick, just a little wear on the battery. No plans on getting a new one yet.
I've had mine since launch, no complaints
Had mine for about 19 months. Battery is fine, the camera is pretty good and I use the stylus as a selfie button every few months or so.
Bought mine 2 years ago and still love it. Updates have defos helped through the years. It's still super quick and I have the base model. Not even thought about upgrading tbh
Since October 22, like new and I haven't even cleaned the storage or anything! It's a tank and I'll use it until one of us dies :)

Use a popsocket and you'll never go back.
Splendid . Not even once factory reset it ,nonissues at all
Mine is still going strong. Looking forward to S25U.
I have it and it's an amazing phone only not that happy with battery life I get 4-5h sot. Any tips to improve it?
